Chapter 6

Sakura trudged back to her apartment consumed with worry for Hinata. Hinata had assured them all that she would be fine, which of course she would be, it’s not like Sasuke was some kind of fiend — he wasn’t unkind. Sakura kicked a pebble in her way and sent it flying out of sight.

But he isn’t exactly nice either.

Would Hinata ever be happy with Sasuke? Especially considering she was still in love with Naruto… Sakura would have done anything to get Sasuke out of prison, but sacrificing her friend’s future was going too far.

If only she had known what Lady Tsunade was planning…

“Hello Ugly!”

Sakura turned her head to see Sai standing outside her — their —  apartment building. She let out a frustrated sigh. “Sai, how many times have I told you to not use my ‘nickname’ in public?” Sakura adored Sai, but ever since he moved into the same building as her she was dealing with him a lot more than she could handle.

“What’s the point in giving my friends nicknames if I can’t use them?” Sai asked with an insincere smile.

“I didn’t tell you to stop using it, I just said not in public.”

Sakura tried her hardest not to let the things he says get to her, but after all the confusion and stress from the day, she couldn’t help but start getting agitated with his usual antics.

“Anyway, were you at the wedding?”

“Of course!”

Sakura narrowed her eyes. “Really? I didn’t see you.”

“Oh? I saw you.” His smile didn’t drop. Sakura was really beginning to lose her patience. Shockingly, Sai was able to pick this up and expanded on his answer, “I was keeping my distance so I could easily keep my eye on everything. I didn’t want to miss anything as I captured this happy moment.”

Sakura was unsure about whether this wedding could be considered a “happy moment.”

“You were painting the entire time?”

“Yes.”

“Can I see what you made?”

The sides of his smile lifted a bit as he took out his sketchbook and flipped it open. Sakura approached him and looked over his shoulder. Her jaw dropped open in horror as she took in the scene Sai had painted — it was her running off to catch up with the rest of the wedding procession. She was drawn flying across the page looking comically frantic, while Ino, Tenten, and the rest of her friends stood behind watching with mirthful expressions.

Sakura’s embarrassment quickly morphed into outrage. “I thought you were capturing ‘happy moments,’” she asked with clenched fists.

“Yes. I was very happy in this moment.”

Taking a deep breath, she tried reining in her desire to pummel him. “Sai—”

“Don’t worry, only I will be allowed to see this.”

Sakura blinked in surprise and Sai used the moment to disappear into the building. Grumbling to herself, she stomped off after him.

Oh that lying, sneaky fox! There’s no way he isn’t going to show that painting to everyone I know!

Yes, he was definitely getting too much for her to handle.
