Chapter 9
Quickly we throw some clothes on and went to get something for breakfast. Sakura was already done with his food but still stayed at the table with us. She had her head laid on her crossed arms and was staring as Sasuke was eating. It was honestly kinda creepy. If I didn’t know that it was the hotel staff who made our food and would think that she did something to it. I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t already try some shady love potion in the past. She seemed just like the person who would fall for this kind of scam.
We managed to survive her uncomfortable presence and after half an hour were ready to go. All of us were looking forward to being already home, so we didn’t take too many breaks and got to the village just as the sun was setting down. It was just annoying that we had to stop at Hokage’s office to give her a report. As if it wasn’t the same as when every team returned.
“Oh, you’re back. Were there any problems? No? Okay, you have two days off and if something is needed, I’ll send someone for you.” Like seriously, Tsunade didn’t even raise her head as she was talking to us. I couldn’t understand why we couldn’t go to her the next day unless there was a problem. But whatever, she was the boss.
When we got out of her office, we went on our own way. I was already yawning at the thought of my bed. My soft bed. I even got to change sheets before the mission so it was all clean. It took just a short shower to wash off all the sweat from the full day of running before I finally fell onto the bed. I felt tired but didn’t want to go to sleep just yet. I still had to think about the morning.
I had to admit that I felt like in heaven. When I realised that what I was feeling towards Sasuke was love, I didn’t expect it to be mutual. Sasuke always seemed to be annoyed by me more than anything else, but he really couldn’t hide the jealousy when I got back to the hotel. Maybe he thought he would be just fine being around me but when he realised I could get together with someone else he was like oh fuck it’s not fine? That could be possible.
It was kinda unconventional how it all happened but surely it was worth it. The kiss was just perfect. It didn’t matter that it was the first kiss for both of us, so we didn’t really know what we were doing. It seemed that the talks about the right person were true. I couldn’t imagine that I would enjoy it as much with anyone else than him.
It was just a shame, we didn’t have time or privacy to talk more after that. Sakura wasn’t willing to leave Sasuke’s side and that wasn’t ideal. Well, now we had two days without work, so I could just go to his apartment.
I decided to go there the very next day but before that, I wanted to simply enjoy being out. The weather was nice to just sit somewhere and relax. So I went to my favourite spot on the top of Hokages’ heads and lay in the grass. That was really nice. I watched the clouds lazily move across the sky. It was almost lulling me into sleep and I didn’t fight it. A small nap wouldn’t be bad, so I closed my eyes, not caring about anything.
I could lay there only for a few minutes, not quite long enough to actually fall asleep when I felt hands over my closed eyes as someone covered them. I didn’t even know how but I immediately knew who it was. “You’re like a ghost. I didn’t hear you come.” I giggled as the hand disappeared off my face and I could open my eyes.
“What can I say, I have a talent.” Sasuke smirked as he sat behind me. Easily he picked me up and seated on his lap and I didn’t hesitate to lean on his chest. Even if it all was so new, it felt so right to do so. Let myself be held and cuddled. Something I experienced for the first time in my life. Who would have guessed that it would be with him.
At one moment Sasuke took my hand in his and got it closer to his face. I was confused at first but then I realised that it was the hand I wore my bracelet on. I wasn’t taking it off. Just when I was in a shower. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I accidentally damaged it and it surely didn’t look waterproof.
“I’m glad that you like it.” Sasuke murmured, face buried in my hair. Thanks god, I washed them after the mission. I could hear from his voice that it truly made him happy. But wait. Oh. Now it made sense. “So it was you.” I couldn’t help but laugh. When the little present appeared, Sasuke was the very last option, when I was thinking about who it could be from. Now it was clear as day.
I just didn't understand one thing. “How did you find out, when I have a birthday?” No kid around our age knew when I was born. For them, it’s only the day when Kyuubi attacked. They didn’t have an idea that what had happened that day was the reason why their parent despite me and why they were turned against me. It was also because I lived alone and nobody didn’t really care about me, that only at the academy I learned that people like, celebrated their birthdays. That for them it wasn’t just another day.
I always felt like I was drowning in these thoughts, so I was glad that Sasuke started talking again, successfully pulling me out of the dark. “I just ask Kakashi. He didn’t have a problem with telling me.” Sasuke shrugged. True, that made sense. Even if my birthday wasn’t connected to the attack, Kakashi had files with our information. It was only logical to go to him.
After that, we stopped talking and just enjoyed each other presence. I looked back up at the sky. All the clouds were slowly floating away, leaving the blue sky behind. I could feel that Sasuke was more looking at me than at the sky. It was a little bit embarrassing. I tried to fight the blush covering my face but Sasuke’s giggling told me that I wasn’t really successful. So, I just turned around and kissed him on the cheek. If he thought my red face was funny, he could have one too. Idiot. Mine idiot.
The following days we spent together too. There weren’t any missions for us so our days off were extended. It was quite nice. We took walks in the forest around the village or spent time at Sasuke’s apartment. I didn’t like to admit it but it was much nicer than my own. Just Sakura started to bother me. Even normally she was annoying but this was different.
When we were out with Sasuke we had to literally find somewhere to hide from time to time, so she would stop stalking us. It was seriously uncomfortable. Sasuke was trying to calm me down but I just knew she was planning something. She was even more persistent than before. I knew that Sasuke wouldn’t have anything with her. Not only that I trusted him but well. He loathed her. After years of what couldn’t only be described as harassment, it wasn’t anything surprising.
Just now it affected me too. At least more than it did before. And I wasn’t alone. When I thought about it, there was something I noticed during the last few missions. Every time s girl tried to speak to Sasuke, it didn’t matter if it was a random girl or a kunoichi from another village, Sakura was really hostile towards them. Once I noticed a girl like this running out of the building in tears and behind her Saruka walked calmly with a smirk on her face. It was kinda creepy.
After that, I noticed the pattern more. Even in Konoha. A girl was nice to Sasuke when he went to buy food? The next day she looked sickly pale and her eyes had red from crying. Every following time Sasuke went to the shop, she hid in the back and let her male colleague handle the purchase. Seemed that Sakura didn’t care that the poor girl was just doing her job. Or that she was clearly married as she was wearing her wedding ring.
I got honestly scared for my well-being after I saw several of these encounters. She never thought twice before throwing punches. Surely not when it came to me. Moreover, if the reason I angered her had something to do with Sasuke. It was enough to give him a ‘not so nice’ look and she was yelling at me. It was only a matter of time before a disaster would happen.
And it actually didn’t take that long to happen. Just as we returned from the very first mission we had after our days off ended. We were leaving Hokage’s office after giving her a report, ready to finally go home when she started walking with Sasuke instead of going towards her house. She said that she needed to take care of something but I doubt that anyone believed her. She wanted to be alone with Sasuke for a moment when he wouldn’t be able to run away from her.
Sasuke looked at me, puppy eyes begging for help. I couldn’t just go with them. If I did I would risk a serious injury from Sakura, but after they walked away, I silently followed them. Plus if Sakura didn’t know about me, we could find out what she was up to.
At first, they just walked, Sakura a little bit too close to Sasuke but that was nothing out of the ordinary. They were almost at Sasuke’s apartment when she spoke up. “Hey Sasuke-kun, let’s go for a short walk.” She tried so hard for it to sound innocent, but it didn’t really work. We all were tired from the mission and wanted to be home as soon as possible. Who in their right mind would want to go on a walk? Sakura it seemed. But well, she was far from being… normal.
Sasuke surely didn’t seem thrilled by the suggestion. Just before we went to Hokage, he was telling me how he couldn’t wait to take a shower and now Sakura kept him away from it. “Yeah no thanks, I would rather go home.” He snapped at her but unfortunately, it didn’t work as she didn’t seem to care.
“Come on, it’ll be just for a minute.” She laughed, almost maniacally, as she dragged him away from the main street. Real-life kidnapping in the action. I wasn’t sure what she thought about a short walk but I surely didn’t expect her to drag him to the very edge of the village. There she finally stopped, probably satisfied with the lack of people around them.
Then she, out of fucking nowhere, slammed Sasuke into a tree. It was way too hard, most likely punching the air out of Sasuke’s lungs, but she seemed too lost to realise it. It made my blood boil. What the fuck she thought she was doing? I didn’t care that she didn’t know Sasuke was my boyfriend. This was worse than her normal harassment. Way worse. And Sasuke saw it the same.
“What the hell do you think, you’re doing!?” He yelled at her, scaring birds from the trees around them. He looked so angry. Even I would be scared of him at this moment and I know that he wouldn’t hurt me. But Sakura didn’t seem to be fazed by his voice. No, she got even closer to him. She pressed her chest to Sasuke, not sure what she thought it would do as it was almost as flat as Sasuke’s.
“Oh come on… I know you’re into me. You don’t have to play hard to get.” She purred. It was honestly kinda disgusting and I wasn’t even the one who she was doing this to. But it looked like she really managed to go insane. There was no other way she would believe this. She probably lied to herself for so long that she started to believe her lies. I wasn’t sure if we had a ward for the mentally ill in the hospital but if not, we seriously needed one.
What Sasuke was doing was far from playing hard to get. “That’s the stupidest thing I ever heard. How the fuck did you came up to this?” Sasuke tried to push her away without hurting her, but she didn’t budge. She was determined to get what she wanted. “I can see it, Sasuke-kun. How you’re looking at me.
She probably thought that she sounded sexy but that was nowhere near the truth. Now she was acting just like the prostitutes that could be sometimes seen during the night occupying dark alleys near bars. She finally crossed the line when she took Sasuke’s hand and tugged it in the direction of her crotch. That was something Sasuke couldn’t stand anymore.
Without caring if something would happen to her, he shoved her off making her fall to the ground. “In that case, you’re so fucking bling. I’m not interested in you, never was and never will. Moreover, I’m in a relationship so fucking leave me alone already.” Sasuke was getting louder with every word he said before he quickly walked away, leaving Sakura sitting on the cold ground.
Sakura looked shocked. Like, she didn’t move for a whole minute after Sasuke was gone. I was getting up to leave when I suddenly heard her voice once more. What I heard made me shiver. “You’re in a relationship?” She whispered, tears filling her eyes. For a moment I thought that she would finally understand. That she would see how stupid she acted. But then she started laughing.
“Not for long. I don’t care who she is, she is NOT better than me. I’ll find her and I’ll get rid of her. ” Sakura stood up and with shaken steps went away. “Sasuke-kun is mine, only mine!” Another wave of laughter escaped her.
And I started to seriously fear for my life.
