Note
Stories that incorporate realistic military elements into them have always interested me. This idea came to fruition after I discovered the anime/light novel series called ‘86 Eighty-Six’, which is essentially hyper-realistic mech warfare. For some reason, I could really imagine the Spider-Verse characters in this world and the idea stewed for a while, until I eventually pitched it to ‘ED’ who you’ll see making small comments throughout. They thought it might work and with the creative juices flowing, I finished the project in approximately three weeks. So, here is the Spider-Verse version of Asato Asato’s modern, niche masterpiece, 86.‘86 Eighty-Six’ was originally written as a light novel by Asato Asato, before being adapted into an anime by A-1 Pictures and directed by Toshimasa Ishii. In this project, I have blended the plot and scene structure from both the light novel and anime, adapting and rewriting where necessary to create an original light novel-style work. While the narrative framework and certain worldbuilding elements remain faithful to the source material to preserve the author's original vision, approximately 95% of the text, including dialogue and descriptions, is my own original creation. The first 14 chapters of this project cover Part One (Cour 1) of 86 Eighty-Six.And before you ask—yes, 86 Eighty-Six is my favorite anime, and it deserved way more recognition than it received. :)

Part One Afterword

G’day everyone, Tech here!

Thank you so much for reading Cour 1 (Part one) of Spearhead. If you’ve made it this far, you’re an absolute legend! This project was a massive undertaking and only the second time I’ve attempted writing something this large. I actually started another Gwiles project before this, although I may or may not have abandoned it to write Spearhead. I just fell in love with 86 and the light novels and just couldn’t get this crazy idea out of my head. Yes, this is basically a roundabout way of me trying to convince more people to watch 86. You got me. It’s a niche masterpiece that didn’t get the recognition it deserves, so… go watch the show!

Before wrapping up, I have a few acknowledgments to make for everyone involved in Cour 1, so here goes:

To Asato Asato: Thank you for creating the incredible 86 light novels. The worldbuilding, intricate storytelling, and attention to detail are nothing short of masterful. I hope you don’t mind my adaptation and alterations. Hopefully I stayed true to your vision. Cheers!

To Toshimasa Ishii: Thank you for bringing 86 to life with your stunning anime adaptation. It’s one of those rare shows that gets better with every rewatch as you notice more details. I’m begging you for another season, and I hope my work did justice to the world you helped create.

To ED: Thanks for proofreading and putting up with my chaotic ideas and work ethic. This project wouldn’t be the same without your input. Apologies for dragging you down another rabbit hole, but I’m glad I convinced you to give it a shot!

To Chai: Thanks for once again educating me on Indian culture, cuisine, and language. You saved me from getting absolutely flamed in the comments. Though you still owe me a full proofread. So yeah, you still suck, and I hope you die in a fire. Fuck you. 😊

To Aria: Your help with the synopsis, tags, content warnings and other small, technical stuff was invaluable. The fic is far more polished, presentable and accessible because of your advice. I’ll definitely be applying what I’ve learned here to future projects (if there are any!).

To clarify and avoid confusion, I’m going to quickly remind everyone that Chapter 14 is an epilogue and provide a bit of an explanation. This fic currently covers Cour 1 of 86 Season 1 (the first 11 episodes), so sorry about the cliffhanger ending. I ultimately decided to not adapt the entire show in one go because it was just a huge amount of work. Hopefully, the epilogue makes up for it a bit, and if you’re detail-oriented, you might spot some hints about what’s next.

As for a sequel, I do have preliminary plans, but I wouldn’t expect it any time soon. I have some issues with Cour 2 of 86, such as pacing, dialogue, Frederica and uneven character focus. So, if I were to write a sequel, I’d spend a lot more time reworking, cutting and adding to it, which would be a huge undertaking that I’m uncertain I could commit to. Plus, with university starting, my free time is about to take a massive hit—so no promises.

In the meantime, if you enjoyed Spearhead and hate cliffhangers, go watch 86! It’s 23 episodes and available subbed and dubbed on HiAnime (I can drop a link in the comments if needed). I promise you won’t regret it.

Finally, I have been toying with the idea of posting some of the deleted scenes but that means extra work and I’m tragically allergic. Anyway, if you like my writing, feel free to check out my other work, ‘You Fell Hard but I Fell Harder’ (I happen to think it's quite good) and keep an eye out for any future projects of mine that I may or may not take months to write. Ok, mandatory plugging aside (sorry not sorry) …

I’d like to thank you once again for reading Part One, and I’ll catch y’all on the flip side.

Tech, out.
