Chapter 38
Everyone should be able to agree Shisui was allowed to have the existential crisis he was in the middle of.
The love of his life, his secret girlfriend- keyword secret- straight up kissed him in front of her dad.
The Hokage.
Konoha no Kiiro Senko.
(And in front of most of the shinobi council but that was a moot point.)
What?!
Said secret-not-secret girlfriend teleported them to her apartment, where she began to make them tea.
As if she hadn't just signed his death warrant.
Shisui wasn't angry, nor was he upset. He feared for his life.
Sure, he wanted the whole of fucking Konoha to know he was with Naruto; however, the issue with today was the execution.
He would have been gentle about it.
Naruto was anything but gentle and didn't like anything gentle either.
He didn't know how long he had been standing there; he just knew it was long enough for Naruto to have made tea for them and served it as well as got him to sit in the sofa
"What just happened?" He looked at the tea on the table. He noted there were three cups however before she could reply or for him to ask why there was a flash of yellow in the room and Shisui idly wondered if that was going to be the last thing he was going to see before being met by the shinigami.
Minato Namikaze looked furious. His usually cool, calm and collected features were screwed and bunched up as he stared at his daughter and Shisui.
"Do you know how much trouble you're in, young lady?" He asked through gritted teeth, and Naruto quirked a brow
"You realise I'm closer to your age than I look, right? Also, how can I possibly be in trouble?" She asked innocently; however, her eyes gleaned dangerously, daring Minato to continue and he did
"That stunt in my office?"
Naruto got comfier on the sofa, leaning her legs over Shisuis lap and he instinctively began to massage it.
"Stunt? All I did was kiss my boyfriend." Shisui didn't get how she was so calm right now. Then he remembered she had seen Madara Uchiha and saw Kyuubi regularly. Minato probably looked like a puppy in comparison in her mind.
"You-" however before Minato could finish she interjected
"I addressed to you and the whole shinobi council as to whether or not I could come out with my relationship and I was told yes. Everyone agreed. No one had any issues except perhaps the elders. So what seems to be the problem?"
"Shisui Uchiha?!"
Shisui refused to flinch at the loud yell of the Hokage's voice however his finger did twitch
"Yes. He's my boyfriend."
Minato rubbed his hands down his face, "Our of everyone in Konoha- the whole five nations, why did it have to be an Uchiha?" He groaned, and Shisui frowned. He was under the impression that Minato liked him
"Is there a problem with him being an Uchiha?" She asked, and he could hear that she was genuinely confused.
Minato sighed, naruto may have once been a Kage and was excellent at so many things, yet sometimes she had her shortcomings. How she had been raised was clearly at fault for her not grasping the problem yet. "The Uchiha clan have already seen so many changes that it could lead to a conflict."
Naruto nodded, and Shisui felt his stomach drop, "What do you prefer Minato, a coup de tat which leads to the massacre of the Uchiha clan, diminishing our numbers or a few extra pieces of paperwork?"
Minato looked surprised for a moment before reverting to his usual stoic look. "You should know the answer to that."
Smiling, Naruto put down her empty cup which Shisui didn't recall her holding and got up stretching. Shisui noted that she had a low back which was on display since her mesh vest was also low in the back. "Well then, now that's settled. I believe we have a date to be going on," she said to the dark-haired teen, grinning wide as if she had received her birthday present.
He wasn't sure where he got the strength to, but he managed to pull himself up, bow slightly to the Hokage and took hold of naruto's waist then shunshined out of her apartment a few times till they arrived on a roof near the shopping and food district.
"Did you have something planned for today naruto or are we going to wing it?" He asked as he raised his hand to brush against her side, chuckling when she flinched. She was so ticklish.
"Of course I have the date planned out! I may like surprises, but you deserve something planned out and strategised." She nodded her head as if she had said some sage worthy knowledge that should be engraved into stone and to naruto, that was possible.
"Now enough time-wasting. It's already midday, and we have places to be!" She took hold of his wrist and teleported them to the shodai's garden? It looked like it at least.
"Are we at the shodai's garden?" No Uchiha had ever been granted access to this place, for an apparent reason, so he looked on in awe at all the flowers and trees.
There was a very public forest made by the shodai for people to walk through. However, that didn't compare to the beauty of this garden. There were several different types of trees, herbal plants, flowers, and what looked to be poisonous plants as well, which held their beauty. The trees were more extensive than those of the Forest of Death and varied in shades of green, yellow, orange, pink, red and so much more. Looking a bit closer, he was sure he recognised some plants which glow in the dark, but their names escaped him.
Shisui wasn't sure how long he spent staring at the garden, but he did notice it was a while so when he turned around to face Naruto he was surprised to see a small smile on her lips.
His heart skipped a beat looking at her, "What's got you so happy?" it was rare for her to have such a small heartfelt smile.
She shrugged her shoulders, causing his gaze to move over to the smooth skin, "You look happy." he wondered what that had to do with anything when he recalled that due to family and clan stress he had been feeling down, even with Naruto. He thought he had done an excellent job hiding his sadness, but that appears not to be the case.
Straightening up, he went over to her. Raising a hand, he gently caressed the sides of her face, moving a small lock of hair behind her ear. "What did you have planned for today?" he asked, recalling her words from a short while ago about a plan for today.
Her gentle smile became far more vibrant a second later as she held onto his hand, leading him down the path. "We've got to go further in. But there's a small spherical pavilion that the nidaime built for the shodai where we'll be eating lunch. Then we're going for dessert at Chouza's sister-in-law's cafe." he let out a nervous chuckle at the end, realising he was being led to a place built by a man who hated his clan in a garden his family wasn't allowed within.
When they reached there, Shisui was in awe. The pavilion was more of a semi-sphere, but he didn't correct Naruto's initial description, as she had redecorated it to give it a more modern vibe. He also noted that it was lit by LED lights. Overall, it trumped all dates the world had ever seen even if Shisui had not been to many before.
They ate their food in peace with their usual talk between them. Minus the over-the-top scenery, Naruto seemed to have gone for something simple which Shisui could highly appreciate.
Once lunch was over, Naruto led the couple to the before promised cafe and Shisui was nervous, but he didn't know why. When they entered the cafe, he realised why. Naruto had chosen the one place most of their friends were eating at. He looked over at his girlfriend, who had a shit-eating grin on her face. It would seem despite her technical age, and she still liked playing pranks.
Naruto held onto his hand and took them to the table their group was at, "Hey guys, sorry we're late."
Genma looked up and let out a wolf whistle, "Is your outfit your form of a proper apology because apology accepted." He let his gaze wander but never lingered anywhere for too long, so he was behaving.
"Behave Genma, or I'm tattling to Raido," she smirked as the couple took their seats next to Anko and Iruka.
"Raido is already aware." spoke a dry voice behind them and no one needed to turn around to see it was the man in question.
"Just in time Raido, Shisui and Naruto just got here so now we can order in peace!" spoke Iruka, casting a short glance at the two of them before looking back at the menu.
The table consisted of Iruka, Anko, Raido, Genma, Naruto, Shisui, Kakashi, Ebisu, Gai, Asuma, Kurenai, Yugao, Izumo, Kotetsu, Hayate and oddly enough Yahiko.
"Are Konan and Nagato not coming?" Naruto asked the orange-haired boy who shook his head.
"Konan was unwell, and Nagato didn't want to leave her or the kids without someone that knew them all well. Sadly. Everyone was unavailable, so I cam here, and he stayed home." replied Yahiko and Naruto pouted.
"But he's gonna miss out on my surprise for everyone." she groaned, thinking of how she was going to tell them but figured Yahiko would say to them himself.
"So, why did you call us all out here last minute, blondie?" asked Anko as she was given a cup of sake. Naruto refrained from raising a brow, but she did want to know how the snake mistress was able to get alcohol in a cafe.
"Well..." she began, fully intending to be mysterious; however, she noted something last minute, "Wait, why isn't Rin here?" she asked.
Almost everyone's brow rose at that. It was Hayate that replied, "You do realise that since that drunken night of ours a few months back, she has been avoiding seeing you and Kakashi together right?"
She hadn't. She did notice that whenever Naruto was there, she wouldn't look the blonde in the eye and had understood why but she honestly hadn't noticed her not being there when the ex-couple were together.
Now that she thought about it, Kakashi was around her often, and she didn't recall seeing Rin around when he was there unless he was on ANBU duty near her, in which case she would be.
She shook her head, no point thinking about that now. "My surprise is..." she drawled, casting Shisui a side glance before shrugging. She leaned over to him and gave him a very PDA kiss in front of everyone, so there was no doubt about the intent.
She sat back in her seat with a satisfied smirk on her face. The gob-smacked looks on most of her friends as well as the blush on her boyfriend were worth it.
"WHAT?!" yelled majority of the table, causing her to grimace and cover her ears. Her sensitive hearing was a bitch sometimes.

Kushina had been enjoying her lunch, her elder children were at the academy, her younger ones were sleeping and she was finally able to have Mikoto over for lunch with her. Then her husband came.
Usually, that would make her day even better, however, the look on his face was saying something else. He wasn't happy. Not everyone would be able to tell but she could. She had known the man since they were preteens.
"What's wrong, Minato?" she asked, getting up and stroking his upper arm.
He looked Mikoto and Kushina one at a time then spoke, "Kushina, I believe you owe Mikoto money." he spoke in a dry voice.
Kushina furrowed her brows, what was he on about?
Behind her, Mikoto began to giggle, "Oh my. So I was right after all." Kushina could hear the smugness rolling off the matriarch in waves so she turned around and looked for an explanation, which Mikoto was happy to give. "It would seem Shisui was far better suited for Naruto than Kakashi considering she's with my lovely little clansman."
It took a moment for Kushina to register what her friend said and she slammed her hands against the table, "What the hell, 'tebane!"

Kakashi was looking at his book but not entirely reading it as he waited for Naruto to arrive. Shisui was at a clan meeting, so it was the best time to talk to her in private.
It didn't take the blonde long to meet up with him, and he could see the surprise in her eyes that he was early to their meeting, but it faded as soon as it got there.
She took a seat on the branch across him and smiled a little, clearly having enjoyed the previous day with her boyfriend. There was a slight pang in his chest as he thought about her relationship with the Uchiha, but there was nothing he could do about it. He had his chance and missed it. All he could do now was be happy that she was, which in turn made him happy, even if it wasn't with him.
"I'm going to cut to the chase Naruto. I only recalled a this while I was away on a mission with Shisui and my ANBU team however do you remember that night we all got drunk, and you said I was your first?" he could see confusion in her gaze as she slowly nodded to him. He put away his book and leaned against his knees, "That was a lie. I was never your first and didn't try that crap that Hozuki was either. We both know you hooked up with him a few days later."
"What does this have to do with anything?" she asked wearily, unsure where this conversation was going.
"I've had my suspicions for years, but I nothing to base this one. But this puts all the pieces together." she tilted her head to the side, and Kakashi could see that she was trying to feign ignorance. "Please excuse my lack of tact Naruto but... you were raped as a child weren't you?"
He expected anger, hurt, betrayal or some form of negative emotion to be coming off her, but instead, she just sighed tiredly and nodded her head. "Again, what does that have to do with anything?"
"Does Shisui know?"
Now she looked conflicted, "Yes and no." not sure what she meant but knowing he wasn't getting a better answer than that he moved on.
"Does he know that I'm... aware?" he spoke vaguely; however, Naruto knew what he was asking.
"No." Kakashi hadn't expected that he had assumed Shisui was faking being unaware.
"Why?" wow, Kakashi was reverting to his old one syllable self, and he didn't mind at all.
Naruto looked back at the village. They were perched in a high enough place where they were able to admire the sights of most of the village, so he wasn't sure if she was focusing on one single place. Not the Uchiha district as that was behind them. "He doesn't say it- no he'd never say it but... but I know... I know that he hates the fact we're close. That we had such an easy-going relationship for over two years, even if people didn't know about it. And again he doesn't say or show it, but he gets jealous by the mere mention of you. When he talks about our past relationship I hear the underlying tone of bitterness even if he doesn't know it." she wrapped a lock of hair around her finger and twirled it around as she paused. "I don't know how he'd react to knowing that I told you about most of my past voluntarily. With him, it was accidental- I chose to tell you."
Kakashi could understand that but, "How do you think he'd feel knowing you kept such a big secret from him when in regards to me?" he asked softly, tone quieter than what it had been before.
She let out a bitter chuckle, "Well... I'll burn that bridge when I get to it." burn that bridge- not cross it. She knows this isn't going to end well. He slowly nodded his head, if this was their fate then so be it. "Was there anything else?"
"Yes. Have you spoken to Rin?" when she hesitated a reply he carried on, "Why not? I haven't had the chance since she's avoiding me like the plague... has she been doing the same to you?"
"I haven't had time. Rin can deal with her emotions fine on her own." Naruto sounded callous, but he knew she had Rin's best interest at heart.
"Should we speak to her together?"
"Why are you mentioning this now? You've had months to discuss this with me. Why now?" she replied, clearly sounding agitated and put-off.
"I want to say duty and time kept me away, but we know I'd be lying. I was hoping this situation would blow over on its own, but it seems as if Rin can't get over the whole situation." Naruto grit her teeth as she nodded her head.
"I get that I'm technically the older person here; however, she doesn't know that. Does she need to act like a love-sick person?"
"uhh... maybe because she is a lovesick person?" he asked more than stated.
"That's beside the point 'tebayo! We've gotta go the next kage summit in a few days! She needs to suck it up and deal with it.!"
"How would you feel if you had to be around one of Shisui's ex's if he had any?" he asked, genuinely curious about her reaction.
She turned and looked at him confused, "Why the hell would I care about that? They're his ex's. What and who he did before we were dating is his own business. And besides! If Shisui can be all mature about it then I'm sure she can as well. It's not like you ever slept with her or led her on!" what had he been thinking? Of course, Naruto wouldn't care about such things. She didn't need to worry about them. "Life's too short to be moping about lost or failed love."
She would know, having seen their world at it's worst after-all."
"Was there anything else Kakashi?" He shook his head as a silent no, and she stood up, "In that case, I'll be off. The Uchiha meeting should be over soon, and Shisui's going to be grumpy as per usual." She smiled at him, and he felt his heart skip a beat. He mentally berated himself. He shouldn't feel this way about his comrade's girlfriend who was, in turn, his ex-girlfriend.
