Broadway - a mcu fic
(SET IN 2012, PETE TAKES PLACE OF THE MAGNIFICENT AND WONDERFUL JEREMY JORDAN JUST IN THIS FIC)
It was a dreary Friday afternoon, the midtown high decathlon team was sitting in their practice room finishing up their after-school practice. Everyone was in attendance apart from one person, our resident spider - Peter was not there. Flash was having a wonderful time shit talking Peter and about “how they should just kick him out of the decathlon group already if he wont show up.”
Mr Harrington, the teacher in charge of the decathlon team cleared his throat, cutting flash off mid-rant. “Alright everyone listening please! Because we won state at the end of last term, we have all been given tickets to see a performance of newsies in their opening week on broadway!”
The room erupted into cheers, newsies was making headlines and they had only started their run on monday, so many people raving about how wonderful the show was, naturally everyone was super excited to see it. Mr Harrington continued “as tomorrow is saturday, we will be watching the matinee show, so i would like to see everyone outside the theatre at 5.30, the show starts at 6, don’t be late or you won’t be let in!”
Everyone was handed their ticket as they left, no one noticing that they had the right number, for the people who were in the room that day, no ticket for peter…
Saturday 5.30pm
The whole decathlon team was gathered exactly where Mr Harrington had instructed the day prior. Only once everyone was there did they realise Peter was not there. Flash immediately went on about “well he never shows up so i guess he wasn’t important enough to get a ticket.” with a smug smile on his face. To the surprise of everyone, both Ned and MJ stayed silent, both wanting to see how the night would play out.
The decathlon team headed inside and got into their seats, chatting lightly amongst each other, no one took notice of the name on the front of the playbill, nor did they notice the face on all of the posters.
The lights dimmed and the curtains came up, the first song santa fe (prologue) started and who was singing? Well their classmate Peter! Peter who skipped decathlon practice this entire week, that peter! That peter who has such a gorgeous voice that none of them (apart from ned and mj of course) knew about. Flash was sitting in his chair gobsmacked, jaw seemingly unhinged from his face. No one's eyes strayed from the stage for the whole of the first act. Peter was dancing with rigour no one knew he had, jumping like he had been classically trained from infancy, his tenor voice crisp and beautiful. His chemistry with the whole cast was insane, during I never planned on you/don’t come knocking it seemed like he was really in love with his katherine.
When it came time for Santa Fe, everyone was blown away completely by the raw emotion in his voice. Even flash’s eyes were brimming with unshed tears.
