Taylor Hebert, Avatar Build!
Character Sheet!
Name: Taylor Hebert
Skill Set: Avatar Build
Background: The next place that Vortex brought Taylor to after they left Konoha. While there were multiple, shorter stops along the way, their time in the world of the Avatar allowed them about a year of stability.
They established themselves in the capitol of the Earth Kingdom, Ba Sing Se, while training in the surrounding wilderness. They also made the acquaintance of a local tea shop owner who provided a friendly ear. Later, Taylor took on a part time job to help her people skills, while providing better access to this unexpected support structure.
While Vortex had a bit of a reputation on this world, (one that he did not really share in detail with Taylor), they had arrived during a transitional period and wanted to stay out of things as much as possible. Thankfully, with the various parties involved, it was not really that hard.
After all, a significant portion of the population effectively had super powers. Two more were able to hide with relative ease.
Please note that, like many things involved with Interdimensional Travel, location matters. Vortex directed Taylor away from techniques that would require the presence of dimension specific elements to work. If it's not listed, he probably did not bother with it.
Skill Sets:
Bending Skills: No Specific School. Elemental bending required a universe specific spiritual awakening that could not cross dimensions. However, several of the fighting styles had techniques that a non-Bender could use, and others were geared towards overcoming superior Benders with inferior fighting instincts.
Techniques: General knowledge of both Fire and Earth Style Bending Forms. While not able to develop the local Shaker or Blaster powers, Taylor learned a number of tricks about facing such foes.
Hand to Hand: Without Bending Skills, she is considered a generalist fighter. In straight combat, Taylor was no more difficult to defeat than a mountain bandit (assuming that world specific skills were all that they used.)
Learned new ways of making sure that she never fought a straight fight.
No aptitude for Chi Blocking demonstrated.
Techniques: Enhanced Meditation Techniques
Fire Style: Dragon Breath at Dawn
Earth Style: Unyielding Mountain
Sand Style: Shifting Path
Battle Flow Meditation a.k.a. "You Expand, I Contract, You Contract, I Expand."
Weapons: Gained some basic sword skill philosophies, although a dual wielding style was considered a poor match.
Calligraphy, and artistic impressions were used to expand understanding of fighting style development. Considered adequate.
Spiritual Awakening: While unable to awaken Elemental Bending to any significant degree, Taylor WAS able to learn about awareness of the local spiritual community. It began path of understanding the idea of the afterlife and it's associated factors.
Philosophy: Discussed the nature of conflict and cooperation at length with her local contact. It allowed her to put both her own past actions and the actions of others in significantly better perspective. Taylor also developed a better awareness of strategy games and various other moving meditations.
Overall Skill Set: By the time they left Ba Sing Se, Taylor could be considered a beginner to midrange combatant, if solely limited to the skills of the world in question.
However, it should be noted that several of the techniques and methods learned were later expanded upon in other schools of training and became central for her future development.
Associates:
Iroh, The Owner of the Tea Shop
A nice old man with hidden depths, Iroh took Taylor under his wing while she was in Ba Sing Se. While aware that he was ex-military, they focused more on talking about her experiences than his past exploits.
He showed her patience, understanding and peace in a way that no one else had since her mother died, and Taylor enjoyed every single conversation. Although she was more than a little curious about what made Vortex laugh about the situation. On close terms.
Zuko, the Nephew
A quiet young man with horrible facial scarring, Zuko lived outside of Ba Sing Se. However, he did visit when he could and was always polite. Demonstrated some interesting fighting styles to Taylor, including a mastery of Fire Bending and Swordsmanship. In return, she offered a sounding board whenever he tried to describe his relationship with his former girlfriend, Mai. On cordial terms.
Avatar Aang
Met him once, a week before leaving Ba Sing Se. While Taylor found the Airbender somewhat naive, his friendliness won her over by the end of their encounter. She appreciated his description of bringing balance to the world, and how that balance was an active cycle rather than a static set of bricks. This later inspired a greater understanding of the Entities Cycle, and it's flawed nature. Friendly enough, and wouldn't mind having another chat in the future.
