Toshinori Yagi (Part 1)
This was so wrong in so many different ways. She knew this and yet, she couldn’t help but harbor these feelings for him. He had no idea, no one had any idea. And she was going to be damned if anyone found out.
She was taking this secret to the grave.
“What the fuck is wrong with me?” she constantly asked herself that. Being accepted as a transfer student into the most elite hero school in Japan was a big deal. Kagome Higurashi was by no means powerless. Having Eraser Head, aka her homeroom teacher, personally recommend her for the hero class, word spread the school quickly.
Bakugo Katsuki was the first to challenge her, and Aizawa agreed to their match. “This will be a good lesson for them.” was all he had said. After a small demonstration of her powers, Aizawa knew she was the most dangerous of any hero he had encountered.
“What will my mother think of me?” She internally groaned at the thought. But then again, she had been pining after a half-demon more than a hundred years old with her mother's full support. “But this is different, he’s human!”
These thoughts kept running through her mind. What would her classmates do if they found out? Would they support her or reprimand her? After class let out, Kagome made a quick escape before anyone could speak to her. She made her way towards a more secluded area just outside the Academy walls.
It was a quiet, forested area. Being surrounded by the trees and away from the noise of the city, reminded her slightly of the feudal era. The air wasn’t as clean, but this was as close as she could get. As far as she knew, none of her classmates were aware of this secluded spot.
She had tried her best to fight these feelings, however, the heart wants what it wants and she was head over heels for Toshinori Yagi. They had met in this specific spot not long after the well had been permanently sealed. She was still recovering from her injuries from the battle she had with Naraku.
It was brutal and no one left the battle unscathed. Kagome had a particularly nasty injury on her side where Naraku had impaled her with one of his tentacles and ripped her side wide open. How she survived with all the blood loss, she wasn’t sure. She had chalked it up to the jewel saving her life.
She had moved into the dorm rooms and was instructed to wait until after class before meeting them. She was still pretty weak from her battle and refused to tell any of the pro heroes how she sustained such an injury.
She hadn’t meant to wander so far from Campus, but she was so caught up in her thoughts, she didn’t realize how far she had gone. By this point, she was lost, tired, and in pain. She had left her medication back in her room.
She slid down the bark of a tree, if this had been the feudal era, no doubt would she be in danger. There was no way she’d be able to defend herself in the state she was in. She took a few deep breaths to calm her breathing, she wiped the sweat from her forehead and cursed her weakness. She leaned her head back against the bark of the tree to stare at the blue sky.
Kagome didn’t know how long she stayed there. She zoned out and only came back to reality when the bushes a few feet from her rustled. The priestess tensed as she awaited whatever would emerge. She prayed it was just a bunny or a squirrel.
However, it was one of the U.A. teachers. Kagome let out a sigh of relief as his blonde head poked out from the bush and landed on her. “Ah, there you are. The others have been looking for you, Miss….”
“Kagome Higurashi,” she said.
“Toshinori Yagi!” he introduced himself, “Come, let us return! Your classmates are waiting to meet you!”
She nodded her head, and shakily stood up on her feet, using the tree as support. The bead of sweat that slid down the side of her face did not go unnoticed by the man. He could tell she was in pain, her legs wobbled as she stood up. She took a step towards him and her knees all but gave out from beneath her. She crumpled to the forest floor and Toshinori was beside her a moment later.
He saw the side of her shirt turn red. “You’re bleeding…”
“Damn,” she lifted her shirt to get a better look at her bandaged side. Normally, Toshinori would have averted his eyes, but the red-stained bandage kept his attention. “I reopened it.”
He gently gripped her arms and pulled the woman up, before he swooped her into his arms, being mindful of her bleeding side. She gasped as she was suddenly enveloped in his warmth. She felt a sense of safety wrap around her. She felt completely and utterly safe in this man’s arms. Something she had never felt with Inuyasha.
If she hadn’t been in so much pain, she would have protested at being carried. “Let us hurry back and take care of that.”
She bit her lip as she noticed his suit was being stained with her blood. “I'm sorry…”
“You have nothing to apologize for!” He gave her a smile that caused her heart to skip a beat. She quickly looked away so he would not see the blush rising to her cheeks. He, of course, was oblivious to this.
“How did you get a wound like that?” he asked her all of a sudden. He felt her tense in his arms, “You do not have to tell me if you do want to.”
She apologized and said nothing more. From that moment on, Kagome would use any excuse she could to talk to him and just be around him.
She smiled at the memory. From that moment on, she was hooked. His aura was bright and pure. It was comforting to her and wrapped herself in a warm blanket. Just as she was enjoying her memories and beginning to relax, a villain barrelled through the trees.
She froze.
He froze.
She gawked at the villain.
His shocked state turned into a smirk as it lunged at her. Kagome didn’t think, she just ran. It laughed maniacally as it chased her out of the wooded area and into the town. Kagome quickly realized that she was putting innocent people at risk. “I have to keep its attention on me!” She heard a woman behind her let out a scream. She stopped and turned around to see a red-haired woman in his grasp
“Hey ugly!” She called out to him.
“Who the hell are you calling ugly?” He growled, showing his sharp teeth.
Kagome swallowed and pulled the Shikon No Tama from beneath her shirt, “You see this thing?” She smirked as the villain dropped the woman who quickly scrambled away. Kagome released the barrier that she had placed around the jewel to conceal its presence.
In an instant, she saw his eyes dark as the familiar feeling of power washed over him. “Give that jewel to me, girl!”
“If you want it, you’ll have to come and get it!” and with that, the chase was on. It was risky revealing the jewel and unmasking it. She bit her lip, she’d have to deal with the consequences of her actions later.
Right now, she needed to focus on the villain chasing after her. She didn’t notice several heroes chasing after her and the villain.
“What the hell does she think she’s doing!?” The number two hero, Endeavor, grumbled. He could see Eraser Head in his peripheral.
“She’s pretty quick!” Hawks, flying above the two of them, let out a laugh.
Endeavor scoffed, he could feel Eraserhead's irritation. It seemed like his students had a talent for attracting trouble.
“I wonder what that sudden burst of power came from,” Hawks mused out loud. The sudden burst of energy had rippled throughout the city. Surely anyone with a quirk would be in search of the source.
“Hawks, would you stop playing around and retrieve the girl!” Endeavor snapped at the birdman soaring above them.
“Roger that,” Hawks gave a mock salute and swooped down and pulled Kagome from the streets and into the air.
“Hey! Let go of me!” she struggled in his grip.
“I'm not sure you want me to let go,” Hawks smirked when she stopped struggling and stayed silent until he was sure they were a safe distance away. He landed atop a building a few yards away from where Endeavor had intercepted the villain.
Aizawa soon joined Hawks.
“Aizawa!” Kagome beamed at the man, but her smile quickly dropped at his disapproving look.
“You put yourself in a dangerous position, again,” the pro hero scolded her.
“It wasn’t like I asked to be chased by a villain!” Kagome argued, “All I wanted to do was be alone with my thoughts and sort some things out! The next thing I know, he comes barreling through the trees and starts chasing me! And then he suddenly had a hold of this innocent woman, so I drew him away.”
Aizawa let out a sigh.
“What the hell is this thing?” Hawks' sudden question had both their attention. Kagome spun around and tensed when she saw the jewel in his hands.
“Give that to me!” Kagome desperately reached for the jewel, but he moved out of reach. Kagome felt herself grow angry and her powers rise to the surface.
Aizawa felt the sudden change and tensed. Hawks either didn’t seem to notice or didn’t care.
“Hawks!” A booming voice spoke.
“All Might,” Aizawa greeted the hero as he landed beside him.
“I do believe you should give Young Higurashi her possession back,” he eyed the jewel warily. He could feel the power radiating off the jewel. He didn’t like that it practically called to him.
Hawks let out a sigh, “Way to ruin my fun,”
Kagome ripped the jewel from his hands, “Don’t EVER touch this jewel again!” she jammed her finger in his chest all the while glaring at him.
Hawks narrowed his eyes at her as he wrapped his hand around her small wrist, “I don’t think you know who exactly you are speaking to, girl.”
“I don’t give a damn who you are,” she snarled, surprising both All Might and Aizawa, “If you ever touch this jewel again, you will cease to exist.”
“Is that a threat?” he asked lowly.
“It’s a promise,” she responded.
Aizawa stepped between the two of them, interrupting their glaring match. “Let’s go, Kagome. We’ve got a lot to discuss.”
Kagome shot Hawks one last glare before leaving with Aizawa. All Might let out the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. “Hawks, I do believe it would be wise to not antagonize Young Higurashi.”
The bird hero promptly ignored him and flew off.
All Might let out a sigh.
A few hours later, he found himself in a meeting with Aizawa, Midnight, Present Mic, and Snipe. In the center of the room was Kagome Higurashi. Her eyebrows shot up at his appearance. Sure, she had seen All Might on TV, but she hadn’t met him in person. If she hadn’t been so angry, maybe she would have noticed him on the roof earlier that day.
“Sorry I am late!” The pro hero took his seat.
Aizawa crossed his arms as he eyed the woman standing in the center of them all. She fidgeted under their gazes.
“I can accept that the incident with the villain was bad luck,” Aizawa started.
“Threatening a Pro Hero is stepping out of line for a U.A. Student.” Midnight chimed in.
Kagome turned her attention to the woman, “I was well within my rights to do so.” she snapped. When it came to the jewel, Kagome did not hold back. She would not let it fall into the wrong hands again and create another Naraku. She gripped the jewel hidden beneath her uniform tightly. This did not go unnoticed.
Aizawa was stunned. She was normally calm, cool, and collected. But in the situation, she was being unreasonably hostile. If she lashed out, he feared he wouldn’t be able to do much to stop her seeing as how he was unable to erase her quirk.
They all knew that Kagome Higurashi was easily the most dangerous of them all.
All Might cleared his throat, “Why do you believe you were in the right to threaten Hawks?” She turned her furious gaze to All Might.
“With all due respect, I do believe it does not concern any of you.”
“Kagome,” It was principal Nezu who spoke, “We’re just trying to understand the situation. I’m sure you are aware, but earlier today, we all sensed something powerful wash over the city, and then it suddenly disappeared.”
Kagome glowered at the animal as he met her gaze head-on, her grip tightening around the jewel.
“What is that you are protecting so intensely?” All Might captured her attention once more. He knew he hit the nail on the head when she tensed. The room grew silent as they waited for her reply. Kagome bit her lip, refusing to answer. “You have to trust us, Young Higurashi…”
“It has nothing to do with trust, Toshinori,” She spoke softly, “It has everything to do with keeping you all safe.” Kagome removed the jewel from beneath her shirt and brought it out for them all to see. “That power you felt was from this.”
“It’s just a jewel?” Midnight leaned forward to get a better look at it. Kagome drew it close to her person.
She shook her head. “It’s not just a jewel. This is the single most powerful object to exist. The Shikon No Tama, or The Jewel of Four Souls. It grants immense power to whoever possesses it. Depending on the user's soul, it can be considered good or evil. If your soul is pure it will remain so. However, if your soul is evil the jewel will reflect that. I am its guardian and will do everything within my power to protect it.”
“So Hawks…”
“I will not apologize for threatening a pro hero. This jewel is more important than even my own life and I have a duty to protect it and that is what I will do. I will not have the jewel fall into the hands of someone who could potentially become another Naraku!”
“Naraku?”
She let out a sigh, “Yes. He was a…” Kagome paused briefly, debating whether or not she should reveal anything. She shook her head, the cat was out of the bag, “He was a half-demon who desired the power of the jewel.”
“Demons? That seems awfully far-fetched…” Midnight scoffed. She wasn’t one to believe in fairy tales.
“I don’t expect any of you to believe me,” Kagome retaliated. “All you need to know is that this jewel can destroy every single one of you in this room with ease if it falls into the wrong hands. It is my job to prevent that at any cost and to keep the jewel pure. Now, if you’ll excuse me. I am going to go to my room. I’d appreciate it if this conversation never left this room.” With that said, Kagome turned and stormed out of the room, leaving the adults in a shocking state.
“She knew your true identity,” Aizawa glanced at All Might who sat eerily silent beside him.

Kagome ignored anyone who tried to speak to her. Once in her room, she threw herself on her bed and screamed into her pillow. She hadn’t meant to lash out at anyone, but when it came to the jewel, she couldn’t help it.
If another Naraku arose in a society like this, she feared she would not be able to stop him. She felt especially awful about snapping at Toshinori the way she had.
The next day, Kagome debated whether or not she should even attend class. She sighed, skipping class would give her, and Aizawa, a bad reputation. He was the one to recommend her after all. She opened the door and was shocked to see Toshinori with his fist raised as if he was going to knock.
“Ah, good morning,” she greeted, shuffling uncomfortably.
“Young Higurashi,” he smiled at her, “May I have a word with you?”
A knot formed in her stomach, but she nodded. She followed him downstairs to the empty common room. “The others left for class, I’ve informed Aizawa you will not be attending today and will be with me.”
Normally, Kagome would feel giddy about spending the day with Toshinori, however, under the circumstances, she was nervous.
“O-Okay…” The guilt washed over her.
He seated himself on the couch as Kagome stood in front of him, shifting around nervously. When he spoke, she nearly jumped out of her skin, “You are not in trouble. After you left, we discussed it among ourselves. The way you reacted was understandable. If either of us had been in the same position, I am sure that we would have done the same thing.”
Kagome felt relief wash over her. “Ah, thank you.”
It grew silent between them once more. Toshinori opened his mouth to speak, however, Kagome interrupted him. “I’M SORRY!” she bowed, her forehead brushing against the cool glass of the coffee table she was standing in front of.
“W-whatever for!?” she could hear the slight panic in his voice.
“For the way I disrespected you!” she said, “I shouldn’t have snapped like that. Whenever it comes to the jewel I just…”
A hand gently set itself on her shoulder and Kagome raised her head to meet the soft blue eyes of Toshinori and his gentle smile. She could only stare at him as he spoke to her, “It is quite alright, Kagome.” Her face suddenly felt like it was burning. She liked the way her name rolled off his tongue.
“I’m in love with you,”
