Chapter 2

Misty sat in the back of the plane flying towards their next location. It had been months since James Howlett and Victor Creed had joined in on their little team. She had to admit that it was fairly nice to know that something good was coming out of this, but something sat deep in her stomach that she didn’t like. Something was worrying her in her bones like something wasn’t right.

Wade sat three seats down from her sharpening his sword with a wet stone. “You know, I love this weapon more than any other thing in the whole wide world. Do you wanna know why?”

“No.” Victor said simply as he looked at the man that didn’t know how to shut up.

“It's memorable. Sure, it's a little bulky, tough to get on a plane. You whip out a couple of swords at your ex-girlfriend's wedding, they will never, ever forget it.”

“That's funny, Wade. I think you confuse me with someone who gives a shit.”

Misty let out a soft chuckle shaking her head lightly. “Wade no one gives a shit about your swords.”

Wade looked over at Misty with a pout coming to his lips. “Awe you’re no fun, Mist.”

“And you let your mouth run away with you always.”

Wade let out a scoff. “Right, it's probably not as intimidating as having a gun or bone claws or the fingernails of a bag lady.”

Victor’s nails grew out some as he narrowed his eyes looking at Wade.

“Manicure?” Wade questioned as he brought out his baby knife.

James looked over at his brother. “Victor. Easy.”

“We don’t need any mishaps, boys.” Misty said, looking back at the two brothers and Wade. “Wade must you always get under people's skin like that?”

“Part of my nature Mist.”

Misty let out a scoff shaking her head lightly not liking the idea that Wade was rolling with the punches on this. It was dangerous enough to get under the skin of people, but he shouldn’t be doing it for just the hell of it.

“Fred got a new tattoo. I'm concerned.” Wade said pointing out that a fellow member got a tattoo done.

Misty’s brow raised as she turned to Fred. There it was in all its glory of a female on his arm.

“Oh, Jesus, Fred, you just met her last night.” James said looking over at Fred seeing the tattoo.

“I love her.” Fred simply stated.

“You love her after one night?”

“She's a gymnast.”

“Bradley, take her down.” Stryker said, ordering another member of the team.

Misty took a deep breath as they descended down towards the landing area where they were going.

“Oh, God.” James said with a groan.

Misty looked over at James. “Gonna get sick on us?”

“If we were meant to fly, we'd grow wings.” James said, looking over at Misty.

“Don't worry, Nancy. More people die driving than flying.” Agent Zero said as he looked at James.

“How about from impaling?”

“Hey, be nice, or be your approximation of nice.” Wraith said as he looked at James.

“You have three dangerous people that could impail you with claws or nails.” Misty said, looking over at Agent Zero.

“Would you like a bucket?”

“No.”

“Gentlemen and Lady, wheels down in Lagos in five.”

The nine of them walked through the streets of Lagos.

Misty looked around slightly concerned, the feeling deep in her stomach was growing like a pit. Something felt off with this whole thing.

“Why are we here?” James questioned looking up at the large building that they stopped at.

“All in good time. Zero?” Stryker said as he looked at his Asian teammate.

Misty let out a breath as Zero went to do his job. He was the best marksman that they had and he was deadly every time that he was brought out. He never missed a shot.

Victor smirked seeing how easily Agent Zero took them out. “Having fun yet?” He asked brushing past his brother and Misty and running into the area that Zero had just gone through.

“Fred?” Stryker said, looking over at Fred.

“The tank?”

“The tank.”

“Yeah I got that.” He said as he went to take care of the tank. He moved forward, stopping at the tank. He looked at the barrel of the tank before punching his fist into the barrel. A shot was fired only to destroy the tank.

Misty moved forward slowly still feeling unsure of the whole thing. Something about this mission didn’t feel right.

Wraith, Fred, Wade, Stryker, Bradly, James, and Misty all got in the closed space of the elevator.

Misty’s nails slowly grew out being prepared for anything else that they had to do.

Suddenly the elevator came to a stop.

Wraith pressed the button to the top floor which wasn’t going anywhere.

“Great. Stuck in an elevator with five guys on a high- protein diet and little miss. I'll dig your eyes out for dinner.” Wade said softly.

Misty rolled her eyes as he mocked her nails. She knew that one of these days his mouth was going to get him into trouble with Stryker. But she knew that Stryker wouldn’t throw Wade off of the team he was too valuable to the team.

“Wade.” Warned Stryker.

“Dreams really do come true.”

“Just shut it! You're up next.”

“Thank you, sir. You look really nice today. It's the green. It brings out the seriousness in your eyes.”

“Oh, my God. Do you ever shut up, pal?” James questioned rolling his eyes looking over at Wade.

“No. Not when I'm awake.”

“Only time he shuts up is if Luna here threatens him.” Wraith said, shaking his head lightly.

“Sometimes I wonder about that.” Misty said as she crossed her arms slightly.

“Bradley? Top floor, please.” Stryker said, looking over at Bradley.

Bradley used his ability to get them to the top floor of the building.

Wade looked as the numbers went up to the 12th floor. He squared his shoulders. “Time to go to work.” Once the elevator opened up he came out of the elevator to do his job.

Misty could hear the swords of Wade swiping through people and blocking off bullets.

“Okay. People are dead.” Wade called back towards the elevator.

Stryker was the first to walk out of the elevator removing his gloves he wore. “If you didn't have that mouth on you, Wade, you'd be the perfect soldier.”

Wraith appeared behind the guy that was left living in the room. “I wouldn't do that if I was you, brother.”

“Take the diamonds. They're yours.”

“I don't want your diamonds. I want this.” Stryker said as he picked up the ball off of the table.

“But that is nothing. A souvenir.”

“Where did you find it? I want the source.”

“A small village, far inland, three days from here.”

“All this for a rock? Why on earth are we here for that?” Misty thought to herself.

James turned his head smelling the distress off of Misty. He felt a tingle inside of his chest. Why was she so worried? It’s not like they were doing anything bad at that moment.

“Tell him this rock is more valuable to me than his life. Ask him where he found it.” Stryker said, showing the man before him kneeling on the ground.

Wade spoke in the language of their people to see what the answer would be. “Hey Hey hey. Listen…”

“Wade.”

“He says it came from the sky.”

“He's telling the truth.” James said, looking over at Stryker.

Misty nodded her head slowly. She agreed with what James was saying. Her eyes locked with the man’s eyes knowing that he was telling the truth.

“You don't know the language, Logan.”

“It's a meteor fragment.”

“I know what it is. I'm asking him where he found it.”

“Sir, base wants to know our location.” Bradley interrupted the harsh conversation that was going on at that moment.

“Shut them down.”

“Yes.”

“Tell him everyone here will die unless he tells me where he found the rock.”

“He says that it's sacred.”

“Okay, fine. Victor.” Stryker said, putting his hand on the shoulder of the older brother.

The hair began to stand up on Misty’s arms. Murdering a bunch of innocents was something that she didn’t sign up for. Her heart pounded in her chest. What was she going to do? Stryker gave her a home, but if this was home, well she didn’t want it.

All hell broke loose when Victor’s nails came out into the guy's neck.

Misty’s eyes widened as James knocked down Zero from killing more people.

James went to push himself from the ground. “Victor!” He grabbed his brother’s arm. “Don't even think about it. We didn't sign up for this. Put him down!”

Victor released him for a moment to look at James. “What are you doing? We finally got a good thing going here. Don't you screw this up.”

“It’s enough. That's enough. We've done enough.”

“Who do you think you are? This is what we do. Maybe you'd rather be rotting in a hole somewhere till they figure out a way to do it to us. Is that it? Huh?”

“I'm done.” James looked around. “You coming?” He moved away from his brother and looked at Misty who was standing there with wide amber eyes. “Come with me.”

Misty looked around at the ragtag group that was a team. This was her team, but killing innocents was something that she was against. They weren’t armed and they weren’t dangerous.

“Misty…” James called out again, breaking her from her thoughts. “Come with me, sweetheart.”

Misty swallowed the lump in her throat before slowly moving towards him. “Give up this family? For what James? A life on the run?”

“We will find places to go.”

Misty looked back at the group before turning her back on them and following James away from the team.

“Jimmy!” Victor called out causing James to slow up and turn to face them. “We can't just let you walk away.”

James shook his head and walked away from them leaving this life forever.

Misty swallowed the lump in her throat as she walked behind James.

“Jimmy! Jimmy!”
