Chapter 1
SAKURA POV
Kakashi takes team 7 to karaoke and he puts up that “I’m always having fun and I’m never serious” facade. He sings teenage dream by Katy perry, he’s actually a decent singer, but sings
badly on purpose to give the kids a much needed laugh. Sakura watches while she keeps glancing at Sasuke. After Kakashi finishes, she goes to take the microphone and trips a little. She steps
on the small circular stage and starts singing driver’s license by Olivia Rodrigo. She’s not too terrible, but her voice cracks when she gets to the line “I know we weren’t perfect but I’ve never felt
this way for no one”. She blushes and pulls a Debby Ryan, putting her hair behind her ear. She continues singing and looks to her small audience of three. Kakashi gives her a wry smile, Naruto
quickly gives her a thumbs up, and Sasuke is staring at the opposite wall, reading the menu that’s plastered on it. She finished the song and sighs, smoothing down her dress as she sits on the
couch. Naruto excitedly gets up, jumping onto the stage. He puts on a concentrated thinking face as he scrolls through the song book. He grins as he finds a perfect song. The music starts with
piano, joined by a lower sounding tune. Finally when the lyrics start coming on the tv screen, Naruto takes a big breath, and begins singing.
“Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world”
He looks at Sakura with a friendly smile.
About 36 seconds later he sings:
“For a smile they can share the night, it goes on and on and on and on...”
He looks at Sasuke and there’s something different about it than when he looks at sakura. Sakura peers at Sasuke and is surprised to see him with his eyes gently closed, satisfied smirk painting
his face. Sakura frowns and turns back to Naruto.
He’s actually a pretty good singer, able to hit higher notes rather than low. As he finishes the song, Sasuke opens his eyes. Naruto glances over at Sasuke, as if to see his reaction, but he quickly
turns away. Sakura looks at Sasuke’s turned head, and notices that his cheeks are slightly red.
Kakashi urges Sasuke to sing a song, and he sighs as he unwillingly treads up to the stage.
He quickly picks a song, looking bored as he does so. The music starts, a soft, acoustic tune playing. He opens his mouth and a unfamiliar soft voice sings out:
“Hey there Delilah, what’s it like in New York City...”
His eyes are closed as the melody carries on.
“Oh, it’s what you do to me, oh it’s what you do to me...”
He peers into Naruto’s eyes, his face warm under the purple and blue lights.
Naruto seems as if he’s in trance, like the music is hypnotizing him. His eyes shine, unlike Sakura had ever seen.
She felt as if she was about to cry. She scrunched her hands on the skirt of her dress and tried to focus on the glowing lights instead of the person on stage.
She could almost feel the joy radiating from Naruto next to her. As Sasuke finished his song, Sakura felt a measly tear slip down her face. She ducked her head down to wipe it off.
When she raised her head she felt a sudden wash of courage. Sasuke was walking down the stairs of the stage back towards the couch. As he got closer, she hesitantly started to stand and reach
out to him, thinking of something meaningful to say. But just as she unclouds her thoughts she realizes that it’s too late. Sasuke had already reached Naruto, and it was quite a sight to see.
Naruto grabs Sasuke’s hand, laughing and saying something like
“I didn’t know you had it in you”
All the while having his classic closed eyes and ear to ear smile.
If she looked over to Sasuke, he was looking to the side, face red, embarrassed by Naruto’s unfamiliar praise. Sakura almost became elated when she saw Sasuke pull his hand away from naruto.
But it was fleeting. Naruto looks confused as Sasuke turns away from him. The last thing Sakura sees before Sasuke leaves the room is him covering his face with his arm, as if he was crying. But
little did anyone know, he was hiding the redness of his face, as if he could wipe it off.
