The Run In

Bucky’s mind was filled with thoughts of Le’Renn, all week long. He just wanted to see her again. To talk to her again. To maybe get to know her more.

“Ugh, it’s hopeless. She’s probably taken,” he spoke doubts to himself, running his hands over his face and through his hair.

But could that be true? He hasn’t seen any men, or women, enter her apartment other than her. Who was he kidding, he was finding every excuse in the book for her to be single. It’s not like he was looking for a relationship, but this drop dead gorgeous girl moved in next door. And she’s taken over his thoughts.

Though he felt he made a fool of himself the first time he spoke with her. He was so awkward and nervous.

‘Maybe I blew my chances,’ he thought.

He did definitely mess up a few words when he talked to her, including telling her that she was absolutely beautiful. Just outright said it. Which his face then got red, and then redder after that. Yeah, he definitely embarrassed himself, right in front of her.

He sat up from his bed, groaning, and nervously rubbing his face, especially over his eyes. He couldn’t explain the feeling he felt. Desperation? Longing? Want? He didn’t know, maybe all three.

But, he didn’t know if he could even handle having a partner. To have someone who knew everything about him. His doubts, his fears, the way he looked, beyond his clothes. Gosh, that was now a new fear of his. What if she hated the way he looked? What if she thought he was pathetic for being afraid? What if she thought he was a monster? What if… No! He needed to get out of his head. What was he going to do though?

Bucky got up, pacing around the room. If he wasn’t careful he just might rub the carpet raw. He then groaned and sat back down, and placed his head in his hands. His thoughts taking over his entire being.

She was definitely too young for him, but, she seemed so sweet, so kind. Bucky didn’t know what to think anymore. All the bad, the reasons he shouldn’t, had gone out the window. He had to see her again.

“Ugh… I have to go see her.”

Bucky was getting desperate to see Le’Renn, to hear her voice. He got up, shoving his boots on and his jacket and gloves, before heading out the door, heading across the hall.

Though he was in a rush, his emotions on high, and he didn’t see her open the door and walk out. So he ran right into her, knocking her down.

“Oh god damn! I’m so sorry,” Bucky apologized.

He wanted to help her up but didn’t know if he should touch her. Meanwhile, she sat on the floor, laughing softly. ‘Gosh her laugh was perfect too,’ he thought.

“hehe, it’s okay. I’m not hurt,” Le’Renn replied.

“Here, let me help you,” he spoke bending down to help her up.

“Nah, it’s okay. I got it.”

Bucky immediately backed off at that. Disappointed a little, that he didn’t get to touch her, but thought it was her choice, so.

“Oh, okay.”

Le’Renn finally got herself up, straightening her shirt. Bucky was so close to her, gosh her scent filled his nose. He could almost touch her, but he refrained. Why was he having these feelings? Why did his heart race every time he saw her?

Bucky looked her over, though he knew that was wrong. She was so pretty, her hair up in a high pony, it falling around her shoulder. He thought she just glowed, with those freckles of hers. His eyes then trailed down, she was wearing a light blue, Stitch shirt. Bucky barely even knew what that character was. Only knowing that many people, especially women, like the little alien. Le’Renn’s freckles shone bright on her arms. Her pale skin, making the dark spots stand out. The pants she was wearing looked like jeans, but not. They had washed out, white flowers on them. They were jeggings, though Bucky didn’t know they were called that. Only the fact that they really showed her curves, and the outline of her hips.

He sighed, though he didn’t mean to. ‘She’s got so much personality,’ he thought. He couldn’t tear his eyes away, he wanted to memorize every part of her. Though his doubts were coming back. She was too good for him, too pure.

“You in a rush?”

Her voice brought him out of his thoughts. Bucky shook his head, and gave a smile.

“Huh? Oh, uh, no. No I’m not,” he stumbled over his words a bit.

Le’Renn smiled softly at him, making him melt, though, feel guilty as well. He didn’t feel he deserved to be there, talking to her. For Christ sake he knocked her over like ten minutes ago.

“Uhhh… are you single?” Bucky asked, without even thinking. He was just trying to fill the silence, not embarrass himself.

She just chuckled, which made him go tomato red. He internally groaned.

“Hehe…yes, yes I’m single,” she chuckled and twirled her ponytail through her fingers.

‘She is so sweet,’ Bucky thought. How could she get even more cute? And that little nervous tic of hers was so adorable in his eyes. And she was single! The words finally registering in his brain. He was enthralled, gosh, he actually had a chance.

“Really!?” He was a bit too enthusiastic with his response, and mentally kicked himself for it.

“Yes,” Le’Renn chuckled again, scuffing her feet across the floor, nervously. Shoving her hands in her back pockets. She didn’t look him in the eyes, this time.

He then chuckled too, to lighten the mood. She was just as nervous as he was, it was endearing to him. He rubbed the back of his neck, shifting on his feet.

“So, umm… would, would you like to go out, go on a date with me?” Bucky was so nervous to ask that, and hoped that she’d say yes.

Though she stood there, silent. He looked at her, she had a shocked expression. It made a pit in his stomach form, he didn't know that he could handle being rejected right now. His heart raced as he waited for her to answer. He was extremely emotionally on edge, and didn’t look away from her for a second. He noticed her start to fidget more, which didn’t help his nerves one bit.

Minutes ticked by and all she’d say was ‘um’, over and over. Bucky was so on edge, it was starting to show on his face. His face creased in worry and uncertainty. His heart pounding so loud he swore she could hear it. It was actually starting to hurt.

They continued to stand there in silence, both too nervous to speak. Le’Renn not looking at him at all, looking everywhere but his eyes. Which only made Bucky’s uneasiness worse. Both fidgeting, tapping toes, picking skin, playing with hair. The tension was palpable. Le’Renn Then pulled at her shirt, and Bucky noticed little sweat spots. He felt bad that she was so nervous, but he didn’t know what to say to ease her, or himself.

“Umm… sure, I guess,” she spoke, but with uncertainty.

‘She answered, finally,’ he thought, though he was so afraid shed reject him that he didn’t actually hear what she said.

He sighed, “oh, okay.”

Bucky’s face fell solemn, his heart breaking a bit. He felt terrible, his heart aching. He shoved his hands in his pockets, shoulders slumped a bit. He then turned away slowly. He just wanted to go, he didn’t want to see her face anymore. He wanted to go mope around his apartment. He didn’t want her to see how hurt he was. Didn’t want her to see any tears.

Though right as he took a step she spoke.

“Wait! I said yes,” her voice a little strained, afraid he changed his mind.

Her words rang through Bucky’s head, over and over, like a mantra. ‘She said yes!’ He thought, his mind on overdrive. His heart pounding once more, leaping into his throat. His breath quick and uneven. He ever so slowly turned around to face her again, not fully believing what she said.

“Wha… what?”

Le’Renn nodded, and it was like fireworks erupted inside Bucky. He didn't even know what emotion to feel at the moment. He just had to hold himself back from picking her up and hugging her tight. Never letting her go. He didn’t even know why he had the urge to do so. Though the urge was very strong, he didn’t put it into action.

“You, you will?”

Bucky still didn’t quite believe it. She actually said yes to a date with him. He felt like a teenager again, when he first asked out a girl. It was terrible though the girl didn’t mind. But having Le’Renn say yes to a date, was absolutely amazing in Bucky’s mind.
