when death comes you should be heaven's obsession
Lying in her bed, Tenten tries to forget what has happened to her. It's early morning already and she hasn't slept all night- two in a row. As soon as she closes her eyes, his face appears in her mind and she wants to get rid of the memory of his gaze.
He looks different than Sasuke, although they have the same dark eyes and raven hair. Tenten lies on her back, her blanket between her legs, arms stretched out as far as she can in her small bed.
It's scary, she thinks, how one meeting can overthrow your whole life. Tenten has never ever believed that she would truly find her Soulmate.
She was used to loneliness.
Of course, she had friends and she vaguely remembers what it felt like to have a family before her parents had passed away.
Still, even though has never been truly alone, there has always been a certain kind of loneliness inside of her- as if she was waiting for a person who she just hadn't met yet. A person she shared her literal soul with.
Now, having met this person, this man, she almost laughed at the irony, because social conventions just destroyed her only chance to ever be with this man.
In a way, she really wishes that she had never met him, that they hadn't shared that moment on the balcony.
At the same time, Tenten hates herself for wanting to forget about him. It almost feels as if she were to betray herself.
She groans, very annoyed with herself.
Tenten had never seen this man before and as far as she knew, he was a few years older than her. Now, after uttering a few sentences, he had become everything to her.
She has no one to confide into, as she is an orphan, she isn't from a prestigious school, has no money and doesn't consider herself to be remotely interesting, or even beautiful. She rarely suffers from low self-esteem, but...
It's raining outside, ever so gently.
She wonders if his touch would be as gentle as his gaze was when he had looked at her.
But then an image pops into her head: his wife.
Suddenly disgusted but yet unable to sleep she gets up, shoving the blanket off of her.
Her phone lies dead on the floor, right next to the bed.
Tenten is sure that her friends might have texted her, as she had been a mess on the wedding. She had drunk herself into a stupor, something she never did.
Maybe she should text them.
Later.
Slowly Tenten stumbles into her small kitchen to get something to drink.
She fills the kettle with water to prepare herself a hot cup of tea and leaves her flat, after putting on a bathrobe, to check her mailbox. She hasn't done so yesterday, even though it's part of her everyday routine.
After returning upstairs, the water in the kettle is already boiling, and Tenten tosses the two letters and the newspaper onto the counter.
It's only then that she catches a glimpse of a face she thought she would never see again.
Tenten almost trips over her own feet in her eagerness to reach for the newspaper and look at the article.
"ELDEST UCHIHA SON MARRIED"
And there, a picture of him and his family, another of him and his- wife.
Tenten gulps with difficulty.
Nonetheless, she finds herself a pair of scissors and cuts out his picture, without anyone by his side. She doesn't even want to read the article.
She only looks at his picture, his dark eyes that seem so different on the picture, then when he had looked at her. This man, this heir, is married now. Married to a beautiful and powerful woman. A woman, who is not his Soulmate.
Suddenly Tenten realises: she will never be the woman by his side. She closes her eyes and presses the picture of him gently to her chest.
It's here that she decides that she would lock up her heart - with him in it.

Her life goes on.
The following week, she tells her friends about having found a Soulmate, without mentioning his name.
Surprisingly, it's Ino, who screams shrilly at her, saying she should 'go get that man'.
"Ino, I'm not a homewrecker."
"It's destiny!" Ino says, matter-of-factly and Hinata and Sakura don't give any advice. She can't blame them, though. What advice would there be to give? Go, get that married man!Destroy his marriage, because you are his Soulmate!
She tries not to believe in destiny.
The girls and her walk along the road, each with a different cone of ice cream. It's the first day that Tenten feels even remotely human. She has showered, worked her shift and now only wants to feel the power of their sisterhood.
Maybe this will be their last summer together.
"You know what? Let's talk about something else," Tenten says and turns to Sakura.
"How long until you two can make it official?" Even though Tenten doesn't mention his name, the girls are aware of Sakura's 'forbidden' relationship with their teacher. Sakura doesn't blush anymore when he is mentioned. Instead, she seems to glow.
Tenten averts her gaze.
She tries not to believe in destiny.
So when a black, sleek car drives by with an opened window in the backseats, she can't help but stumble into Ino, who is right in front of her.
Because while driving by, she catches a glimpse of widening dark eyes, following her, as recognition dawns on both their faces:
Her's and Itachi Uchiha's.
