Chapter 5
Kakashi was sitting in the meeting room, bored out of his mind, waiting for the meeting about the genin teams to be over.
It was going to be so annoying for him to sit through everyone being surprised that Kakashi passed someone. Boy, sensei’s kid is a menace. He could make freaking shadow clones. The more Kakashi thought about it, the more he realized how interesting the kid was. Obviously, he realized the meaning behind the test, then he came up with some outrageous plans to get the bells off of the Jonin.
The boy didn’t even seem all that pressed about it. Little shit. Kakashi affectionately thought about Naruto.
After another 20 minutes of waiting for his turn, Kakashi finally got to submit his report.
“Team 7, pass.”
The Third Hokage smiled, knowingly. The other jonin were shocked, Kakashi Hatake actually passed a group. And the group had someone like the dead last of the year, who just so happened to be the Kyuubi container.
A few jonin jolted up in protest, making up an excuse to try and keep Naruto, or as they claimed, Team 7, from passing, Kakashi, being as sharp as he was, saw right through the attempted manipulation. He didn’t need to say anything, he just stared them down with a deadly gleam in his eye. That made them back track real quick.
The meeting came to an end and Kakashi finally got to head back home and relax.
The next morning, Naruto practically leaped out of bed. A little extra bounce when he thought of the new information that he learned last night. He got up bright and early, a whole hour before he needed to leave for his first day of training, he was fully awake with breakfast and everything.
Once he had his breakfast, he put on his ninja fit™ and made the cross sign for the shadow clones. He sucked in a deep breath and pulled almost all of his chakra out for the jutsu.
In the end, his tiny apartment was absolutely swamped with shadow clones, there were Naruto’s in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, outside, on the ceiling, everywhere.
After getting over the sight of hundreds of copies of himself, Naruto rallied the copies up.
“Hey. Look over here.” Naruto said, surprisingly, it wasn’t that loud even with that many copies of himself. All of the Naruto’s collectively looked at their creator and watched him, waiting for instruction.
“I want to test something really quick.”
Naruto called over one of his clones and punched it in the face. The clone obviously vanished with a poof and then the memory went back into Naruto’s head.
“I was right.” Naruto said, a quirk in the corner of his lip at the thought of all of the amazing things he could accomplish.
“Well, then. You all know what to do.” Naruto said to his soldiers. With that they all collectively shot off in different directions. The clones had a lot to do.
Naruto checked the clock, there were still 30 minutes until he had to go to the training grounds.
He had all of his clones focusing on the mental aspects of being a ninja and learning about the things he didn’t want to waste his time doing, so he didn’t know what to do with himself.
He decided to just head out to the training ground early. Eh, being early never hurt anyone i guess. I thought the clones would take longer… It was much simpler than I originally thought.
Naruto arrived at the grounds to see his team already there.
He didn’t really feel like interacting with Tweedledee and Tweedledum at the present moment, so he just jerked his chin up at Sasuke, who returned the gesture and climbed up in a tree to take a nap while waiting for their teacher. Heh, Sakura didn’t even notice me. Either I’m really good at this ninja stuff, or she is just down bad.
Naruto was dozing with his hat pulled down over his eyes, Naruto never properly went to sleep, for good reason, and spent a lot of his downtime dozing off. He was always in alert mode. The last time he properly went to sleep, let's just say that bad things happened and leave it at that.
I feel a disturbance in the force. Naruto pulled his hat up and jumped down from his trusty tree just as Kakashi made his appearance.
“Sensei! You’re late again!” Sakura moaned, a tick mark appearing on her forehead.
“I’m sorry, I saw a wild unicorn and had to chase after it.” Naruto once again nodded understandingly, like Kakashi had said that he had just come from a meeting with the Hokage, Sakura shot the silver haired man a death glare, and Sasuke just kept quiet as always.
Kakashi just smiled and turned to his student. “Today, we are taking our first missions.”
Sasuke actually lightened up after hearing this and Sakura beamed at the sight of her crush seeming happier. Naruto was a little intrigued, but was ultimately suspicious of the sadistic twinkle in his sensei’s eyes.
Then, the other shoe dropped and they went and received their first mission. They were chasing after a fucking demon cat.
Whelp, this is a great waste of time. I bet that the other scrubs struggled to do this, I think I’m going to hustle our dear sensei. Naruto thought to himself, making sure to really complain and whine about all of the boring D ranks and to take his time to complete them. Like over three hours to get the cat, he had his ways to hinder the other two.
After about 2 weeks of pretending to struggle, Naruto approached his dear teacher.
“Kakashi-sensei?” Naruto called his teacher as they were walking over to get their mission.
Kakashi hummed in response, waiting to hear some form of complaint from the blonde, but surprised by what came out of his mouth.
“Wanna make a bet? I bet 100 bucks that I can get 3 D ranks done in one hour. All by myself.”
Kakashi nearly scoffed at the boy, immediately taking up his offer.
“Shake on it?”
The pair shook hands.
“Then we have ourselves a little deal.”
Team 7 got their missions and as soon as they did Naruto turned to his teammates and said, “Guys, don’t worry about the missions today, go get a table at a restaurant, get me some ramen or something. I’ve got it covered.”
Sasuke just nodded and headed out the door, he fully trusted the capabilities of the Uzumaki boy. Sakura turned to Naruto and snapped, “What can an idiot like you do? Huh?”
Naruto ignored her comments and instead said, “Sasuke is leaving.”
Sakura quickly shut up and left.
Naruto taking a look at each of the scrolls walked out the door to see his sensei. Kakashi was smiling at Naruto holding the scrolls, practically feeling the 100 dollars in his hands.
“Deal still on, sensei?” Naruto asked.
“You’re on, Naruto. You have one hour starting… now.” Kakashi responded to Naruto.
“No take backs, Sensei.”
Kakashi then laughed.
Kakashi then realized his error. Naruto wasn’t just Minato-sensei’s son. He was Kushina’s too. Kushina was an Uzumaki, who were known for their enormous chakra reserves. Naruto was also an Uzumaki.
Fuck. Kakashi thought to himself. I’ve been played by someone half my age.
Naruto had dispatched his clones as soon as he had received the mission scrolls, he was just discreet enough that no one noticed.
Within 20 minutes, Naruto had all three missions completed.
“Pay up, sensei. A deal is a deal.” Naruto said to his now irritated sensei who quickly gave him the money and flashed away.
“Let’s go hunt down my loving teammates.”
Naruto managed to find his team after minimal searching. He entered the restaurant and was glared at by everyone in the place. Luckily, no one would dare attack him in broad daylight, so he was good.
“Hey there. Whatcha got for me?” Naruto said to his teammates, surprising the both of them.
After a quick explanation of how he just used shadow clones, the three settled down in the restaurant.
“So, did you guys order me anything?” Naruto asked, curious to see if his teammates actually got him something.
Just as he asked, the food came out, surprisingly, along with Sakura’s lettuce wraps and Sasuke’s fish platter, a ramen for Naruto came out. He was pleasantly surprised, Naruto was convinced that the two wouldn’t bother getting him anything. Sure, he didn’t really like the flavor, but that never bothered him before.
The three genin sat at the table for the next hour, actually semi interacting with each other and managing to get along. Sadly, neither of Naruto’s teammates ever managed to find out how he got the bells from Kakashi.
“Trade secret,” Naruto said with a wink.
After finishing their food, the three split the bill, Naruto saw no reason to offer to pay the entire thing, as a better man may have done.
Naruto was beaming the entire way home.
He opened the door and bolted it behind him. Naruto, then, pulled out the 100 bucks from the bet. “Why hello there, Mr. Franklin. Into my savings you go.” Naruto cooed at his 100 dollar bill, god knows why Kakashi was carrying straight up hundred dollar bills on him, but Naruto didn’t really care, he put his newly earned money into his money box which was hidden under his floorboard and then sealed down so only he could get into the box.
The two weeks with the clones’ memories were really working in Naruto’s favor. He was making outstanding progress in areas he found boring like chakra theory and control. He even managed to get a start on fuuinjutsu which he had always wanted to learn but had just now started to work on.
With the help of his clones, Naruto had learned the basics of Fuuinjutsu like how to start off storage, explosive, light, smoke and many more seals that ninjas use. He also was starting to learn how to break down seals which once he gets the hang of, will really help him figure out how the seals work.
While the clones were hard at work, Naruto researched other ninjas and types of techniques that he had heard of. Naruto didn’t want to be a specialist, he wanted to be able to do everything, that was why the shadow clones were so great for him.
He didn’t have anything to do that evening so Naruto grabbed the bingo book, the history books, and a few other things that would have been noted about techniques. He circled the ones that he thought were really cool like the Fourth Hokage’s Flying Thunder God Jutsu, Tsunade of the Sanin’s amazing healing techniques, Jiraiya of the Sanin’s Sage mode, he also had taken quite the interest in this Rasengan technique that both Jiraiya, who taught the Fourth Hokage, and the man himself used.
That Minato Namikaze guy needs some work with naming stuff, hah, he kind of looks like me. Naruto thought to himself.
Naruto wanted to eventually work on learning all of these techniques and many more eventually. While reading up on the history of the great nations, Naruto read something that peaked his interest.
The eight tails and Killer B, very interesting…
Naruto was intrigued by the 8 tails’ jinchuriki’s apparent bond with his Tailed Beast. He didn’t necessarily want or need the Nine Tails’ power in the same way that the other jinchurikis did, but Naruto did think the idea of knowing the creature that you are holding within you is very interesting.
Naruto was not naive, he knew that the Kyuubi was wrecked the entire village in a rage, but Naruto, with the information he currently had, had a gut feeling that something wasn’t right about the attack, Tailed Beasts were intelligent, more so than humans, so why did the Kyuubi blindly rage? That doesn’t make sense.
Maybe someday he could ask the bastard fox itself what happened that day and maybe he would get an answer. For now though, Naruto would focus on learning fuuinjutsu, figuring out new jutsus and getting stronger, as that was all he could do.
