Past The Darkness

I, Akira Harper, lived a short life, but a thrilling one nonetheless. During those twenty years, I travelled across the world. Since I had a passion for combat sports, so I travelled around the world to learn every type I could. I was able to admire the breathtaking view from the top of the Eiffel Tower, the endless Amazon forest, and many other things. What a shame that I died.

Well, that’s what I thought at first.

I imagined that after death would come silence, boy, how wrong I was.

The soothing voice of a woman reached my ears.“We finally met…” The woman sounded out of breath and happy at the same time. My ears pricked due to the strident cries coming from my left. Was that a baby??

I tried to pry my eyes open, but my body didn’t seem to move at my will. I was dragged away from the comforting presence of the woman to then be held in the arms of a man.

When the man spoke, the calm atmosphere of the room changed to a tense one. I tried, tried so goddam hard, to open my eyes.

As unlucky as ever, even if my eyes finally opened, everything was blurry, fog-like.

By this simple action, I felt all the energy in my body drained. My eyelids closed on their own and I fell asleep against my will.

***

I woke up to a burning feeling on my stomach. I couldn't tell how much time had passed since I passed out.

What is happening? Is this what Hell feels like?

I was trying so hard to stay awake, to grasp even the slightest bit of information about my surroundings. However, before I was able to do anything, darkness enveloped me, once again.

I fell asleep.
