Wait… LOVE?!
“Rui~ I think I’m in love!!”
“You what.” There were many things Rui was expecting to hear upon entering the rooftop, most of them ending up in getting a lecture from Mizuki about not waking them up and leaving them here, but come one who were they to wake Mizuki up when they looked so peaceful ( and definitely needed the sleep ). This scenario was certainly not what they were expecting.
Rui opened their mouth to explain his perfected excuse as to why he didn’t wake them up when he finally processed what Mizuki had just said.
“WAIT. WHAT?! YOU. MIZUKI AKIYAMA. ARE IN LOVE????” Rui said, their mouth widening by the word. Rui wondered what the fuck happened on the school rooftop when he was at home. Who was even up there at that time of night? Did they finally lose it and fall in love with a cute bird or something? oh. night classes.
“Took you long enough~” Mizuki said in a teasing manner as if they hadn’t forgotten night classes existed a few hours earlier.
“Well sorry for forgetting that there are mad people who chose to go to school at night” They shivered at the thought of having to go to school in the middle of the night. Never. Nope! Never in their life would Rui choose to do school hours in his precious inventing time.
“Anyways! Her name is Ena and-“ Rui cut them off before Mizuki could finish their rant about this cute girl they met
“Hmm~? First name basis already?” Rui smirked, knowing how flustered Mizuki would get. As if on cue, Mizuki’s face went bright red as they tried to hide their face in their hands
“Oh! Uh! Yeah?!” Mizuki stuttered, all the awkward memories of a few hours prior coming to the front of their memory. Mizuki remembered the encounter with Ena and how pretty her hair was, shining in the moonlig-
“Hello? Earth to Mizuki~! Are you still with us?” Rui said waving their hand infront of Mizuki’s face. It seems they were hearing that phrase a lot in the past few hours, maybe they just need to stop zoning out. Yeah probably that.
“Oh shit yeah, sorry Rui.” Damn. Rui thought, Mizuki must really be head over heels for them to be acting this quiet. Normally they would’ve have sent a teasing remark or two back by now.
“Speaking of this ‘Ena’ did you get her last name? I might know her.” Oh yeah! That’s right Rui apparently has some weird connection with Ena’s brother, Akito. They really need to bring that up to him and force him to stop keeping secrets from them. They were friends after all? Mizuki made sure to watch Ruis reaction very carefully as they told him.
“Oh yeah I keep forgetting you know practically everyone. Her last name is Shinonome” Mizuki said practically staring into Rui’s soul.
“Hmm I guess you’re right… I do know practically everyone.. for good or bad reasons.” They mumbled the last part, trailing off and just staring into the distance with a weird look in their eye.
“Yo. Rui, you good?” Mizuki asked, genuinely concerned for their purple haired friend.
“Oh yeah… sorry Mizuki I just got a little side tracked. Yeah I do know her, or atleast somewhat. I know her brother Akito Shinonome.” Rui said as they looked to the ground, a slight blush dusting over his cheeks. Akito was always a mystery to Rui. They never knew if they could call Akito a friend or an enemy. Most of the time Akito wouldn’t even look in the same direction as Rui, let alone speak to him, and yet Rui found himself entranced by the younger male. Nobody knows why, not even Rui themself.
Mizuki watched as Rui got lost in thought, presumably thinking about this Akito guy due to the little blush on his cheeks. How come Mizuki never knew of him before now, why did Rui never tell them?
“So about this Akito guy… You like him?” Mizuki said, blankly staring at Rui whilst he became a flustered mess.
“A-Akito? N-no way… he would never like someone like me, even if I tried my hardest he would barely even acknowledge my existence as more then just a weirdo.. he wouldn’t talk to me even if he was forced..” Rui laughed trailing off.
Rui sighed as he moved to sit down.
“Hah… he barely even looks in the same direction as me.. I’m an idiot for thinking I’ll ever have a chance..” Rui started to trail off, his words getting quieter and quieter. His gaze was focused on one particular tile of the roof, trying to keep them from crying. Mizuki noticed this and sat down next to Rui. Rui was never really a fan of physical contact so Mizuki thought it would be bust to just be there for them. The two of them sat there in silence for around thirty minutes before Rui spoke again.
“A-anyways.. enough about me and my shitty love life, what about you and Ena eh~?” Mizuki stared back at Rui in pure shock, clearly not expecting a question like this so suddenly their face goes bright red and Rui simply giggles at this.
“I’m gonna need all the details of that night. Even the embarrassing ones!” He giggled through his words, watching Mizuki’a facial expressions was enough to cheer him up any day.
“A-are you sure you want to know everything?”
Mizuki nervously asked, not wanting to share all of the details necessarily…
“Everything.” Rui stated straight into their eyes and they just couldn’t resist their best friends gaze.

Rui burst into a fit of laughter, tears forming at the edge of their eyes from laughing too much.
“N-No way she said that!!” Rui said, practically on the floor, crying of laughter. Barely able to form a sentence without laughing they just stared at Mizuki and started laughing again.
“I would shout at you for leaving me there but in all honesty I have to thank you.” Mizuki shrugged, Rui still fucking dying of laughter.
“You’re welcome… Mizu~” Rui once again fell on to the ground, finding this whole situation absolutely hilarious. Mizuki on the other hand went beet red at the nickname.
“oh my god I’m never living this down am I…”
“Never~” Rui said, finally calming down, his normal cat-like grin back in place. Mizuki accepted their date with a sigh, this was never going to be forgotten was it…
Before Mizuki could open their mouth again the lunch bell rung indicating the start of afternoon classes.
“Well… as much as I would like to stay here all day and ready you, I probably have to go to class as my attendance is not looking good at the moment…” Rui giggles softly before heading towards the door.
“Oh before I go, Mizuki. Try not to fall asleep quite so often, you look like shit !” :3
“YOU-“
The door slammed shut before Mizuki could finish their sentence. That little fucker. He wasn’t wrong though Mizuki did look like they had just crawled through shit, but Rui didn’t deserve the pleasure of being right. The asshole.

Rui ran away before Mizuki could say another word. They headed down the stairs to where his class was, lost in thought (probably about mizuki) he didn’t realise the person in front of him until they crashed straight into each other.
“Ow shit…”
“Fuck I’m sorry let me help you up…” Holy shit no fucking way. Was this his lucky day aswell? THE Akito Shinonome was offering to help him up. He didn’t even mind the stares from random people at that point, Akito shinonome was offering him help. Guess people really can change overnight…
“Oh it’s you.” nevermind.
