Chapter 2
"Papa and then, Mr Potter talked about projects we are going to do!"
I just smiled at Scorpius, not really knowing what to say. We were home from Scorpius's school so now we were sitting with my mother, eating dinner. Harry Potter was the topic of discussion tonight. Harry Potter has been my enemy for six years and now he's teaching my son. Is this is way of getting revenge? Is he going to upset him? I sighed. Scorpius is everything I have right now in my life.
"I really like Albus, all of the other kids ignored me but Albus came up to me and we shook hands and-"
"You what?" I dropped my utensils. Oh Harry Potter is definitely planning something. A hand shake?! The whole thing that started our feud? I needed to have a long talk with Potter.
“Draco darling, maybe you should step out for just a second.”
Yes, I still live at Malfoy Manor with my mother. My father got the kiss about two years ago, tonight is the anniversary of his death which is why Potter and Potter couldn't come over.
I got up and walked away from the table. I instantly regretted it though.
"Is papa mad at me?" My heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces. He is too pure for this whole world.
"No darling he isn't mad! He just needs time to accept that you're turning into a big boy!" In times like these I am so glad to have my mother. My ex wife, Astoria Greengrass, passed away from a blood curse. I almost gave it all up, without Astoria I didn't know how to be a parent, that's when my mother suggested moving back in to have help with Scorpius. She has been amazing throughout this. She was lonely in this big house by herself but now she has a reason to wake up every morning. I decided to pull out my muggle phone and check the email sent by the school, just as I thought, it had phone numbers of teachers. I skimmed the names for Potter and when I finally found it, I copied the number and put it into my phone.
My hand was hovering over the call button, I was hesitating a bit. Maybe this is a conversation meant to be had face to face. What am I thinking? If I can’t even call him how am I supposed to talk to him about it in person. I rolled my eyes and pressed the call button.
It took a few moments for him to answer.
"H-hello? Harry Potter speaking."
"It's Malfoy."
"Oh! Malfoy, er, hi."
"Listen, Potter. If you're playing games with me and my son I'll have you-"
I heard giggles from the other side of the phone. It sounded like children.
"Papa why is he so angry?" Somebody asked on the other side of the line in between a fit of giggles. Then I heard Potter giggle.
"He's always like that Albus."
"I am not." I said, wanting to remind them that I'm still here.
"Okay Albus, go play with your brother I need some time to talk to Mr Malfoy."
"Okay papa."
I cleared my throat, ready to have a conversation, or even an argument with Potter.
"Malfoy, I'm gonna talk and you're gonna listen."
I stayed silent, surprised about the sudden commanding that was happening but ready to hear an explanation.
"I know what this seems like, but I had absolutely no idea who Scorpius was until he introduced himself. He is one of the sweetest boys I've ever met, he is so much different from his father. This is my first year there too and maybe for the sake of our kids, we can learn to be mates."
I was speechless. Be mates?! Mates? Me? Draco Malfoy. Be mates with Harry bloody Potter. But then I thought about Scorpius, his face when he talked to Albus. Kids never usually accept Scorpius since he has the Malfoy name. One time, a kid pushed him when he introduced himself, after that he hasn't had any new friends. Draco wasn't going to let anybody get in the way of his son's first friendship, not even himself. I will never be mates with him but I can at least try and be in the same room as him without hexing him.
"Okay Potter I suppose I can act civil for the sake of the children.”
I cringed hard after saying it.
"Okay, also about that play date, I literally think Albus is going to go crazy by weekend time. Do you think we can do it sooner?"
I thought about my schedule for work, after Hogwarts my dream job was a healer but they don't hire ex death eaters at St Mungos. So I did the next best thing, I became a healer for animals. Muggle animals and magic animals. Thats the reason we have a cat. Before I would usually cringe at the thought of an animal in a close proximity to me but now I love them. I usually work at six in the morning and mother takes Scorpius in so by the time I get out of work I have time to pick him up.
"Is tomorrow okay? Or is that too soon?" I asked
"Tomorrow is perfect, let's keep it a surprise then tell them after class tomorrow."
"Sounds like a plan, Potter."
"I'll see you tomorrow Malfoy."
"See you.”
And he hung up.
"Good morning everybody!"
All of the kids were buzzing with excitement. Harry has never seen kids so excited to learn.
"Today we're going to be talking about Albus Dumbledore."
"Is that the old headmaster?" One of the students asked.
"Yes! Very good!"
Harry got his lessons and opened them.
"I knew Dumbledore during my time at Hogwarts, he was an incredible man."
Harry looked around at the kids, it looks like they were eager to learn.
"He would constantly know everything, which so so scary! He always knew exactly what would happen next without fail."
"So he read your mind?" Rose asked, her head tilted just like Hermione's used to.
"Well yes, he was a Legilimens, you'll find out more about what that is when you get to Hogwarts. He was always one step ahead of everything. Even when he passed away, it seemed he even knew that was coming. He helped prevent a lot of evil taking over our world, but for him to do that a lot of bad things had to happen.
“When he was younger he helped defeat Gellert Grindelwald even though the two had a very close relationship. He started a movement called ‘The Order Of the Phoenix’ to fight against Voldemort and his followers. Dumbledore then was told of a prophecy of a young boy defeating Voldemort and realized he must raise this boy a certain way in order to put an end to Voldemort.”
The rest of Harry’s lesson included him showing the children old photos, mostly of Dumbledore and some of The Order.
"Okay, so now we're going to go around and you're going to say one thing you would say to Dumbledore if he were still here. Sound good?"
When he saw the children nodding their head, he also nodded.
"Okay Rose what would you say?"
"I think I would ask him what his favorite subject was during his time at Hogwarts." Rose said and Harry nodded.
“Very nice, perhaps it would be transfiguration since that’s what he taught in for a bit at hogwarts, he was extremely skilled in it.”
"Okay Cerelia, what you would say, or ask Dumbledore?"
"I would ask him all about father! I want to know what he was like." She giggled after her energetic answer.
"Very nice! I was also in school with your father. I can tell you about him sometime if you’d like.”
"Yes please!"
Harry chucked.
Harry kept asking all of the kids.
"If I was with Dumbledore I would ask him what that potion of despair tasted."
"I would tell him he watched over Hogwarts nicely."
"I would buy him a chocolate frog."
"I would ask him if being a headmaster is hard."
"I would ask him about the scariest thing he's encountered in the forbidden forest."
"Very good!" Harry loved hearing this stuff, but then he realized it was his son's turn.
"What about you Albus?"
There was a pause and Albus looked like he was thinking long and hard about his answer.
"I would ask him why he wouldn't let you know sooner that you had to die."
Harry tried to hide his surprise by the question and fake a smile, that's not the first time Albus has asked him that before. Harry had tried to simplify the war in a children's version but Albus had a big problem with what Dumbledore did. Harry had even gotten mad once because Albus said he hated his name since Dumbledore let him be killed.
"Thank you Albus." Was all he could say, he understood where the boy was coming from because a lot of witches and wizards have the same thought and he would never tell his son to change his opinion about someone he would just try and give them a different perspective on them.
"Your turn Scorpius." Harry said with a smile, today Scorpius didn't look nervous, he looked more confident and relaxed. Harry wondered if that was because of Albus.
"I would give him a hug."
Harry stood up a bit and crossed his hands over his chest, feeling intrigued. Harry wasn't sure if his father talked to him about what happened in the past and what event took place and how his father was there.
"Can you explain further Scorpius?"
"Even though he might have done a bad thing, it must've been hard for him. My father told me about his relationship with Grindlewald and after their friendship, he must have been very sad."
“Yes Scorpius it is very sad to even think about, Dumbledore never had a friendship like Grindelwald after that but he made the world such a better place for us!”
Aside from Albus, Scorpius was the sweetest kid he's ever met. Harry is convinced there is no bad bone in that boys body. His father is obviously teaching him amazing things.
Then Harry's thoughts went back to Draco. He was going to Draco bloody Malfoys house today and he didn't even feel scared, in fact he felt a bit excited.
"Okay guys! That's all we're learning for today, now you have free time to talk to your friends."
Harry sat at his desk and went through his email, seeing all of the parents who emailed him. It sounds awful but Harry didn't care about any of it.
Harry looked up from his laptop and smiled at the sight. Rose, Albus, and Scorpius were all laughing over a joke one of them told and Harry couldn't help but remember his life at Hogwarts in his trio.
Now, Harry couldn't help but chuckle under his breath. Scorpius and Rose were deep in conversation about something beyond Albus' intellect so Albus was just sitting there, looking in between the two with his eyebrows furrowed. Those two are the top in the class so it probably sounded like a different language to Albus.
"Mommy!"
That snapped Harry out of it so he stood up out of his chair, realizing it was time for the kids to leave. Harry waved goodbye at the student and the parent.
All of the parents came and there were only two children left. Albus and Scorpius.
The two were talking and playing around while Harry's attention was fixated on the clock, he was nervous for this hang out.
Harry quickly turned his head over, he heard somebody clear their throat. “Hi Malfoy.”
Draco didn’t answer but just nodded in acknowledgment to the other male. Draco’s attention went to the two younger boys who didn’t notice his arrival yet. Scorpius was laughing with Albus and they seemed to be talking about something completely random. “Scorpius.” Draco said softly. The boy looked over at his father and lit up even more. “Papa!” He jumped out of his seat and ran over, clinging onto Draco’s legs.
“Albus come over here as well, love.” Harry spoke softly to his son and as soon as both of the boys were in front of them Harry couldn’t help but smile.
“We have exciting news for the both of you.” The two boys perked up and stared at Harry. He looked over at Draco and all Draco did was nod with a small smile on his face.
“Instead of hanging out on the weekend, Albus and I are going over today so you two can play.”
It didn’t even take a second to process before the boys started shrieking and jumping. Harry chuckled and went behind his desk to pack his stuff up. “Did you want us to come now or let you get settled in?” Harry said quietly to Draco. “I think you should come now, otherwise Scorpius will keep asking about when you’ll arrive.” Harry chuckled and nodded. “I’ll let you get a head start, I’ll just finish packing this stuff up then we’ll be there.”
Draco nodded and picked Scorpius up, “they’ll be right behind us okay?” Scorpius nodded excitedly and laid his head on his father’s shoulder. “See you soon Albie.” Scorpius waved and both the men smiled at the nickname. Harry watched Draco walk out of the classroom and let go of the breath he’d been holding. He grabbed all of his stuff and locked up his classroom. “Do you want to Floo or apparate?” Albus thought before answering, Harry knew he didn’t like either of them.
“I think I want to apparate there and floo when we leave.” Harry nodded and picked Albus up. He kissed his head and Albus tightened his arms around Harry’s neck. “Ready darling?” Harry used his hand to rub Albus’s back. The child nodded and Harry held him a bit tighter before apparating to Malfoy Manor.
