Chapter 2

Year xx09, the 22nd day of December

I don't remember anything of this day or any other day until I was about two and a half years old, but this was the day I was born, and I was told my life had been nothing short of a miracle, though I hadn't yet known that I was The Toad Gallant's daughter, and my father hadn't had that title yet as he was just known as the fool, the pervert, the sage, and the idiot, plus even he hadn't yet known about my existence, not for quite some time at that.

"This isn't good," The midwife exclaimed, her eyes widening at what she's found. "the umbilical cord... it's wrapped around your child's neck."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean!!!?" Nami asked breathlessly, still pushing even with all the pain it was causing her.

"It means if we don't hurry, it'll be too late for your child, we're too deep in to change and do a C-section instead, so hurry now, hurry," the midwife said while putting her gloved hands deeper up into the vaginal hole to help stretch it open just a bit wider and to help pull out the baby just a bit faster.

Nami gave out screams of pain, she wanted to laugh but she was crying instead and her baby wasn't making this easy for her at all.

Her body was heavy, hot, and in pain, almost as if her insides were on fire, her breath was thinning and she felt as if she was going to faint anytime soon, but she has to hold on to be able to push her baby out all the way, she can't give up yet, she pushed, and pushed, and pushed, it felt like an eternity.

"Almost there, one more big push, just one, don't stop yet," the midwife said while concentrating on the task in their hands.

Taking a deep breath she did as told no matter how much her body protested against her with all its trembling, she just wanted to lay on her back and be done with this already, but no, she's stuck in this crouching position until her midwife saw fit, but at least she has the support of the birth chair or else she wouldn't even be able to do this.

She pushed with an anguish-filled scream and she felt and heard the plop of her baby, relief hit her as well as dread, she finished her part and she just had to hope her baby had made it through or all this would have been for nothing.

There were no cries heard, she was in a daze, she felt herself slipping into a faint, she left the rest up to the midwife capable hands

The midwife had quickly unwrapped the umbilical cord around the purple babies neck, the color lightening immediately, she stuck a tube down the babe's neck and sucked out any liquids that might've made their way through, the child breaths, but still doesn't cry, and with the primary source of the problem gone, she cleaned the baby up just a bit, put her in a diaper and wrapped her in a blanket then laid her in the basket and put a breathing mask over the babies face to help her breath while she helped Nami with the after birth.

Nami woke up just as the midwife went to take care of the afterbirth, it was easier to push this out than a baby as it wasn't fully clinging into her insides, but all the same, it hurt.

"What-" she started to ask, her voice just a whisper, she's tired, her fainting spell was maybe just a few minutes at most but she doesn't know as she hadn't asked but it was the least of her worries, she just wanted to know what happened.

"Your baby's alive and it's a girl, she's over in their basket sleeping, she's breathing but she'll be under my careful watch for a few days to make sure she'll be alright" the midwife explained

Full relief hit her and she cried ugly, snot and everything, she has a daughter, she's a mom! She, a mom. She couldn't believe it and she doesn't think that the girls back home would either, she'll have to write them when she can, even though that part of her life might be over they were still her family even if none of them were related by blood they deserved to know why she left and how's she's doing.

"You'll have to think of a name for her, though her personality and looks haven't shown quite yet, she did manage to pull through something that babies usually don't survive, perhaps in the Shinobi's districts but certainly not ours." The midwife stated.

A name? Well, there's Katsumi for overcoming, but at the same time when she had first found out she was pregnant she had wished for a daughter so she could dress her up in pretty dresses like a little princess, though most of that will stay a dream, at least she does have her little princess.

"Himeko, her name will be Chikafuji Himeko," she said with a proud smile.

"Princess child?" The midwife nodded her head in approval, "a good name and with your good looks she'll look like a princess indeed, lets just hope she gets most of her genes from you but if not then let's hope her father is even just a quarter as good-looking so she won't be doomed"

She laughed, she didn't know who her child's father was. When she found out about her pregnancy she had already been four months in and while the house she stayed in took note of their customers they did get ninja every once in a while and she knows that they could alter their looks as well as lie about their name so she couldn't say whether or not if he was good-looking, but money was money.

"Yes, let us hope so," she said in between her laughs, making the midwife chuckle along.
