Chapter 4
Henry’s POV:
My Dad and I were going out for a walk to get some ice cream for our family when aliens came out of the sky and started destroying everything. It was straight out of a comic book when I saw Captain America and his team come to save us. I was so excited to see them and then I was terrified when I got separated from my Dad.
I was trying to find him but also stay away from the aliens. Some grown ups found me and took me into this really cool building. Must be where the rich people work like Dad says. Then some aliens found us so we raced to the roof and were trapped.
My heart was beating so fast, my stomach felt funny, and my hands were starting to get sweaty. Reminded me of when I have to give a presentation at school. Four aliens crowded us and we couldn’t get the door back open to escape.
That’s when I saw a man with a bow and arrow fighting the aliens across the street on top of another building. He noticed us and rode a zipline over. He killed the first alien by shooting an arrow at it and kicked the second one off the building.
The third one was coming towards us so the man jumped on him and cut his throat, blue blood sprayed everywhere. Got all over the man’s arms.
“No!” I yelled as the last alien grabbed me and put a gun to my head.
“Shit. Hand him over,” the man said, “You’re not going to kill a kid.”
The alien tightened their grip on me as I tried to wrestle out of it.
“Shut up Tony,” the man said, “What’s your name kid?”
“Henry,” I answered as tears ran down my face.
“Henry, that’s a great name. My name is Clint,” he said, “I’m going to get you out of this but I need you to keep your eyes on me, okay?”
Once I nodded he threw his knife at the last alien and I didn’t look back. I ran towards Clint once I felt them let go. I hugged him tight as he asked if I was okay. We were leaving when Clint started to run and I heard him talk to Captain America and say the word bomb.
I tightened my grip as Clint jumped down the stairs until the bomb exploded above us. Clint dropped to the corner and covered me with his body. I stayed still and quiet until he fell on top of me, not moving.
“Clint?” I asked as I reached a hand out to touch his shoulder.
He didn’t answer me and that made my heart do a funny thing. My stomach started to feel weird again.
“Clint? Please wake up,” I pleaded as it started to get hard to breathe with the dust everywhere and him on top of me.
“Hmm,” he moaned.
“Clint?” I asked again as I tapped his shoulder, “Wake up!”
“Henry?” he asked as he slowly started to move, “You okay?”
“Yes,” I answered as I saw the blood on his head and side as he pulled away, “Are you okay? You’re bleeding!”
“I’ll be fine,” he said as he looked around to see both the stairwells leading up and down were covered in big rocks, “Let’s see if we can get out of here.”
He had me stay put while he talked to Captain America and moved some rocks away from a door. I wanted to help because I could tell some of the rocks were really heavy and he was already hurt but he wouldn’t let me. He got the door free but it wouldn’t open, it was locked.
“Okay then,” he sighed as he got down on his knee and pulled out something from his back pocket.
“What’s that?” I asked as I saw him take out little metal sticks and stick them into the door.
“These help me pick locks,” he answered.
“Wow! How did you learn to do that? Can you teach me?” I asked.
“Sure kid, I can teach you sometime,” he answered as he finished picking the lock and opened the door.
He was talking to Mr. Stark and Thor while he broke a window, telling us where to pick us up.
“Iron Man and Thor are coming!!” I yelled as I jumped up and down a little.
“Yes,” he chuckled, “They’re going to help us get down.”
“My my, who do we have here Clint?” Thor asked as he and Iron Man landed in the building next to us.
“I’m Henry!” I yelled as Thor bent down to see me.
“Well Henry, would you like a ride? I think there’s a very worried Dad down there looking for you,” he asked me.
“Yes,” I told him as he picked me up.
“Your chariot awaits my fair lady,” Iron Man told Clint as he took him and we both flew to the ground where the rest of the Avengers and a crowd of people were.
“Thank you,” I told Thor as I rushed to see my Dad who pushed his way through the crowd yelling my name, “Dad!”
I ran towards him and jumped into his arms, hugging him so tight. He kept asking me if I was okay and kept telling me he loved me. He picked me up and said we were going home.
“Wait,” I said as I made him put me down before I ran over and hugged Clint tightly, “Thank you.”
“No problem Henry,” he said as he wrapped his arms around me.
My Dad came over and hugged Clint too, careful of the wound on his side, “Thank you son for saving my boy.”
“You’re welcome,” Clint said, “If it’s alright with you, I may stop by later and show your son how to pick a lock. I may have promised him I would.”
“Deal,” My Dad said as he chuckled and shook his hand, “Thank you so much.”
“No problem,” he said before my Dad picked me up again and we started to walk home.
