In the Endgame - Part 1

With an air of unshakable determination and undying will, Steve shouted, “AVENGERS… Assemble.” Thor let loose a rallying battle cry as he took off charging toward Thanos and his army. Evie and the others all followed suit as all the heroes flooded the field.

From across the way, the purple genocidal Tital smiled. Pointing his double-edged sword. The earth shook as the two mighty armies advanced on one another.

The impact was a clash of legendary proportions.

As she ran, Evie used her craft to lift one chitauri gorilla into the flight path of Valkyier’s spear. Quickly, she caught another and ripped it in two, throwing the halves of the carcass towards incoming outriders.

To the side, a giant Ant-Man slugged a Leviathan in the jaw as Tony joined Pepper. The two strafed the field and sky. Evie was having a proud Stark moment, but it was interrupted when Thor’s burst of lightning batted an outrider away from her. Only she didn’t see Thor wielding Stormbreaker. It was Steve. The Asgardian prince frowned. “No, no, give me that.” He tossed over Mjolnir as Steve exchanged the axe for the hammer. “You have the little one.” Her giggles had Steve giving her an incredulous look.

“When the hell did that happen?”

“Like 5 minutes ago!” He replied before darting off towards another foe.

She was in the middle of disposing of a squadron of chitauri when Iron Man lasered down the remaining few, landing at her six. She shot him a toothy smile over her shoulder when her internal warning systems flared. Attempting to repeat the same move from the past, Corvus lunged at her back with his blade, but the attack missed. Meanwhile Cull Obsidian was trying to take out Tony with nothing but brute strength.

Evie spun on her heel and used her saber to break the pole of his weapon. With a snarl, he lunged forward again. However, Evie deftly outmaneuvered him, and with nothing more than the low hum of her lightsaber, he suddenly found himself frozen, unable to move.

With a final blink, his mouth fell open as his head slid off his shoulders, tumbling to the ground.

“That was for my son.” She seethed venomously.

Looking for her father, she was about to rush to his aid when Obsidian’s fatal blow was stopped with two webs. With a harsh yank, the brute was thrown off his feet, falling back in time to be crushed by Lang’s enormous foot. Peter recoiled at the crunching sound but shook it off as he leaped towards Tony and got him back to his feet. The sight of their reunion was enough for her to stop and admire it amid the chaos—a tear threatening to spill over her lashes when they embraced. Evie was blinded by joy, taking one step forward when the force of a freight train slammed into her.

Knocked down, she flailed her arms, utilizing the exposed rebar from a chuck of rubble to skewer the beast on top of her in a sharp turning motion. Evie jumped up with only seconds to spare and reacted to the incoming attack of three more gorillas accompanied by a platoon of chitauri. To say she had her hands full was an understatement. One hand was outstretched, keeping two of the gorillas at bay, while the other was crushing the third in a massive black bubble as her powers kept a perimeter around herself. Preventing the chitauri blasts from hitting her body. The flutter of wings made her look up. Valkyrie lined up a perfect shot and spared the gorillas. This allowed Evie to finish crushing the other one, only to use him as a bowling ball and strike down the firing squad surrounding her. As she caught her breath, Evie waved at Valkyrie, who was already off searching for her next victims. About to do the same herself, Evie scanned the battleground for the next place to insert herself when Clint’s rushed voice was in her ear.

“Cap! What do you want me to do with this damn thing?” She ran up a pile of boulders trying to spot Hawkeye.

“Get those stones as far away as possible!”

“No!” Bruce said, cutting into the comms. “We need to get ‘em back where they came from.” Tony would then blurt out what Evie was about to say next before having to block and take down a few outriders.

“No way to get ‘em back. Thanos destroyed the quantum tunnel.”

But the solution would come in a rather unorthodox way from Ant-Man who shouted, “Hold on!” He shrunk down to normal size. “That wasn’t our only time machine.” He exclaimed, clicking the remote to set the car keys in his possession. In her far-off right, she turned to the sound of a horn playing La Cucaracha. Evie’s brows furrowed for a moment before realizing what Lang was leading on with.

She placed a hand to her ear, “Does anyone see an ugly ass, brown van down there!”

“Yes,” Valkyrie responded, swooping down to give Evie a ride on her winged horse. “But you’re not gonna like where it’s parked!” She pointed to the van sitting pretty deep behind enemy lines, surrounded by thousands of invading aliens. “Fuck,” Stark grumbled to herself. It was quickly decided that Scott would get the van operational as they all were to secure the stones and escort them back to their respective times. But the battle was still being waged. So after giving Valkyrie a grateful hug, Evie jumped off the flying horse mid-air, falling into an awaiting black cloud. She rolled out the other side and summoned her darkness to shred flocks of outriders and chitauri, granting a running Clint a clear path toward the van. From her peripheral vision, she catches Tony seemingly confronting the doctor. But Evie isn’t able to focus on his exchange of words with Strange due to the ape-like monstrosities charging at her.

With the beasts disposed of after lots of hacking, slicing, and magic, Evie quickly assessed that Barton was gonna need assistance. Two leviathans had been clever enough to sync a coordinated attack to try and deter him by swooping down from two different angles. Immediately running in to block them off from Clint, she threw her hands up. As she exerted her magic, smoke rolled off her body in waves that pooled around her feet. Above her head, the leviathans began to groan and roar as they were encased in thick black clouds and streaks of blue magic sparking. Evie looked over her shoulder to bark at Hawkeye. “Move your ass!”

He shakes off the stupor and leaves Evie behind to deliver the stones. The creatures were almost squealing, struggling against her grip. Evie could feel her boots sliding back, as the immense force required to hold them still was about to reach its peak. Fortunately, Wakanadan and Ravager ship pilots had witnessed everything unfold and began to fire at the creatures, taking them down just in time.

Taking a moment to lean against a rock and catch her breath, she felt the tension in the air as the opposing team became increasingly aware of Barton. It was clear he was being targeted for the glove. Taking a deep breath, she psych'ed herself up, saying, “Come on! Let’s get this shit done!” A curtain of fog enveloped her, transporting her directly to Clint, who was busy firing arrows with lethal accuracy.

Her eyes widened in surprise when she noticed that the gauntlet was missing. “Relax,” he said quickly, shooting at an enemy without even looking. “T’Challa has it!” Without wasting time on further explanation, Evie activated her saber once more, moving swiftly across the battlefield, entering and exiting black portals. She efficiently cut down any hostiles in her path as she rushed to assist once again.

The king had just barely run up a ravine when he got knocked off his feet by Thanos who threw the double-edged sword. Yet Evie wasn’t too worried about barreling in. Someone else was also there to assist T’Challa. Just as Thanos moved in on the Black Panther, all around them wreckage began to glow red and levitate. The two looked up to see Wanda landing, a shock wave of magic rippling from the girl. A murderous scowl was etched into her face as she addressed Thanos directly.

“You took everythingfrom me.”

Evie, feeling the same way, emerged from the surrounding shadows. Crawling out of the ground, she said, “From both of us!” With just as much acidity and callousness as Maximoff.

Indifferent to their presence, he tightened his grip on the blade. “I don’t even know who you two are…” he replied. Evie and Wanda exchanged a side glance—a small gesture that communicated a thousand words. Their solidarity for what they had to endure stood above everything else. In unison, their voices mingled eerily as they said, “You will.”

The two women attacked, using their skills and powers in concert. The floating rubble gets lifted high as Wanda takes to the air, throwing them at the Titan, now gunning for them both. Evie calls forth the dark and begins to snake the darkness up his legs. Binding Thanos to the ground.

Wielding his massive sword, he managed to gain enough momentum to cut through it all and still keep moving. Enough to try and chop down Wanda, but then Evie held back the sword, allowing the witch to take the opening to not only throw the blade from his hands but break off one of its edges. As Evie traps him in a straightjacket of black magic, red energy swarms around him, lifting Thanos from the ground and slowly peeling off his armor as he’s crushed bit by bit. From not too far off, one of his Children sensed his distress.

Ebony Maw was no fool. He didn’t approach recklessly. Instead, he used the earth to pull Evie out of the fight. Once separated from Wanda, she glared at his smug smile before feeling weightless, wind muffling her ears as she was thrown clear across the battleground. She screwed her eyes shut, mentally preparing for the rough landing, when the feeling of slender yet firm and strong arms caught her. Evie heard the reassuring voice of her mother say, “I got you, honey!” Her eyes opened to see the lovely blue helmet of Pepper’s armor as they streaked across the sky. However, the moment was short-lived when a losing Thanos shouted, “RAIN FIRE!” He soon found out that Wanda was more than capable of holding her own, and he very quickly took the coward's way out. As Rescue was looking for a suitable place to deposit her daughter, the warship looming above began to once more fire indiscriminately. The Stark women dodged the blasts in time to see the last remaining levee start to crumble due to the bombings. “Uh, is anyone else seeing this?”

At her mom’s comment, Dr. Strange turned in time to hold back the swell of water. Conjuring a spell to suck in the millions of gallons into a waterspout. The blast kept coming, and Evie decided she was more help on the ground than from above. Pepper let go, allowing her to drop down in time to project her force field and just in time too. The ground she landed on had just taken two consecutive hits and was in severe need of coverage.

As the obsidian dome kept the blasts from reaching its target, one person in particular was rather shocked to see Evie, of all people, there to save his life.

With her hands still up in the air, Evie glanced around to see General Ayo and Sargent Barnes taking shelter under a slab of concrete. “Genevieve, always in the nick of time!” The woman exclaimed, grateful to see her friend. “Ayo, hey girl,” she said casually yet soon Evie let out a shaky breath as her arms were growing heavy with the strain of casting such a large shield constantly being pounded. “We really need to stop meeting like this…” Evie chose to ignore the former assassin because his expression was unreadable. As usual, his thoughts were also difficult to decipher. Instead, she focused on the Chitauri horde, using a burst of her energy to propel them into a clearing, where their own explosives took them out.

But with the incessant aerial raid still raging on, Strange was forced to call back up seeing as everyone else was dealing with something of their own. “Stark, I need back up here!”

With a displeased grunt, Tony responded with, “I’m a little preoccupied at the moment!”

The master of mystic arts closed his eyes and tried not to curse out loud. “The other Stark…”

Evie quickly uses the brief pause of projectiles to better stack the rubble and prove coverage for the ones around her before calling out to Strange. “On my way!” Teleporting to his side, Evie didn’t hesitate to multitask. Sharing the burden of holding back the lake threatening to spill over and cover Strange from the hellfire still raining.

The air assault continued for what felt like an eternity. Evie had to suppress the urge to rush to Peter’s aid when he had called for help. Thankfully, the women present were no joke, all very much capable fighters. Pepper had swooped down to hot potato Spider-Man to Valkyrie. Yet the attempt to get the glove to Lang went down the instant as a shell popped midair. Knocking Parker off the flying horse, where he found himself curling around the gauntlet, praying the bombing would stop.

And it seemed someone had answered his prayer. The Sanctuary suddenly ceased fire briefly to refocus its aim towards the sky. Unleashing their onslaught to something no one had visual on. As Evie started forming a makeshift dam with debris, she called out, “What the hell is that? Anyone got eyes?!”

“Friday, what are they firing at?” Tony asked, flying overhead searching upwards for whatever was incoming. Friday’s response, “Something just entered the upper atmosphere!” Evie looked up to see what looked like a falling star veer straight towards the warship. The collision was inevitable as the comet plowed straight through the center of the shuttle. The sheer force of the impact is felt by all. As soon as the bright light came out the other end, its brightness died down enough for all to see that it wasn't some sentient asteroid; it was Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel herself. As she paused to redirect back to the spaceship, Evie let loose a squealed cheer. “Fuck yeah, let’s go, Danvers!” The hero straight out of deep space grew bright once more as she went binary, rocketing through the hull a second time. Ensuring the double tap brought Thanos’ home down in flames.

And it did, sending the enormous warship careening towards the lake awaiting below.

Evie wasn’t the only one working double time during the ongoing battle. Just as she had a new make-shift levee nearly complete, Ant-Man jumped on the comms. “I’m almost there. Where’s the glove?” Cap called out to the woman appreciating her handy work from high above. “Danvers, we need an assist here!” Evie turned to Strange as she placed the last piece of the dam in place.

“You all good here, Doc?”

“Yeah,” he breathed out, peering around to where he was needed next, taking a small break in the process. As Evie proceeded to play a deadly game of whack-a-chitauri, leaving puffs of black smoke in her wake as she worked her way to the all-female crew, ready to kick ass and help Captain Marvel deliver the glove to Lang’s van.

At the ridge of the combat zone, Thanos had just gotten over the shock of having his home blasted when he made out the elite squad now tearing through his troops as if they were made of paper and match sticks. As they charged in without an ounce of fear, Evie spotted the remaining members of the Black Order at the helm of the opposing army. Just as General Okoye was gonna spear Proxima, she used her magic to hold her back. “No, this one’s mine!”

The head of the Dora Milaje gave her a knowing glance before nodding and gunning her next target.

As Evie engaged in hand to hand combat, Proxima Midnight with her lance and Stark with her lightsaber, Thanos was able to calculate their trajectory. More specifically Danvers’. His suspicions were confirmed when Scott kicked the van’s back doors wider, exposing the quantum tunnel now fully operational and ready to go in T-minus thirty seconds.

The Titan understood immediately and started running. Grabbing his broken sword, he rushed to block Carol’s flight path.

The women all saw this, and Evie doubled her efforts to dispose of Proxima. Wielding her blade with magic to slice the other from her belly to her throat.

Just as Pepper, Shuri, and the Wasp all aimed and fired at the purple alien, Evie trapped him in a vice grip, a dark cloud cementing his feet to the ground. The combined blast knocked him off course, allowing Marvel to pass without halting. But as Evie got locked in a dog fight with Ebony Maw, Thanos pulled a Hail Mary. Hurling his blade in the same direction as Carol was mere seconds away from reaching.

Everyone stopped and stared.

Everyone held their breath as they watched everything transpire in real-time. Unable to prevent the events about to unfold. The blade had somehow defied the laws of physics and beat Carol to the van. The blast was massive, and the shockwave that followed threw everyone off their feet. The outburst had enough force that Evie’s thrown-together dam came crumbling down with ease, and everyone was left dazed. With barely enough straight to peel themselves off the ground.
