Meeting the Family
Triggers: Canon typical violence
Ties into: May - Mission Fic
Gabriel had know that it was only a matter of time before his sudden request for solo hunts drew enough attention from his brothers for them to corner him and demand answers. It wasn't as if he'd never hunted solo before his run in with the Djinn and meeting Dean, but more often than not he preferred to work with one of his brothers or another hunter they trusted. However since he'd started traveling with Dean; though the other was mostly in his invisible ghost form; he'd stopped requesting help and even started doing his own research per Dean's insistence and keeping a journal of his hunts for future use. What he hadn't counted on was his brothers barging into his room in the wee hours of the morning demanding all the answers to all of their questions.
"It had been be world ending for you three to be interrupting my beauty sleep." He grumbled as he sat up and rubbed at his eyes.
"My God Gabriel, cover up." His brother Michael huffed as he turned away.
"It's my room Mikey, if I want to sleep in the nude then I will." He replied cheekily even though he did pull a cover up over his lower half. "What can I do for you three since apparently sleep is not one of my options?" He asked on a yawn.
"We're worried about you Gabriel." His younger brother Castiel said as he stepped forward.
"Worried? About what?"
"You're only doing solo hunts now and a few of our mutual acquaintances have passed on a few too many concerning reports about what's being said about you in the field."
"Like what?" Gabriel's lips pulled into a frown as he straightened up just a bit more in his bed.
"Like you single-handedly wiping out a Vamps nest of 10; which while is bad ass; but you know that it's safer for two or more for a nest that size." Lucifer cut in; his voice sounding begrudgingly awed.
"It's quite easy as long as you plan correctly."
"And that! You?! Plan?" Michael cut back in. "You don't plan."
Gabriel narrowed his eyes but stayed silent, a small burst of warmth on his chest reminding him of Dean's presence in the amulet and he subconsciously gripped it loosely as he took a few calming breaths. When he opened his eyes again he seen his brothers staring at him as if he'd grown another head and the urge to snap at them started to rise again.
"You've changed Gabriel and I'm starting to think it's because of that necklace. It's cursed.." Michael said as he took a step closer towards the bed.
"It's not cursed." Gabriel bit out as he tightened his hold on the amulet.
"Gabriel I've tried to research it but there's nothing on any pendant shaped like that anywhere in any lore." Castiel said; his voice patronizing as he if were speaking to child. "And your demeanor has changed; it can only be a cursed object."
"Or he's possessed." Lucifer tossed out unhelpfully.
Against his palm the amulet warmed again and Gabriel didn't need to guess that Dean was now getting angry as well. He was about to speak again when he felt the temperature drop and he just smiled as the lights began to flicker before going out completely for a few moments then returning.
"What the fuck?!"
"What the fuck is that!"
"Gabriel! Stay still!"
The mixture of his brothers reactions caused him to only roll his eyes before he turned slightly to see that Dean had materialized besides the bed; his face set in a scowl as he stared at the other three men.
"Relax. Deano won't hurt you." He said before tilting his head and looking at Dean. "Will you?"
"Would you like me too?" He asked as he a step towards the other three.
"No. They're assholes, but they're my assholes." Gabriel snorted before waving towards the three. "Dean these are my brothers. Lucifer, Michael, and Castiel. Boys this handsome hunk of ectoplasam is Dean Winchester."
"Ectoplasam...as in..." Castiel began.
"Ghost. Spirit. Mortal coil free." Dean rolled a shoulder nonchalantly though it was easy to see he was on guard.
"So you are possessed."
Lucifer's words were a statement and before either Gabriel or Dean could reply he drew his gun and fired. The sound of the gun muffled everyone's surprised noises and when Gabriel opened his eyes Dean was gone.
"What the fuck did you do?" He demanded.
"Jesus I hate salt rounds. The fucking sting." Dean complained as he flickered back in all while glaring at Lucifer as he did so. "I'm not possessing him. He's got my necklace, I'm tied to it. I was killed by a Djinn...the same one that tried to off him as a matter of fact. Gabe brought me along after. And two hunters; even if one is incorporeal; is better than one."
"You're a hunter? Or were a hunter?" Michael asked suspiciously.
"Sure was. Father was John Winchester; since deceased by way of Demon. My brother left the life but I kept going. Saving people and hunting things was what I was good at. And seeing as how I'm stuck here, I might was well be helpful."
"Why not just have Gabriel just melt the necklace and set you free?" Castiel asked; his tone much more inquisitive and friendlier than either Michael's or Lucifer's.
"If I was meant to go over I would have done so already but I didn't. So I must have something left to do."
"So you're just gonna hang out here?" Lucifer asked as he holstered his gun again.
"Well with Gabe at least." Dean said as he looked over his shoulder with a grin before he suddenly flickered out.
"Does, uh, he do that often?" Michael asked as he looked around the room as if waiting for him to reappear.
"Sometimes when he's used too much of his ghost juice. Ghosts apparently have limited batteries for appearances." The amulet warmed against his chest and Gabriel gave it a small squeeze before yawning loudly and looking pointedly at his brothers. "Now if you all don't mind, I need my 9 hours and Dean would like to do....whatever it is ghosts do when they aren't ghosting."
Grumbling and muttered curses followed his brothers out of the room and he grinned as he settled back down into bed.
"All things considered that could have gone a lot worse."
A pillow thumped him in his head and he laughed as he drifted back off to sleep.
