Electrocution

Ben woke up to lights shining in his face, blinding him. As his surroundings faded in, a face started forming in the corner of his vision.

Staring at him from outside of the tube he had woken up in was Miles Warren.

“Welcome back to the land of the living.”

Ben shivered at his voice. No matter how many times he heard that scratchy drawl, it always made his heart bang at the walls of its confinement. His chest hurt. Hell, his whole body ached. Being there, under those bright lights… it was torture. Especially from the lack of a shirt. Why was it that all the clones of him (that he luckily couldn’t see, since he would probably vomit) had pants, but not a shirt? He felt uncomfortably exposed. He tried to break the glass of this tank, but no luck. He almost screamed in frustration. He was back in the lab, the worst place he had ever experienced, mind flooded with memories he’d tried his best to repress. He wished he was anywhere but here. Hell, he’d love to be fighting Kaine! He kind of missed having his big brother throw him through entire brick walls.

“This is all for science, you know.” Warren placed a hand on the glass, causing Ben to back away like a scared animal.

Animal. That was the million dollar word. He felt like an animal in a zoo. Stuck in unnatural conditions. This was exactly what Kaine was always scared of, he remembered. Because, at the end of the day, they belonged to their creator.

And that was the scariest thought of all.

Warren’s creepy voice jolted him back out of his thoughts. “So how are we feeling, Benny?”

Ben shivered. “Let- let me go.”

“Do you know what I’ve always wanted to know?” Warren mused, completely ignoring him. “How much electricity a human body can take. Luckily, I have the perfect subject…”

STOP THESE GAMES!! Ben wanted to scream at him. All he did was try to push himself further into the glass wall behind him.

A small metal rod poked through a tiny hole in the glass that Ben hadn’t even noticed. Warren maneuvered it until it was against Ben’s arm. Ben tried to move away, but the tank was tiny. There wasn’t anything he could do. He tried punching next to the small hole.

CRACK!

A tiny bit of glass fell off. He punched it a couple more times, but only got a small crack before Warren decided to hurry it up and turn on the current.

Ben swore he saw the whole galaxy when he shut his eyes in pain. He smelled burning flesh, obviously, and a painful tingly sensation shot from his wrist to his fingers and shoulder, then to his chest, other arm, both legs, and every toe. He heard sizzling. He actually screamed in pain this time.

Then everything went dark and he embraced death like an old friend.
