Wings Of Fire AU (HiveWing Edition!)
In this AU, Reader, Laura, Pietro, Kurt, and Kitty are HiveWing dragonets who blew into Pyrrhia a few years ago, with a few other HiveWing survivors of a terrible Monarch and their horrible experiments...
Reader tries to keep their friends out of trouble, often stuck between helping them out of it or covering for them so they don't get caught. They've stepped up to act like a stable figure in their lives, taking care of hunting and selling what they can at their market stall in the old, bustling town of Possibility...
But their stories, often small and incomplete, have enchanted the others, who wish to know more of their mysterious former home and continent, and who want to solve the mystery behind the strange marks on their palms and why none of the survivors speak of the night they left...
During a fishing accident, the five are swept out to sea, barely finding the islands that lead them to Pantala, to home...
The five hide out in cave, and Reader has to explain the dark truth behind why they all left.... That they were all experiments, amongst other young dragonets and adults, who had powers that the old queen wanted to harness... They had kept them locked away, forced them to train and fight, tried to make them loyal zombies, just pawns... Sadly, only a few of them remained free, not part of the tribe's odd, powerful hivemind. Reader and them were able to escape along with Captain America and a few others, but sadly he fell intonation coma, so no one knew what had happened... but Reader did... That night, Reader was, under instruction, to set a fire at the base of the Hive, and in the chaos, they'd all make their escape... They did, but they'd never see home or their family or friends again, and Reader would try to suppress the nightmares for the next several years...
Knowing this, the five observe the tribe from afar, noticing they wear odd masks that cover their faces. The Hive is hardly ever left save for those who visit the lake or go hunting in the savanna... So, to find out if it's safe, Reader offers to infiltrate the Hive, starting by going through the market...
A young dragonet (one of the X-Teens or Brotherhood teens or even a New Mutant or Heck, Peter Parker), run into an odd dragon in the markets, one who twitches and who seems to be starving. They worry for them, and don't believe they know them... but they can sense them through the hivemind... yet... it's like their connection is muted. No thoughts come through, no emotions, no images, nothing beyond a light buzz...
They try to befriend this new stranger, who doesn't seem bad, just a bit jumpy and lonely. Theu hope they aren't being abused or hurt! They seem too nice for that! And the Hive should have dealt with the traitors who tried to hurt thr Hive, who did all those bad, awful things in the past... who killed their poor friends, their family...
They walk this new dragon through the Hive, telling them all about the Mosaics of Peace, and the Hive Council, and show them all the best places to see... Yet their friend leaves at the end of the day...
Hmmm...
But they're back! The next day and the next and the next! And they're so cool! So tough and brave and they have this funny laugh. Moons, they wish they were friends...
But then... they catch sight of something... odd. Their friend has something etched into their palm, letters and numbers... like... like them. Like every dragon and dragonet who was in the Hive X Program...
This... it can't be... they KNOW this dragon... is it really...
"Reader? Is it really you?"
But then they run... and no, nonono, they just got them back, please stay, don't go! The whole Hive responds, all of them now trying to find their missing child, their friend... Except... now there's someone saying there's another newcomer in the Hive... and that they're also trying to find Reader...
They have to catch them, they can't let them escape! They won't lose their family again...
