It’s quiet in the tower, which is unusual— between the clockwork itself and everything else Barbara has going on, there’s never not any level of background noise.
But maybe he’s just too focused to notice anything other than her: head down at her desk, exhausted, waiting, almost praying.
“Hey,” he murmurs, resting a hand against hers so that she can feel the weight and warmth, “I’m here.”
