Regulus needs a hug

James POV

“Ohhh that’s just great, okay. Let’s get you home.” James hauled Regulus’ arm around his shoulder and put his arm around his waist.

“No, no I’m fiiiine, I don’t need to go home yett.” Regulus complained, slurring.

“You are definitely not fine, you’re drunk.” James said, point blank.

Regulus made an ungrateful noise as they nearly tripped down the stairs. “But I miss your singing.” he pouted.

“Yeah, well you can listen to my singing plenty later at our other gigs, come on.”

Regulus frowned, grumbling something James couldn’t make out.

The two of them hopped into the front seats of James’ car, and he pulled out his phone to text his bandmates.

James huffed a sigh of relief, turning to Regulus. “Hey, can you tell me your address?”

With a soft ‘thump’, Regulus’ head fell on James’ shoulder. He stiffened slightly, unsure of what to do.
He tried tapping Regulus on the shoulder, but it only led to him grumbling and snuggling in further.

“Regulus? Regulus you have to tell me your address, I’m taking you home.” James whispered.

“Mm, but your shoulder’s so comfy.” Regulus murmured, the words hardly distinguishable. His eyes were closed and he looked ever-content, dark curls falling around his face, a light blush set over his cheeks. He was pretty.

“Please Regulus?” James’ lips pressed into a thin line. “You don’t have to get off my shoulder, just tell me where you live so I can drop you off.”

“Shhhhhh,” Regulus said, pressing his index finger to James’ lips, making him surprised.

“No more talking. Just- stay here..with me..like this. Please.”

The words were soft and barely audible, but James still felt his heart skip a beat. For a few moments they just lay there, neither of them moving or talking. They just lay and listened to their heartbeats. James could feel Regulus’ body was warm against him. It was nice, he had to admit.

James nearly fell asleep, his eyes fluttering closed before he snapped himself awake, remembering that he couldn’t stay like this forever (as much as he’d like to).

To see if Regulus would budge and tell him, James tried nudging him a couple more times before giving up.

He had no idea how to get Regulus’ address, and cursed himself for not getting Remus’ number.

As carefully not to disturb Regulus as he could, James pushed him lightly so he lay on his seat upright, ever peaceful. He clicked both their seatbelts on, and then drove home to his apartment.

It was very quiet between the two of them on the journey, which only lasted a couple of minutes. The only sounds after that were their uneven footsteps as James supported Regulus up the stairs, and the jingling of his keys as he opened the door.

It creaked open, and soon enough James had sat Regulus down softly on a bed. He was more awake now, as they both sat in the dark.

“You get some good rest, love.” James whispered.

He only got a quiet hum in response.

James got up to leave, but was stopped by a small voice. “Wait, Barty.”

James’ eyebrows knitted together in confusion, then he realized.

“Please don’t leave,” Regulus pleaded. His arm was on James’ now, begging him to stay. Through the dim moonlight, James could almost make out tears forming in the corners of Regulus’ eyes. It sent a pang to his heart.

James wearily sat back down. “I’m not going anywhere, Reg.”

“Okay, good. I’ve missed you.” Regulus sniffed, and let out a sigh of relief.

Regulus wrapped himself around James’ arm in a hug so tight James thought he might cut off circulation, murmuring into his shoulder. “Don’t leave me again.”

Regulus was so quiet and fragile, James didn’t know what to do with himself. He only sat there without a word, waiting, letting him lean on him until Regulus was asleep and his grip loosened. James then put a hand on his back to support him, carefully setting him down and pulling the blanket over him.

“Goodnight, Reg.” he whispered.

James left a small kiss on the forehead, then left to go to his own bed.

And that was that.
