I never feared death. That doesn't mean I expected to go to sleep as an adult and wake up as newborn baby. Man a newborn's sight sucks. I can feel myself being wrapped up in a blanket and passed from one person to another. The blurs I can make out are talking excitedly in what I can tell is Japanese. I was never fluent in that, though I can make out that my new name is apparently Nari. I am quiet as I am held by someone who smells like antiseptic. They must be a nurse or something. Suddenly I can hear another baby cry. More excited talking and I can make out that the baby who was just born is my twin brother Genma. That name brings my mind to a screeching halt. How common was the name Genma? I am handed to my mother, her chestnut brown hair falling all around her face.
"Nari wa sozokujin to meimei sa remasu," she said to some other adult in the room. Then she brought me closer to the other baby, my brother. He was being held by whom I believe to be our father who was squatting down so I could see the baby boy.
"Nari wa anata no kyodai Genma ni au," said the man, shifting closer. I could make out the man's green vest so I glanced up to his face. There on his forehead was a headband with a very blurry leaf symbol on it. That was when I knew. I had died and been reborn into the Naruto world as Genma Shiranui's older twin sister. I did not freak out. Not then anyway.
The first year of my new life was very boring. I put almost all my energy into building up the physical aspects of my body. I was crawling by six months and walking by nine months. The rest of my energy was spent plotting. The story that happened in the anime and manga? I wasn't allowing that to happen. Naruto would not be growing up an orphan and Kakashi would not lose everyone. Danzo needed to die an early death and Tsunade needed to stay in the Leaf. With my plotting came my want to learn how to read and understand this language .I constantly hounded my parents to read to me. When they figured out that reading me stories kept me still and quiet, our home library and my vocabulary grew. Unfortunately for me my parents immediately spotted my genius intelligence when they caught me reading a baby book aloud to Genma when I was one. Oops.
My father laughed as he scooped me up. He picked up the book as my mother picked up my brother. He looked at the book.
"Teaching your brother about clans are we? You going to be a politician when you get bigger, aren't you?" asked my father.
"Hiro, she is your heir. She will need to know basic politics," said my mother. My father made a face.
"Politics is boring my little genius. You are too little to worry about that. Even if those nasty old people are trying to marry you off already," said my father.
My brain halted. Arranged marriages had never been mentioned in the anime or manga that I could remember. Although I guess it makes sense for clans like the Hyuga and the Uchiha. I thought the Shiranui clan was small and didn't possess any bloodline limits or special abilities. We aren't an important clan. Are we?
"What did you say?" growled my mother as she appeared in front of my father without my brother. My father stammered as my mother put her hands on her hips and waited for him to repeat.
"The clan elders are wanting to set up a marriage contract for her," said my father.
"Hiro....." growled my mother in warning.
"I told them no, Kuma. Especially when the name Uchiha came up," said my father as he shrank into himself. My mother huffed then marched back into the kitchen.
"We need to get ready for my nephew's birthday party. Move it Hiro," called my mother.
I soon found myself in a dark green dress and being carried once again by my father as my mother carried my brother. Both carried a gift bag. I played with my father's shoulder length chestnut colored hair as we walked out of our small clan compound. Apparently that is where my brother and I get our hair color from and why in the anime Genma's hair was so long. My father was the clan head to the Shiranui clan, but my mother said we were going to her nephew's birthday party. I guess that meant that my mother married into our clan. So who was my cousin?
"Nari, here's a quick lesson for you. Most clans have compounds and are located on the outskirts of the village. Us, the Nara, the Hatake, the Abruame, the Inuzuka, the Uchiha, and the Yamanaka basically form a outer ring around the village. We need space for our plants and stuff. The next ring of the village is made up of the Senju, the Hebi, the Sarutobi, the Hyuga, the Akimichi, and the Uzumaki. The last shinobi ring of the village is the Namaishi. the Gekko, the Namikaze, the Nohara, Yamashiro, Morino, and the Yuhi clans. Then you have the civilian districts and the stores and such. Although non clan shinobi also live in the civilian districts. Do you know why the village is set up like that?" said my father.
I shook my head no. I was shocked at the name of the clans. Some I had heard of. My father laughed.
"It's an extra level of protection for the civilians basically. If we are invaded they have to go through shinobi clan homes before they reach the civilians," explained my father. That actually made sense to me.
"Kuma! There you four are. Keeping my grandchildren from me are you?" asked a woman as she stepped out of one of the clearly marked clan compounds.
"Never mother. Have the others arrived yet?" asked my mother.
"Not yet. Hello Hiro," said the woman who was apparently my grandmother. My father hummed a greeting. My grandmother sighed but motioned us into the house behind her. I had the feeling my father and grandmother did not get along.
"I invited Sakumo and his son as well. Did you by chance see them on your way?" asked my grandmother as my brother and I were sat in the living room with a box full of toys.
"I believe Sakumo is out on a mission," replied my mother.
"Do you at least know who the boy's mother is? No one seems to know," asked my grandmother. Judging by how my parents wouldn't look at her I had a suspicion they knew. They had to be talking about Kakashi's mother.
"No I don't. As a clan head Sakumo was required to have an heir. It doesn't matter who the mother is all that much. Especially if the boy inherits his father's white chakra," said my mother.
"I heard the baby already shows signs of the Hatake's enhanced senses. Probably has an Inuzuka for a mother," said my grandmother. So the reason that Kakashi's mother isn't mentioned is because they don't know who it is? Does Kakashi even get to know? "Oi! Anyone home?" called a voice from the entry way. "In here Reiji. You have the birthday boy?" responded my grandmother . "Yes mother I have Raidou. Akira is not back from her mission yet," said Reiji as he entered the room with a child who looked to be three or four. "Rai these are your cousins Genma and Nari. Go play with them," said Reiji as he put Raidou down beside us. Genma almost immediately headbutted him, then giggled. "Gen no!" I cried. All eyes zeroed in on me. Guess my grandmother , uncle, and cousin now are aware I'm a genius. All well.
