Bucky's vibranium knuckles rapped harshly against the solid wood of Sam's motel door.
After a pause, the door opened a crack. Sam's face appeared in the sliver.
"What's the password?"
"Moron."
The door swung open, revealing Sam's unamused expression.
"Good to see ya buddy." Bucky greeted, slapping Sam on the shoulder and sliding past him into the dimly lit room. He looked around. Sam's motel room was considerably neater than his. He had to look carefully to even find evidence that Sam had been staying there. His eyes spotted a green hoodie half-folded on the bleakly colored comforter, and beyond that, a metal wristwatch gleamed in the dingy yellow light of the rusted lamp on the nightstand.
"You sleeping much these days?"
Bucky turned at the question and found Sam studying him.
He fidgeted. Shrugged. "Alright."
Sam seated himself on the edge of the bed, pulling on his shoes.
"Still having nightmares?"
Bucky ran his finger down a discolored stripe on the off-white wall.
"You said Rhodey had something for us?" he asked, turning to Sam, who held his gaze for a beat then returned to tying his shoes.
"Yeah. you ever heard of White Dragon?"
Bucky's skin prickled and he felt a deep ache begin behind his eyes. He felt himself shaking his head vaguely.
"Didn't think so. Dude's a ghost. He's been connected to HYDRA, or rather, keeping an eye on HYDRA's super soldier shit for a while now, but only just popped up on our radar. He's pretty elusive."
Bucky rubbed at his head and tried to focus. He nodded. Sam continued.
"Our radar picked up some unusual activity over in Southwest Arizona, near some power plant. There's been some weird radio interference our team's been getting. They think it's him. They want us to go check it out."
Bucky unclenched hands that he had unknowlingly balled into fists.
"Great. If I never deal with Hydra again it'd be too fucking soon."
Sam stood up and faced Bucky. "There's one more thing."
Bucky looked up at him.
"John Walker. He'll be backing us up."
"What?"
"I know, man. I already put up a fight but it's not up to us."
Bucky groaned and ran his hands over his face. "I thought we were done with that asshole."
"I know. Listen, it's above me, man. Rhodey couldn't help it either. Someone else's call I guess. We're just gonna have to suck it up."
Bucky gritted his teeth and ran his hands through his hair.
"Fine. But if he talks to me, I'll punch him." he muttered.
"I won't stop you."
