Going down, like the Titanic
You sat up, running a hand through your hair. You huffed, trying to figure every thing out. You stood up, hands on your hips as you looked around,
Â
A neighborhood.
Â
You head tilted, mainly because the sanctum was no where to be seen. And that's where you were last.
Â
In the midst of your thoughts, you heard a voice.
Â
"What the fuck? Who are you? Why are you on my lawn?"
Â
He paused before speaking again.
Â
"... Are you... ok?"
Â
You blinked. You pursed your lips and turned around to the sound of the voice. You saw a young man, around your age, brown curly hair, plush lips, soft brown eyes. Definitely easy on your own eyes.
Â
You shook your head at those thoughts and answered.
Â
"Umm... yeah, yeah I'm ok.."
Â
You didn't know why, but something in you told you to trust him.
Â
He nodded, and you could see his shoulders relaxing as he heard that you're ok.
Â
"Ok. Now answer my first questions, who are you? And why are you on my lawn?"
Â
His lawn, you repeated in your mind.
Â
"I'm [NAME]. And I know I might sound really dumb for asking but um, what city is this?"
Â
You asked, honestly slightly embarrassed, but hey, you were in the sanctum, and now you're not, you need answers.
Â
"Palmera City, why?"
Â
Palmera City? Like in L.A? You thought to yourself.
Â
"Oh ok, I see, I'm from Queens."
Â
You said trying to hide the panic in your voice. At least all you did was travel cities.
Â
(Little did you know you traveled universes.)
Â
Jaime grew increasingly more confused.
Â
"Queens? Like in New York?!"
Â
"That would be it."
Â
You eyed the boy up and down before an idea popped in your head.
Â
"Do you have a phone I can borrow? Mine's dead."
Â
Jaime quickly nodded, reaching into his pocket and quickly pulling out his phone, handing it to you.
Â
It was almost as if he was eager to please you.
Â
You took the phone from him, scrolling through the apps, trying to find the call button.
Â
Your eyes stop at the sight of a news article that pops up. Something about Batman saving someone. But really catches your eye, is that Batman part.
Â
Jaime notices, and peeks over your shoulder to see what's caught your attention and has you looking like you've seen a ghost.
Â
"Oh, that? Yeah, just regular stuff. You a fan of Batman or something?"
Â
"Batman's real?!"
Â
You squeak before even processing the thought.
Â
Jaime tilted his head to the side, a hint of amusement in his eyes.
Â
"Yeah? Why wouldn't he be?"
Â
You squeak again, your breathing picking up pace.
Â
His eyes widen in worry, and he places a soft hand on your shoulder.
Â
"Hey, hey, what's wrong? Let me help you.."
Â
You shake your head, taking deep breathes to overcome your initial panic as you look up into his dark brown eyes.
Â
"Ok, ok... I'm going to tell you something, and it's going to sound really crazy, and you're going to want to send me to like, a mental hospital or something, but just listen..."
Â
You took a breath before speaking your next words.
Â
"I'm from another universe... where Batman, or superman, or wonder woman aren't real, they're just characters.."
Â
He nods, and takes a moment to respond.
Â
"Ok, I believe you."
Â
He says super calmly, which causes you to tilt your head.
Â
"You do?"
Â
"It's not the craziest thing I've heard."
Â
You nod, eyeing the boy again, this time in a new light.
Â
"Do you have any idea what universe your from? Or how you even got here?"
Â
He seemed so... genuine. Like he actually wanted to help. It was... endearing, to be honest.
Â
"um... I'm from universe..."
Â
You trailed off as you tried to remember all those boring lectures from Strange.
Â
"616! I'm from universe 616!"
Â
You smiled at yourself for being able to remember it correctly.
Â
"And I got here by playing with some magic, if you believe that."
Â
He chuckles lightly, his smile glimmering with the sun.
Â
"Yeah, yeah I believe you. What kind of magic? Do you remember?
Â
You nod, knowing the answer to this one very well.
Â
"Eldritch magic."
Â
He nods again, this time, his face portrays serious understanding.
Â
"Ok, I can help you get home, but it might take a while. In the meantime, you're welcome to stay here. My family won't mind."
Â
Your eyes widen. You didn't care how cute he was, you didn't know this guy at all!
Â
"What?! No way! I don't even know your name, you're a complete stranger!"
Â
He smiles, he's clearly not fazed by your mood swings.
Â
"I'm Jaime, Jaime Reyes. And you are...?"
Â
Jaime. Where have you heard that before?
Â
"I'm [NAME]"
Â
He nods, smiling at you softly, and walking towards his front door.
Â
"C'mon"
Â
He whispers, and you follow him.
