Summary
Dance Club Scene: Had to wonder after re-watching a few times, why Morph was not there after finding Roberto. Or rather why, there was an impromptu exit with nothing after to explain Morph’s sudden absence. Sure, Morph could be anyone but there might be a different one. A simpler one. Sure, could be out back, wrapping up whooping those FOH scum, and even dealing with talking with the cops or whatever. Nah, they ran Wolverine said as soon as they showed up, so it was something else. Also, the leadup, to what probably happened to get there, to the dance club. Oh, and mad props to Some Dull Scissors, for their version ending it out where it started, and the lead up, before ending their story.

Morph’s Lament And Comfort.

Morph’s Lament And Comfort.

So, here they were, dragging their heels about it, hesitant about it, to go get ready to leave off on a ‘rescue mission’ oh well, guess the day was shot, maybe the night won’t be so bad.  Could screw around for a little while, say they tried their best to find the kid, they would at least try to find the kid.  But no doughtily, not before blowing off a good part of the day.  To have some fun, away from Summers.  And if they did find him, bonus!  Morph sat on their bed, prayed quietly, then nodded, getting up and took what they thought they would need for the mission.  However, it did not mean, they were happy about it.  Or rather how it came to this point.  Conniving telepath, Jean had to get all up into Wolvie’s mind with just one look, to ‘make him see reason’ and he goes all soft for her, because, yeah, he loves her and would do any and everything for her, she asks him to do, because she has his balls right where she wants them, and knows how to squeeze them.  Groan sighing loudly shaking his head.  “Ugh, get those thoughts out of your head.”  What I wouldn’t give for one shot, just to…  Don’t bother, not worth risking your friendship, over a bit of jealousy, Morph, not one bit.  The positive side, look at the positive side, what’s the positive side here?  Well at least on the up side, if this all works out, Jubilee will at least finally have someone around her own age to hang out with.  Yeah, let’s do this for Jubilee, and the new kid Roberto, whatever he looks like.  After all, it’s our sworn duty to help and protect mutants.  There, now I’m ready.  There was a knock on the door, a heavy one, so Morph was sure.  “You can come in, Logan, if that’s you.  I’m decent.”

Already in their public face, but Logan didn’t think going back to looking like they used to, was it, it must be something else.  Morph had been struggling with their identity and with gender identity, so shifting back to that face, might be a bit hard for the kid, to take.  Deciding on going to their neutral or rather, true form was his/their way of coping at times.  Or at the very least, telling the others, what pronouns or sex they were today, or for the time being.  “It is.  I was wondering what was taking you so long.  I overheard you talking to yourself.  You, okay?”  Oh, shit, I know what’s wrong with him, Sinister, thoughts, damn it.

“Yeah, just, thoughts I didn’t want in my head.”  Logan looks at him, concerned.  “Not the thoughts you’re thinking of, I’m thinking about.”

“All right, I got your back if you need to talk about your problems.  Been through some of the same, so I know what it’s like.  I may not be good with words, at times, but I’m a good listener.  Let me know, at anytime, if you’re not ready, or can’t handle it, or anything, just, you know.  Don’t care what Cyke said, you don’t apply, if you still feel you ain’t ready yet, or things feel not right, and you want to skip out on certain missions.  I know you have been wanting to integrate back in full time, but you also skip out on a lot of missions, if you don’t feel up to it.”

“It’s not just that, I pray about it, before I go,” he says sitting back down on his bed.  “So, I know, if I should go or not.  So, if I get that nudge and or a gut feeling, something is not right or off, I will sit it out, or I hear a simple, No, I won’t go, or, Yes, I will go.”

“Got good instincts, refusing to go on that last one to rescue the kid.  From what I heard from the debrief, you might have panicked at seeing that Sentinel hand, and freeze again, or got a bit freaked out, if you saw it, or worse.”  Morph nodded they knew he knew, they might panic a bit.  “How you feeling about this one?  So, what’s your instincts and the Man Upstairs telling you to do on this one?”

“I’ll be fine, just there might be something there that might panic me for a short while, but once it gets sorted out, I’ll be just fine.  Can even enjoy this mission after.”

“Good.  Stuff like that I need to know and hear from you, to be ready for it.  Call it now, if you want your usual seat in my Jeep.

“Passenger side?”

“Yup.  So, you gonna call it or what?”

With a smirk, “Shotgun.”

“And you’d better, keep it, until we get back, considering the lead we got from Jubilee, where the rich kid may have taken off to.  Sensory overload, for me, if I don’t have you nearby to deal with it.”

“Oh?  Sure, I’ll help you in any way I can.  But, how am I supposed to help you; make you laugh, to distract you from the sensory overload?”

“No, well, sure, but, no, just stick by me close.”

“Not too close, I’m stinky.  Don’t suppose I have enough time for a quick shower?  Or at least get a layer of deodorant on.”

“Don’t you dare, it can wait till we get back, you smell nice.”

“I’m sweaty, if anything….”

“Nah, that’s the thing, it’s better, the stronger your smell, or ‘so-called’ stink, the better for me.  Not only will it help me find you easier, if you get lost in the crowds of people, or try to, I can find you, especially if you get into trouble.  Truth is, I really love your scent, your personal scent is relaxing for me, it’s, sigh, when my nose gets overwhelmed, it’s nice to have something to calm things down, you know.  Your scent does that for me.”

“Really?  Huh.  What do I smell like to you?”

Inhale sniffing deeply, and sighing, mellowing out already, “You got three distinct smells that make up your unique smell.”

“Really, what are they, can you describe them, to me?”

“Yeah, I can.  Ever find clay like the kind you might find in a nice clean lake or river or stream?”

“Got a lot of those back in Pittsburgh.”

“Yeah?  It’s the kind of clay you might find by accident, that makes you want to play with it, because it doesn’t have that nasty swampy stink smell to it.  The kind that’s nice and smells like it should.  The kind that smells pure and natural.”

“The kind you’d want to take a mud bath, or rather clay bath in?”

“Yeah, or play in for hours, because you know it’s good for you, full of minerals and all that, cause it’s natural.  Then, there’s the smell you smell after there’s a huge downpour, and the thunder and lightning to go with it, lots of it.  You know that fresh smell you get at the end of a good thunderstorm, that fresh clean smell, like the air has been naturally purified.  Then there’s the smell of snow in the wintertime, before it starts, you may hardly see the clouds yet for it, but you can smell that it’s coming in the air.  That’s your smell, all three of them combined in one, to make your smell.  I’ll always know it’s you.  No matter what you look or sound like.”

Choking out a bit of a happy sob, and hugging the big guy tightly.  “I didn’t know I smelled like that.”

“Yeah, you do.  Oh, you’re all right, you’ll be all right,” gently drying Morph’s tears, and giving the silly guy a long hug.

“I like getting hugs from you, makes me feel so safe, and happy, and warm, because you’re my happy spot.”

“Glad I can help your mental health journey by being your happy safe spot you can go to.  If you’re ever feeling like you need a hug, you don’t even have to ask, just go for it.”

“Be warned, I will take you up on that.  I love to hug, I was one of those babies who loved to be held, and cuddled.  So, you know where we’re headed?”

“Mmhmm, and knowing you, you’re not gonna be changing into something a bit more fitting, since apparently we’re going clubbing.”

Side-eyes smirk, “If I need to change, I’ll change into something more appropriate, when we get to the club.  Besides this is a rescue mission from teenage stupidity, might as well dress for the occasion,” giggles Morph.

Chuckling as well.  “All right.  Since it’s a dance club, probably means they got a bar there.”

“Yippie!  I’ll buy you the first round.”
