All Electro needed was the first few notes of a piano on the radio, and with a lick of his lips, drawing attention to his smart mouth and in a slurred shout, “OH MY GOD! I LOVE this song!”
Montana wanted to damn him, damn the younger man to hell. It had started as all their nights off together started, with a beer or two, then two beers turned to three, then three beers and a shot turned to a few shots turned to getting sloshed on a work night. Work was the furthest thing from his mind. They at least had enough mind to close the bar and send the staff home before their drinking began. Montana would take all the silver lining he could get.
Oh Montana wanted to damn Electro to hell, not just for the theft of his hat that got unceremoniously snatched from his head far too quickly for someone whose blood alcohol has got to be more than 0.12, not even for climbing up on one of his tables and deciding that was the best dance floor ever, but for how good he looked doing it.
He also wanted to damn the radio station for deciding it was a great idea to play Great Balls of Fire at that exact moment.
“You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain!”
That flippy feeling in his stomach got stronger when Electro did a whirl to point directly at Montana. Montana’s hat fit crookedly on the drunk man's head. Electric blue eyes lit his nerves on fire,
“Too much love drives a man insane!”
Electro made a crazy gesture at his temple. The shitty yellow lights of the bar mixed with the red and green stage lights back lit Electro like a stained glass window. It made Montana bite his lip and resist the urge to pull his hair out.
“You broke my will,”
He did a little up and down shimmy with his shoulders in time with the music. Montana felt himself move his body in time.
“But what a thrill!”
He did a similar shimmy but this time with his hips. Montana felt his heart jump at the action.
“Goodness Gracious, great balls of fire!”
Electro spun around and moved himself from side to side, one hand on Montana’s hat, the other running down his side. Montana swallowed hard. He got up and danced loosely, never taking his eyes off Electro. He smiled, goofy at Montana, tongue sticking out through sharp teeth a little.
“I laughed at love ‘cause I thought it was funny!”
He kept singing along, slurring his words and taking liberties with the notes; but it worked, god did it work. Montana felt hot and light headed all the sudden. He decided to sing along.
“You came along and you moved me honey!”
He winked at Montana, then began to cackle vindictively, it took Montana a second to realize his voice cracked at the word ‘moved’. He liked watching Electro laugh so hard he doubled over, even if it was at his expense, Montana laughed too.
Montana felt tears in his eyes and had to clutch his abdomen from laughing so hard. They're well toward the end of the song before Electro looked back up at him still giggling, pretty blue eyes still trained on Montana. He adored having Electros full attention.
If Electro had asked him he would have blamed his flushed and red face on the alcohol and his heavy breathing on being a smoker, the last thing he remembered was helping Electro off the table, wrapping his arm around Electros waist to prevent the inebriated man from falling flat on his face as the song fading out into another he didn't know.
That morning Montana woke up with a splitting headache and a new favorite song.
