He opened his eyes and the first thing that hit him was the first few rays of the lazy sun escaping through the blinds.

All he could feel was the woman next to him, her face nestled close to his neck, her breathing steady, her limbs tangled around his body, clinging to the sense of comfort the man was radiating. Their bodies were pressed together and that created a comforting warmth in the cold summer morning. He felt a piece of her hair tickling his jaw, and he looked down at her lazy curls, casting a beautiful brown rainbow on his pillows, her tangles warming the sides of his neck. His mouth curled up in a small smile, fixing that piece of hair and putting it behind her ear, hoping the small gesture wouldn’t come to wake her.

He grunted, his eyes glancing at the clock to see the time. 6:07 am. Still plenty of time to sleep. Besides, it was a Saturday morning. They wouldn’t have to hurry to work, hurry anywhere, still leaving plenty of time to stay in their own little world, all safe next to one another.

His head moved a bit further from hers, wanting to observe the woman sleeping oh so safely next to him.

It was like as if she had dropped the weight of the world off her shoulders, her features as relaxed as he barely sees them when she’s awake. She was as beautiful as the rising sun, its rays barely peeking over a green field, painting the sky a mix of golden yellow and purple. Her chest rising and falling slowly, a small exhale leaving her slightly parted lips each time she breathed. She looked so at ease, and he smiled at the thought of him maybe, most likely having a small part in that.

He noticed a small eyelash on her cheek and he slowly lifted his hand to brush it away, grazing her soft skin as he did so. As he was about to place his head back next to hers, he felt her body shift slightly, her head finding its way back on his collarbone.

A soft sigh escaped her lips as she nestled closer to absorb his warmth, and his left hand found its way onto her back, tracing small circles on it and as he did so, she hummed in response, barely awake, but aware enough to soak up his touch.

"Good morning," he whispered, his voice low and rough from sleep.

"Too early," she murmured, her body shuffling in a way to press her face closer into his neck to place a soft, sleepy kiss onto his skin.

"Too early for what?" he chuckled, his fingers running up and down her spine as if coaxing her back to sleep.

"Talking. Thinking. Existing," she whispered, her words muffled against his skin and she hummed as his hand slipped into her hair, massaging her head gently, her breathing becoming slow and steady again as she was falling right back asleep.

He let out a quiet laugh, his chest rising and falling beneath her as he continued running his fingers through her hair. The softness of it, the way she instinctively leaned into his touch—it was something he’d never get tired of. He pressed a kiss on the top of her head, letting his chin rest on her soft hair.

He started feeling his own eyelids get heavier and he pulled the cover a little higher on her shoulders, so the warmth could absorb them both completely, and he began drifting back to sleep, knowing that wherever she was, was exactly where he wanted to be.
