Everybody's in a hurry, in a flurry
Shopping 'til they're droppin' in the snow
Kids are cryin', dogs are barkin'
Catching up with folks we barely know
It was christmas eve, a particularly cold one at that. Peter was finally doing his Christmas shopping. He wasn't going to actually spend the holiday with anyone, people already having their families. Matt would probably let him stay for a bit, but he’d want to spend his free time with his partners, Foggy and Karen.
Looking at his list the rest on it were people he wasn't close to as Peter, only as Spider-man. He didn't particularly entertain the idea of sitting around in his masked persona for hours. Yep, alone it is.
He had been alone the past 5 years, at first was with his parents, then with Ben and May, then only May. and then may left him. The grief still overtook him at times, but he was ok. He had his friends. Hey maybe he could crash the x-men christmas party, those were always a guarantee for a good night.
- Matt (Foggy & Karen)
- Frank
- Jess
- X-mansion
- Pepper & Morgan
- Wade
He was stuck on the last one, Wade. The mercenary had wormed his way into Peter's heart. The problem was what to get him. What do you get the guy who both wants everything and nothing. It also doesn't help that his heart starts fluttering when the man is close.
He sadly knows the feeling all too well. It's how he felt looking at MJ or Liz. Both met disastrous ends, Putting Liz’s dad in prison, and MJ completely forgetting about him.
Still deep in his thoughts wandering through the isles he saw the children's section. Perfect! Looking through the toys he found a pink unicorn, Wade loved them. Hopefully it didn't seem too….. Thought out?
Placing it in his cart he headed to the checkout. It was ridiculously expensive, a whole $30! His part time job as a mechanic wasn't going to get him through college at this rate. On his way home he stopped by his friends, giving them the gifts he had bought. A few he snuck in, the ugly vase he bought for the x-mansion like every year on a new end table in some hallway, waiting to be discovered. Placing Pepper and Morgans under their tree, signed “-from Spidey!”
Once again, he was left with Wade. He knew where the man lived, but he was so rarely home he doubted he would see it for a few months. Should he try to find him? Give it to him in person? Or should he just put it in his apartment and wait till the man comes calling.
“PETEY!!”
Yeah like that- wait. Wade???? Peter turned around, there he was. It was snowing now, it had for a while based on the snow piles growing on his shoulders and hat. Peter starred in disbelief at the merc, who for some reason had perfect timing.
“Blind Al has someone over for Christmas and kicked me out, and everyone else is busy.” Wade pouted, looking oddly domestic in his spider-man Christmas sweater, a green cotton hat that didn’t match at all and a white scarf. His footprints, bigger with boots than his suit, quickly being covered by people walking around them and the snow still falling.
“Anyway, everyone else was busy so I decided to crash your plans of being alone. Now you arent!” Peter couldn't help but laugh. Peter never knew what he was saying half the time but he got used to it, a small part of him wondered if Wade knew his feelings. He seemed to know everything else.
Peter smiled before motioning the other to come with him, planning to head back to his apartment. Turning around after not hearing the crunching footsteps and wild heartbeat following him he tilted his head. “You commin Wade? I thought you wanted to hang out.” He teased.
“Uh uh uh baby boy,” Wade wagged his finger at Peter, confusing him more. “You just walked right past the mistletoe we were standing under!” Wade clarified. Peter flushed, hoping it looked like he was just cold. Peter sighed, walking back over to wade. Closing his eyes he used his tippy toes to reach and pecked Wade on the lips. Leaning back he giggled at the expression on Wade's face.
“You asked, don't tell me you regret it already.” Peter laughed, turning around and walking towards his apartment again, smiling as he heard rushed footsteps following him, a warm calloused and scarred hand gripping his.
Sure it's madness, but it's magic
As soon as you hang up the mistletoe
'Cause you're the reason for the season
No, we don't need to keep up with the Jones
Peter unlocked the door, letting go of Wade's hand. Much to both their disappointment. Remembering the unicorn he bought, he now felt stupid. Sitting at his kitchen table as Wade made them dinner with what he had. Peter inherited May’s cooking skills. They laughed and talked, ignoring the nagging feeling they both felt.
They really needed to talk about it. Wade got over his anxieties first, getting ready to leave at a moment’s notice, in case Peter really didn’t feel the same. He had no reason to believe otherwise, just his own insecurities.
Taking a deep breath, he ignored Peter for a moment, gathering his courage.
“I like you!” Peter opened his eyes, both squinting at the other. They had blurted it out at the same time. Peter clutched his midsection, laughing. Wade didn’t fare much better, holding onto the table. Their half eaten food momentarily forgotten as they held out a hand.
Peter smiled fondly at the other man, his right hand clasped neatly in his left. He had never seen Wade so serious, and calm before. It was nice he wasn’t putting up an act around him.
“Boyfriends?” Peter whispered.
“Boyfriends.” Wade replied.
Our love is something priceless
Wade loved the unicorn, not putting it down for a second. Even as they leaned into each other's warmth on the couch, watching movie after movie. It was all mindless Disney.
All they cared about at the moment was spending the evening together, hands still tightly clasped. “Oh! Baby boy, we should go patrol for a little while!” Wade suddenly jumped, abandoning the unicorn finally. Peter chuckled standing up and folding the blanket back onto the couch.
“And what brought this on?” He said hands circling the man's neck in a hug, nipping his lips before pulling back. Wade smiled at him.
“Matt’s gonna be out. We can annoy him!” That made Peter laugh harder, heading to put on his suit. He quickly pulled it on, Karen greeting him a familiar routine. He turned the heater all the way up before heading out to Wade, who was already in his Deadpool get up.
“And where did this come from?” Peter asked with a raised eyebrow. It wasn’t noticeable in the suit, but he knew Wade could see it.
“You wound me!” He clutched his hand to his chest dramatically. “Why would you think I don't have a suit in your apartment? Obviously I was waiting for this exact moment.” He leaned forward and gave Peter a kiss through the mask.
They went their separate ways, reaching a roof a few blocks away in Hell’s Kitchen. Wade grabbed his hand.
“Let's annoy Matty with our love!”
I don't need diamonds, no sparkly things (no oh oh oh oh)
'Cause you can't buy this a-feeling (no oh oh oh oh)
It had only been 20 minutes before they found the devil of Hell’s Kitchen, or better yet, he found them. They were taking a break, sitting on a roof, hand in hand.
“Ah, finally.” Peter definitely 100% did not screech and fall off the roof. Nope. You're crazy.
“Matty! Don't kill my boyfriend.” Wade playfully snickered, helping Peter back off as he climbed back off. He’d grabbed onto the wall spider style.
Matt laughed openly, sitting next to them. “Congratulations, I was wondering when this would happen. Careful with the others though, they’re protective.” The wrinkles on his face were more prominent when he smiled. Especially ones that met his eyes.
Wade and Peter laughed, nodding in agreement at what to say next.
“Then they dont get an invite to our wedding.” Wade sniffed, Peter patted his back with mock sympathy.
Peter turned to Matt, “Don't worry, you’re definitely invited.” Wade nodded along confidently. Adding in (un) helpfully, “especially after we got to witness your beautiful ceremony.”
Matt laughed as they chatted, just getting together as old friends tonight.
Nothing lights my fire or wraps me up, baby, like you do
Just want a cozy, a cozy little Christmas here with you
They were still on the rooftop. Matt had left long ago. They were just sitting there, soaking in each other’s warmth and comfort. It was almost midnight, Christmas day.
Wade pulled a speaker out of nowhere, pulling Peter to his feet.
“Wha- Wade what are we doing?” Peter questioned, looking at the large digital clock of Times Square. They had sat down to watch the time tick by. It was 11:57 and instantly Katy Perry filled their comfortable silence.
“Dance with me, baby boy.” Wade asked, arm outstretched, his mask was sitting nearby. It allowed Peter to see the charming smile. Peter slipped his mask off, taking the man's hand.
They swished and swayed to the song, spinning and laughing. At one point Wade picked him up, dirty dancing style.
It was the most fun he’d had, dancing to cheesy Christmas love songs and dancing with his boyfriend. The clock had long passed 12, heading straight into 1.
So, Mr. Santa (Mr. Santa)
Take the day off (take the day off)
Get a massage (get a massage)
'Cause we've got this one all under control
A little whiskey (a little whiskey)
And slow dancing to Nat King Cole
No, we ain't stressin' (we ain't stressin')
Just caressin' (mhm)
And warming up our Popsicle toes
Nothing's missin' (nothing's missin')
'Cause you're a blessin' ('cause you're the blessin')
Yes, you're the only one I'm wishing for
They had slipped their masks back on, opting to walk back to Peters together. Hands inseparable for all the world to see. Slipping into an alley nearby and into his window they wound up back in sweaters watching hallmark.
They laughed at the predictable yet entertaining movies and drank their fill of hot chocolate.
This was the best Christmas Peter had had since may. The grief wasn't drowning either. He's glad He met Wade.
Our love is something priceless
The year had gone by fast. It was already their second Christmas together. This year, they ate dinner with Matt and his lovers. Having fun with friends before going off to do their own thing.
I don't need diamonds, no sparkly things (no oh oh oh oh)
'Cause you can't buy this a-feeling (no oh oh oh oh)
Nothing lights my fire or wraps me up, baby, like you do
Just want a cozy, a cozy little Christmas here with you
They spent their anniversary much the same as the did the first time, watching trashy rom coms and dancing on rooftops.
The first song is Katy Perry. It was their first dance, and always will be. All year round when they had the urge to dance, whether out in costume, or cooking dinner, they put on cozy little Christmas. It was their song.
I don't need anything
Take back all the Cartier,
and the Tiffany's and the Chanel
Well, can I keep that Chanel? Please?
By their third Christmas they had moved in together, blind Al was very happy to have her space and the couple were happy to spend more time together.
They cooked dinner, danced, laughed, and hosted their friends. The walls filled with photos from travels and dates, they added more furniture. The apartment was all them, no longer just a place Peter slept and ate.
No, no, no, no
I don't need diamonds, no sparkly things (no oh oh oh oh)
'Cause you can't buy this a-feeling (no oh oh oh oh)
Nothing lights my fire or wraps me up, baby, like you do
Just want a cozy, a cozy little Christmas here with you
Once again, it was 11:57 and they were on the same rooftop. Christmas eve was ending fast, but two weren’t paying attention. Swaying, spinning, and laughing. Wade still pulled dirty dancing moves that didn’t match the song, but was all them.
Cozy little Christmas blasting around them, masks sat next to the speaker. The song came to a close, and so did their messy dance. Katy Perry’s last sentence was drowned out by the chime of the clock, midnight, it was Christmas.
Their speaker stopped, causing Peter to falter. Turning to the little thing he tried turning up the volume and unpausing but nothing worked. Frowning, he kept inspecting the thing. A tap ok his shoulder distracting him from his spiraling thoughts to fix their beloved speaker.
Turning around, all thoughts of the speaker were lost.
Wade was still there, on one knee.
He had a beautiful ring in a box.
Open to Peter.
“Will you marry me, baby boy?”
(Fa la la la la la la la, la la la la la la la la la la) Just you and me, under a tree (Fa la la la la la la la, la la la la la la la la la la)
Another Christmas eve. It’s been 9 without May. It was all getting better now. Especially as he was surrounded by his friends, his family. Hand in hand with Wade.
On the same rooftop they’ve danced on so many times.
Matt was their officiant and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
He and Wade got married on that rooftop they had their first date on, kissing to the familiar bell as it struck midnight.
Their first dance was messy, no classes taken, just the passion they had every time they listened to Katy Perry.
A cozy little Christmas here with you
