The masked man sways his legs back and forth as they dangle over the edge of the cliff he was resting on. He looked over at his partner who was kneading clay into his palm, with no particular idea in mind as to what creativity would spark in that beautiful mind of his.
Deidara could feel eyes on him, regardless of the mask hiding anything that would indicate so.
“What?” The blonde mumbled without taking his gaze from his work. Not that it would have mattered anyway, being unable to see his partner's expressions. He may as well have been staring into the void of nothing.
“Oh nothing Senpai!”
Tobi chirped. He always said this when he wasn’t sure if he could say much to Deidara, though sometimes he wished that he could.. But alas that could never be, could it?
He reminded himself from time and time again that none of this matters, that soon none of it shall matter. He will get his wish, get everything he’s always wanted.
“Even without an expression to see you are a terrible liar. Pathetic.”
Deidara scoffs. Using the edges of his fingers to soften out the clay.
Tobi smirked underneath the mask and shifted to turn and face Deidara completely.
“Now Senpai, that's not very nice is it? Why must you be so mean to poor innocent Tobi?” He rested a hand against his cheek with his elbow propped on his leg for support.
Deidara barely gave so much as a glance.
“Innocent? Doubtful.”
He rolls his eyes, bringing his attention back to his creation.
“Now why do you say that?” He was curious as to what he meant, of course he knows well that Deidara is not stupid. Not by any means.. But he was way too careful to allow anything to slip. Not after everything he worked so hard to build.
Deidara couldn’t tell if he was being genuine with his question or if this was one of his games that he likes to play. He could never be sure.
Suddenly the blonde stops what he was doing, gazing out in front of him.
“Tobi, who are you really…?”
it came out like word vomit. Without any thought given, he’s not even sure why he asked. Curiosity maybe? He always wondered what person lied beneath the mask.
Tobi fell silent.
