Kakashi's first day at his new school was something he has been dreading all week. He didn't want to go through the whole 'what's your name', 'where did you come from' 'why do you wear that mask' 'what's your hobbies' bullshit or receive tons of questions at all from people he couldn't care less about. His father's job made it so that they had to move around quite often. His father had promised this would be the last time, but Kakashi didn't count on it. He never got to make friends, and if he did they were only ever temporary.
His last friend being a boy named Tenzou who was definitely devastated when Kakashi had to go. It was probably for the best. That boy had become a bit infatuated with Kakashi. If Kakashi didn't have the excuse already that he was leaving then he wouldn't know how to let the boy down on his own. He told himself not to get too close to anyone after that.
The lack of stability that came with moving from place to place was freeing. For the most part after he left no one would remember him or care about his existence at all. So when he walked into the school, and he had to introduce himself, and he gave the bare minimum. He would try his best to be invisible. Although it was also a bit difficult not to attract attention to yourself when you had gray hair in a sea of brown and black.
"We have a new student with us here today. Would you like to introduce yourself?" The teacher with bright blond hair and blue eyes gestured to where Kakashi was sitting. The whole class turned to look at him, Kakashi saw everyone since he specifically chose to sit in the back of the class. Why do I have to do this every time? An annoyed thought went through his head as he stood up to speak.
"My name is Kakashi. I'm 16." He stated rather robotically. It was simply put and there was nothing else these students needed to know. Surprised by his bluntness, the students and teacher looked at him as if expecting more. He didn't give them any other information about himself and sat back down. The teacher only looked at him for a moment then moved on. Some students looked at Kakashi either with annoyance thinking he was an arrogant jerk, or they looked at him in awe thinking he was cool. Kakashi ignored all the stares he got.
The only one who didn't notice anything about 'Kakashi the new kid' was a boy seated near the back of the class. This boy was drawing in his notebook, filling it with illustrations of birds. The book was filled with semi-realistic ravens on the page taking flight but it was so well drawn it looked like they were frozen in a still image. That must have taken a long time to get the details perfect.
It was a good thing this kid sat in the back of the class, to anyone in front of him it would look like he was diligently taking notes. Kakashi sat behind this boy admiring the way the pencil lifted from the page, taking in this boys focus and dedication in finishing the piece. This boys shading was impeccable and the ravens were so beautifully drawn Kakashi didn't focus on anything his new teacher said, only watching how the boys' drawing was coming together. But he never got to see the end result, the bell rang and the boy was shocked out of his drawing state as if surprised that class was over already. He had to frantically put his notebook and pencils away rushing out of class not giving Kakashi a glance. Kakashi's interest piqued already and he immediately wanted to know the boys name.
Kakashi didn't see the boy in one of his classes until 3 periods later. The boy was still working on his drawing but has made significant progress. It was basically done already what more could he add? Was all he doing in school was drawing? Kakashi didn't sit close enough to make conversation, maybe he should ask the boys name in the hallway? Kakashi hoped he would be able catch him, he ran away pretty fast the last time he saw him to get to his next class on time. It would be weird if Kakashi just ran after him.
Wait why do I care about this boy? It's not like we can become friends. I'll probably have to leave in a few months anyway. Kakashi tried to think logically, but in reality that didn't stop his curiously about who this boy was.
Kakashi admired this boys black hair, a striking contrast from Kakashi's own gray hair. Which many people thought he had it dyed. Why would he do that when it would only attract attention to himself? In truth it was the result of a genetic anomaly which his father also possessed. Not me staring at his hair....I don't even know his name! But I will find out before the day ends.
The class ended and this time the boy also rushed to leave, he put his things away quickly but then he dropped a folder scattering papers everywhere. Kakashi saw this as a chance. He could help him pick up the papers and make conversation. It would be the perfect excuse.
"Let me help you." Kakashi took the papers and stacked them neatly on the desk edges lining up, and handed the pile to the boy.
"Thanks..." the boy was thankful but his tone was unsure. That unsettled Kakashi but he didn't really know why.
"...I saw you drawing in class this morning. You're really good." The boy didn't answer so Kakashi tried to continue speaking as he was passing him all of his papers.
"What's your name? My name is Kakashi, I'm new here." Engaging in a conversation was difficult enough but forcing a conversation was torture. He didn't want to pull teeth trying to talk to him, but he wanted to get to know this boy. Luckily the boy spoke filling the silence with more than a word.
"Really? I think I've heard some people talking about you...My name is Obito." Obito put his folder away and started walking out of the class. "Thanks again...Kakashi." He waved and headed out. Obito saying Kakashi's name for the first time sounded so natural to him even though he was just trying it out. Obito ran to his next class leaving Kakashi with an empty feeling. He had wanted to talk more.
Luckily they had the next class together and when Kakashi came in, he spotted Obito immediately and saw the chair next to him was empty. Kakashi took that spot as soon as he saw it. If it was someone else's seat then that would suck for them they could sit somewhere else.
"Uh hello again." Kakashi felt awkward but hadn't actually felt like this before around anyone and didn't know how to feel about it. Why is being around him so awkward. He noticed that Obito started a new drawing, but Kakashi wanted to see the one he was working on earlier. He probably finished it. But he wasn't going to pester Obito considering they just met.
"Hello." Obito said as Kakashi sat down next to him. He kept sketching and Kakashi didn't bother him which Obito appreciated. Obito flipped to a new page disregarding the new drawing he started. This new boy was interesting and Obito had an idea.
"Um...Can I draw you?" Obito looked up at Kakashi, and started regretting the fact that he even spoke. He looked away quickly, "Nevermind—uh forget I said anything." Obito’s face started to heat up and started to look the other direction to hide it. Kakashi didn't notice.
Kakashi was too stunned to answer right away he wasn't expecting Obito to ask to draw him but he was flattered then he said, "Sure but you have to let me see it when you're done."
Obito's eyes lit up and he began to draw the guidelines and decided to do a side profile sketch since Kakashi was sitting to the right of him. It would be easier than trying to do a frontal view. Obito found himself mesmerized by his perfect jawline, and his gray hair. It was so unique. Obito found himself staring more than actually sketching. But it's just because he meets the golden ratio right? It's not like I feel anything for this boy I barely know. Obito thought as he was drawing. Then class ended and he wasn't done. He'd finish it at home and show Kakashi tomorrow.

The next day Obito went to school, and he worked on his drawing and he was really happy with it. Instead of the usual dread he felt going to school everyday he found himself eager to see Kakashi again. It's just because I'm proud of the drawing nothing else.
In truth Obito didn't have any friends at school, and Kakashi was the only one to approach him. He was really friendly to Obito which was a rare occurrence. The only reason he probably did so was because he was new, everyone else avoided Obito because he was deemed 'weird.' So he didn't pay attention to them and continued to draw. No one ever complimented him so he didn't know how to take it.
When he drew Kakashi he immediately wanted to show him to see what he would say. Obito found him and had his sketch book in his hand. Obito admired his face structure some more. He found himself blushing at the thought of his mask coming off to see his true face. He must look even more handsome...Okay so maybe this wasn't just about his proportions...and more about a crush? No way.
"Kakashi!" Obito half-heartedly shouted to get his attention. Kakashi turned towards the direction of Obito's voice. Obito could tell that Kakashi was smiling even if he couldn't truly see it, and Obito looked at him and immediately got self-conscious about his work. Shit I can't show it to him. What if he hates it and tells me it's horrible. I might actually die. Like drop dead...I can't show it to him. He's so perfect and I can't even—
"Obito?" Kakashi asked and suddenly was closer to him. How'd he get there so fast? "Hey are you done with the drawing?"
"I-uh-am not?" Obito stumbled over his words. This was a lot of interaction for two days. "I'm not done yet..." Obito answered more clearly. Kakashi nodded, and they walked to class. As Obito was holding his notebook tightly to his chest. It was opened to the page where he drew Kakashi. Yesterday he was so proud of it then one look at the real Kakashi he immediately lost that pride in his work. After all how could someone put such perfection on a sheet of paper?
Kakashi was looking at Obito. He seemed nervous and anxious about something. Obito looked at Kakashi sometimes stealing glances. Kakashi sat behind him so Obito couldn't pull out his notebook to work without passing over the page of Kakashi without the subject in question seeing it. I promised I'd let him see it I have to show it to him.
Obito decided that he'd show Kakashi the drawing after school so if Kakashi didn't like it or hated it, he could just run away and never show his face to Kakashi again. Yes that's a good plan.
Last period came way too fast.
But he wasn't going to back out now. He saw Kakashi come out of the classroom and led him aside.
"I finished...but I actually finished yesterday night I was just too chicken to show you earlier..." Obito laughs nervously and holds the paper in his hands. This is it he's going to show him what he did, and was anxiously awaiting what Kakashi would say. Why did I ask to draw him in the first place?
"You drew me way too good looking Obito." Kakashi was blushing out of slight embarrassment but it was hidden and he could feel the heat on his face. Obito did such a good job but that's not me I don't look that good.
"What? You're perfect there's no way I drew you—" Obito stopped himself. He just called Kakashi perfect to his face out loud. "I didn't mean it like that! I just mean you're very handsome—and you're facial structure is...Um..." Obito could practically feel the smirk Kakashi was giving him. But why was he smirking? Why wasn't Kakashi like punching him right now calling him a gay weirdo like everyone else used to before they completely ignored him?
I think I'm just gonna...go kill myself now... Obito thought as he turned away not looking Kakashi in the eye, he was going to walk away and was even prepared to just run away but he heard Kakashi speak up after him.
"Do you want to go on a date?"
That was the last thing Obito expected Kakashi to ask. In fact that sentence wasn't even on his radar of potential things he would say.
"A date?!" Obito asked making sure he heard correctly. There's no way...
"Yeah..." Kakashi just saw Obito call him handsome and get all flustered, he must have a chance right? Unless he was reading too much into it or—
"Of course! It's not everyday I get asked out by a model." Obito joked. His mind was racing, Kakashi likes me back? He asked me out. Holy shit.
"I could be your model whenever you like." Kakashi's confidence stirring. He definitely wouldn't mind Obito to draw him again. For once Kakashi actually hoped his Dad wasn't lying about them staying for good this time.
