First Impressions Cut Deep

The morning air at Piltover High was crisp and filled with chatter as students poured through the gates. You trudged along the crowded hallways, gripping your books tightly, determined to make it through the day without any more awkward encounters.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans.

“Hey, newbie!” Jinx’s voice rang out, cutting through the noise like a knife.

You turned, spotting her leaning casually against the lockers. Her long blue braids fell over her shoulders, and her wide, mischievous grin told you trouble was coming. Beside her, Ekko looked amused, his skateboard balanced under one arm.

“You’ve been here for, what, a day?” Jinx asked, pushing off the lockers and walking toward you. “Made any enemies yet? Or are you still in the ‘trying-to-make-friends’ phase?”

“I’m just trying to survive,” you said cautiously.

“Boring,” Jinx replied with a pout. “You’re not gonna last long if that’s your plan. You’ve gotta pick a side, Y/N. That’s how it works here.”

Before you could reply, a voice cut through the tension.

“Jinx, knock it off.”

You turned to see Vi approaching, her pink hair catching the light as she strode down the hallway. She was everything Jinx wasn’t—calm, grounded, and somehow commanding respect without even trying.

“Aw, come on, sis,” Jinx said, tossing one of her braids over her shoulder. “I’m just having some fun with the newbie.”

“Don’t call me that,” Vi said sharply, her tone leaving no room for argument. She turned to you and nodded. “You okay?”

You nodded, a bit stunned by how different the two sisters were.

“See? No harm done,” Jinx said, giving Vi a mocking salute. “Catch you later, lamb.”

With that, she sauntered off, Ekko following with a shrug and a knowing grin.

“You’ll get used to her,” Vi said, watching Jinx disappear into the crowd. “She’s not as bad as she pretends to be.”

“I’ll take your word for it,” you said, still unsure if you believed her.

Chemistry Class

You slid into your seat beside Viktor, who was already scribbling equations into his notebook. The moment you sat down, he glanced at you and said, “You look… unsettled.”

“Jinx,” you replied simply.

He nodded knowingly. “Ah. She has that effect on people.”

“Any advice?” you asked, hoping his calm demeanor would come with some wisdom.

“Don’t engage,” Viktor said. “She thrives on chaos. The less you react, the less fun it is for her.”

“That’s easier said than done,” you muttered.

Viktor gave a faint smile. “You’ll learn.”

Lunchtime Wars

The cafeteria was a battlefield of overlapping conversations, clattering trays, and territorial table claims. You found yourself wandering again, tray in hand, until Caitlyn waved you over.

“Saved you a spot,” she said, gesturing to the seat beside her.

“Thanks,” you said, relieved.

Vi was already there, halfway through a sandwich. Jayce was explaining something animatedly to Mel, who sat across from him. Despite their conversation, Vi noticed your arrival and greeted you with a small nod.

“You survived Jinx this morning,” Caitlyn said, breaking your thoughts.

“Barely,” you admitted.

Vi snorted. “Let me guess—she tried to rope you into some kind of chaos?”

“She called me a lamb and told me to pick a side.”

Vi rolled her eyes. “Classic Jinx. She’s always stirring things up just to see what happens.”

“Best advice?” Caitlyn said. “Ignore her.”

“Worst advice,” Vi countered. “Stand your ground. Otherwise, she’ll keep coming back.”

“Great. Two completely opposite strategies,” you muttered.

Jayce looked up from his conversation with Mel, catching the tail end of your discussion. “Don’t overthink it,” he said. “Jinx is harmless—mostly.”

“Mostly?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Well…” Jayce hesitated. “Just don’t let her get you into trouble. She’s got a way of dragging people into her messes.”

The Courtyard Incident

By the time the last bell rang, you were ready to collapse. As you stepped outside into the courtyard, you saw Jinx perched on a low wall, tossing a coin in the air. Ekko was beside her, watching with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.

You tried to slip past unnoticed, but Jinx’s sharp eyes caught you immediately.

“Hey, lamb!” she called out, jumping down from the wall. “Where you off to in such a hurry?”

“I have somewhere to be,” you said, trying to keep your voice steady.

“Where? Study group? Detention? Or maybe…” She leaned in closer, lowering her voice. “Running away from me?”

“Leave them alone, Jinx,” Ekko said, stepping between you.

But Jinx wasn’t done. “You know, Y/N, you’re kind of a mystery. New kid, quiet, trying to blend in. That’s not gonna work here. You’ve gotta make some noise if you wanna survive.”

“I think I’m doing just fine,” you said, your patience wearing thin.

Jinx’s grin widened. “Oh, I like you. You’ve got some bite.”

Before you could respond, a sharp whistle cut through the air. Vi was walking toward you, her expression unreadable but her pace deliberate.

“Problem here?” Vi asked, her tone casual but carrying an edge.

“No problem,” Jinx said, throwing up her hands in mock surrender. “Just making friends.”

Vi shot her sister a look. “Go make friends somewhere else.”

Jinx smirked but didn’t argue, retreating with Ekko in tow.

Vi turned to you, her expression softening. “Don’t let her get to you. She’s all bark.”

“Are you sure?” you asked, glancing at Jinx’s retreating figure.

“She’s my sister,” Vi said with a shrug. “Trust me, I’ve seen worse.”

With that, she walked off, leaving you to wonder just how complicated things between the two of them really were.
