Minato has a good day
Minato was bored.
After he had gotten home he had laid on his small bed and tried to sleep but he really couldn’t. It was really annoying too because he was really tired, just not sleepy. He was hungry too but he was too lazy to cook. He had eaten up the leftovers that Azaki-san had given him a week ago too.
Urgh.
He cursed out past Minato for eating those leftovers.
Past Minato was a dick.
His stomach rumbled again.
Minato sighed and rolled over trying not to overthink the evaluation.
He wished that he wasn’t alone.
Minato couldn’t help but let his thoughts wander–he imagined a faceless man and woman smiling at him–ruffling his hair–loving him. Maybe they would have a celebration cake? He had never had cake before but Chouza said that cake was really good. He wished–
Minato ached for someone to be proud of him. He let out a small laugh and shook himself out of his self pity, trying to ignore the slight wetness in his eyes.
He slammed a mental wall down on that subject and cast his mind around for something else to think about.
He pulled his flowery covers up to his shoulders and nuzzled his face into the blanket. Minato really loved this blanket. It was nothing like the tattered rough fabric of the blankets back in the orphanage. His bed was like soft too, no springs dug into his back and there finally wasn’t a leaky fucking pipe. He really didn’t know how the hell he survived the pipe.
He perked up hearing doorsteps coming close to his door. There was a knock and he rolled out of bed and padded to the door praying it was Azaki-san. Azaki-san was definitely the best person to ever grace the planet. She is everything that is good with the world.
Minato sent a quick prayer and swung open his door and–words cannot describe how happy he is right now. Azaki-san stood in all her messy shirt, pajama bottoms, straight dark brown hair tied in a bun with senbon sticking out. She was holding glass containers and he could smell the food wafting up. Her husband was standing behind her, Shiranui-san was a civilian baker and from the one time he and Minato had met, Minato had liked the man. Shiranui-san had been nice to him and gave him a tray of brownies to take home. Minato still to this day drooled about those brownies, gooey, chewy and warm–he should probably stop thinking about brownies.
Shiranui beamed at him. Minato smiled back. “Azaki-san, Shiranui-san!”
“Heya kid.” Azaki-san elbowed her way in and Shiranui-san followed. His tan skin glowing golden in the setting sun. Shiranui-san was pretty muscular with light blond hair and kind hazel eyes. He had a little stubble on his chin and sunglasses were propped up on his head. Azaki-san and Shiranui-san were both more on the lean side though.
Azaki-san set down the containers on a coaster and propped her hands on her hips giving Minato a warm smile. “So, how’d you do on the evaluation kid?”
Urgh–
He scrunched up his nose a little and Shiranui-san laughed, ruffling Minato’s golden hair as he passed by to gently put the box he was carrying down onto the table.
“I’m sure you did fine Minato. Don’t overthink it with that genius brain of yours.”
Minato squinted, disbelieving at him and huffed a little. His chest warmed and he felt a little glowy.
“C'mon kid, you didn’t think we’d miss you right after the evaluation right?”
Minato couldn’t help the smile that pulled at his lips. He turned away and pretended like he had something in his eye so he could wipe away the tears that had gathered in his eyes.
“Let’s eat!” Azaki-san had opened the glass containers and had already set out Minato’s plates and cutlery.
Minato feels bubbly and glowy as he sits down with Azaki-san digging in and pretends to not see Shiranui-San slip the box into his small oven.
He wakes up feeling happy.
Yesterday after they had celebrated his evaluation being over Shiranui-San had presented him with a lemon cake with vanilla icing topped with whipped cream and berries with chocolate flakes sprinkled on top.
After they had all eaten, Shiranui-san and Azaki-san had gifted him with a special kunai made for decoration. Of course it was still sharp but it had been intricately carved and designed. It was a three prong kunai with a golden handle and designs etched into the metal. He had immediately put it up on his wall.
He glanced at the kunai on the wall and felt glowy again. Today was a good day.
He sprung out of bed and made himself a simple breakfast with a bagel and carefully spread cream cheese onto it.
After breakfast he brushed his teeth, washed his face and then skipped out the door to go to the park where Shikaku, Chouza and Inouchi would (hopefully) be.
He arrived at the park and looked around for Shikaku's spike of hair.
His good mood dropped slightly when he couldn’t find it. But no matter! Minato was having a good day, a great day even. He would prevail.
…although not at this park. Already clan adults and kids were shooting him dirty looks and making disapproving noises.
He nodded to himself and swiveled around making to walk off.
Minato had turned just in time to see an Inuzuka girl deck another Inuzuka boy.
Ah-
Minato was not going to get involved. He remembered very clearly the last time he had fought with someone. It did not end well.
He pretended he was blind and swiveled (again) and made to walk away until-
“You fucker! I’ll beat your ass! Say that again I dare you! And you! Blonde kid! The fuck you looking at? I’ll beat your ass too!”
No.
Minato did not want to get punched (again)
He looked around praying there was a Yamanaka near him.
There was not.
Minato looked to the heavens for divine intervention.
There was none.
There was in fact a simple solution to his problem.
He nodded to himself again and sprinted.
Minato was not running away. He was…making a tactical retreat. Yes, a tactical retreat.
He ran smack dab into an Anbu who materialized in front of him. Minato slammed full force and practically bounced off had the Anbu not steadied him.
He looked up and—oh—the wolf mask stared back down at him.
Minato decided that his day was ruined and his life sucked as they both shunshined into the Hokage’s office.
