Chapter 10

Chapter 10

We didn't stop for anything thing on our way back to Winterhold and we made it there in record time, when we arrived I was surprised to see the town still standing I half expected it to be overrun with magical anomalies like the game even though I have the eye so I guess that rules out my theory that the game was just forcing the plot forward, still if Ancano had figured out that I had the eye and staff I would have expected a group of Thalmor to be here waiting to arrest me or something but everything seems normal enough in the town itself, we dismount and make a beeline for the college.

As we're passing through the courtyard Tolfdir sees and stops us and says that the Archmage wanted to see us before going on his way, Savos is still alive? Tolfdir certainly seems to think so, I need to get to the bottom of this so I head straight to the Archmage's quarters with Lydia trailing closely behind me as we make our way up the stairs leading to his chamber, this could easily be a trap so I decide to take some precautions just in case if I'm wrong the the worst that can happen is that the Archmage might think I'm a little paranoid.

So before I open the door I tell Lydia to hold her position and only come in if I call to her or if she hears fighting I also cast (haste) on us both, then I cast (invisibly) and (mirror image) and open the door and step inside and send my mirror image ahead of me as I slowly follow behind it, surprisingly I actually see Savos in there but a quick scan with my alpha stigma reveals him to be an illusion unless he's somehow replaced his body with pure magic, I watch as the fake Savos waves my mirror image over as soon as it gets close Ancano appears behind it with a dagger in hand as he creeps closer before I make my move I use (observe) on him.

Name: Ancano

Race: High Elf (Enhanced)

HP: 5000

SP: 1000

MP: 20,000

Strength: 22

Dexterity: 35

Endurance: 55

Intelligence: 175

Wisdom: 125

Charisma: 20

Luck: 100

Thoughts about you: Unaware of you

Just as he's about to strike I stop concentrating on the mirror image and I take a moment to enjoy the shocked look on his face before I create another (mirror image) next to me before blasting him with frost breath which takes off a chunk of his health and causes him to stumble but he manages to keep his footing as he turns and fires a lightning bolt at me but I block it with my (barrier ward) at this point I hear Lydia's footsteps coming up from behind me and I rush at Ancano, my DEX is already higher than his but with my tier two (haste) raising it by fifty I quite literally blur towards him and use (shocking grasp) and (power strike) to deliver a punch that sends him flying back into a stone wall before backpedaling as Lydia passes me and rushes him herself.

As Ancano tries to defend himself from Lydia's attacks and stand back up simultaneously I start summoning as i bring out a slew of knights wolves and frost atronaches to move in and surround him but as they close in a huge wave of arcane energy blows Lydia and my summons back with great force that actually manages to kill a few of the wolves, as Lydia is trying to stand up she's suddenly struck by a ray of green magic and her legs give out and she falls prone, a quick (observe) shows that she's not dead but parallelized and I let out a sigh of relief.

I hurl a (fireball) at him but he raises a wall of ice in front of him which my alpha stigma immediately copies and when my fire ball impacts it produces a a huge cloud of steam which obscures my vision and I'm just barely able to dodge out of the way of some magic arrows which fly past me and stick into a wall behind me, I call back some of my spectral knights and have them form a wall to protect Lydia while my remaining frost atronaches rush into this mist, I hear the sounds of fighting and see the occasional spell fly out of the cloud and destroy surrounding objects.

New Skill Added (Wall of Ice) Level 1/100
The user creates a wall of ice which extends from a solid surface you can see and can be no longer than 100 feet and no thicker than 1 foot, the wall can be curved or close however the caster chooses so long as the wall is connected to a solid surface, any creature that is struck by the wall as it is being created take INT physical and INT cold damage additionally any enemy creatures within 5 feet of the wall will take INT/2 cold damage every 10 seconds

Since Ancano can't see me anymore than I can see him I decide to recast (invisibly) and make another (mirror image), throughout this fight I've been using my own MP so I pull the fully charged staff of Magnus out of my inventory and I begin using the stored MP to summon some ranged attackers but I make sure to position them around my mirror image, after almost a full minute of summoning a strong gust of magical wind blows away the steam revealing an only mildly wounded Ancano, he must have cast some kind of healing magic on himself.

"You insolent cur! One of your filthy kind doesn't deserve to possess such powerful artifacts they belong in the hands of a superior mer like me" he screamed, my only response way to mentally command my summons to open fire and a moment later a barrage of spectral arrows and firebolts were flying at him at high speeds, Ancano unfortunately decided to open his mouth again as he casts another spell to protect himself "you're just a novice with delusions of grandeur, I'll show you what a real wizard is capable of."

Just before my onslaught of ranged attacks reach him Ancano waves his hands out in front of him and a great gale starts to rapidly swirl around him as it sparks and crackles with electricity, all the firebolts are put out by the intense wind which also send all the arrows flying away in random directions some of them even hit my summons, I scan his spell with alpha stigma.

New Skill Added (Storm Shield) Level 1/100
The user conjures a small localized storm to protect themselves the strong winds will reduce the damage of ranged attacks by INTx2 if the damage is reduced to zero then the attack is sent flying away in a random direction, if a enemy creature enters the range of the storm and weigh less than INTx2 pounds and they fail a STR check then they are sent flying away while they take 200+INT lightning damage if they are too heavy or they pass their check then they and not pushed away but take INT/2 lightning damage per second while in the storm

Well I definitely do not want to get close to that I haven't exactly weighed my self since I came to this world but I'm not eager to test if I'll be sent flying, as I'm pondering my next move Ancano shoots a fireball at my mirror image which does nothing to it but it does manage take out a few of the summons around it, before the smoke clears I quickly cast (weave illusion) to make it look like my mirror image blocked the fireball with a ward while I order my spectral knights to move into position just outside of the storm's range as I cast (flash of light) which I guess worked if the girly scream Ancano let out as he furiously rubs his eyes is any indication.

My spell doesn't break my invisibly surprisingly I don't know why blinding someone isn't considered a combative action
maybe you have to do damage for it to count, still it benefits me so I can't exactly complain as I fire a blueish green ray from the tip of the staff of magnus which strikes the storm wall which begins to dissipate as the mana powering it is stolen away, as Ancano's vision clears he lets out a curse as he sees his spell faltering, I order my remaining archers to draw their bows and to all fire as soon as his shield drops as I feel him frantically pumping more mana into his spell to keep it up.

Now he's stuck, if he drops his storm my summons will turn him into a pincushion but if he keeps it up I'll drain all of his mana with the staff, damned of you do damned if you don't, interestingly enough I also have a unique problem in this as well, as I continue to absorb his mana I realize that while Ancano's MP is in freefall I'm rapidly approaching the staffs storage limit so I have to start summoning and casting as I continue to drain mana, this goes on for about a minute before Ancano narrows his eyes in concentration before the storm suddenly dissipates and just as the hail of projectiles are about to make contact I'm suddenly blinded by a brilliant light.

I feel a great force smash into me as I'm driven back several feet as I hear the sounds of explosions around me, I'm almost knocked down but I just barely manage to keep my footing that definitely took a chunk of my HP, as I go to reflexively rub my eyes I let out a pained grunt as I feel one of my archers arrows stab into my left shoulder before it vanishes, I blink rapidly and my sight clears up just in time for me to see a frost atronach sprinting straight towards me and I'm able to roll out of the way just in time to avoid it's downward strike which leaves a small crater in the floor where it hit.

From my crouched position I leap a surprising distance away to create some breathing room and fire off a few (stone bullets) at it which each chip away large chunks of it's icy body, I'm not able to stay on the offensive for long a I hastily throw up a (barrier ward) to block a volley of ice spikes from Ancano, luckily a couple of spectral knights are able to engage the damaged atronach and keep it off me, after seeing his ice spikes shatter against my ward he begins to slowly march toward me while blasting my barrier with a continuous stream of fire from his fingertips.

As he gets closer and I'm going over my options the flame blocking my view are suddenly extinguished as I hear a loud clanging sound as Lydia's shield clatters to the floor and as I drop my barrier and I see Ancano clutching his head in pain, thinking quickly I cast (flash of light) disorienting him further before I swiftly close the distance between us and tackle him to the ground and place my hands around his throat and I start to strangle him while casting (shocking grasp)and I watch as his HP falls.

as his struggling starts to die down a look crosses his face as he stretches his hand and casts a spell, just before his HP reaches zero I'm suddenly thrown off of Ancano and I land on the floor a few feet away and as I reorient myself I see Lydia running at me with a enraged look on her face with glowing red eyes, some kind of fury spell? I cast (quicksand) which stops her in her tracks by the time I'm able to refocus on the elf I see a glass vial shattering on the ground and a quick (observe) reveals that he has recovered a bit of health.

One of my spectral knights rush him but a fast application of storm wall sends it flying before it's able to get close enough so I use one of my new spells as I create a (wall of ice) that starts rapidly forming and expanding towards him but he dives out of the way just before it connects so I wrap it around him in a small circle so he still take the cold damage for being too close, at this point Lydia has managed to get free of my quicksand but before she can reach me she's restrained by a couple spectral knights while what's left of my archers and I leap up the newly created wall so that we're overlooking Ancano.

He's still taking continuous damage just from being that close to the wall and I can already see small patches of ice start to form and spread across his body as he tries to climb out of his icy prison but a quick unrelenting force shout puts a stop to that, the deafening shockwave of force knocking him of the wall and slamming him into the floor hard enough to crack it, Ancano tries to stand back up but I create a pair (mana blades) which fly down and stab him through the chest at breakneck speed while all my archers fire down at him and his HP finally drops to zero and he breathes his last.

Closing the wall of notifications I immediately put my staff away and hop down from the wall before I rush over to Lydia who no longer seems to be struggling in the spectral knights hold, she's looking down at the floor so I tilt her head up to look at me and I see that her eyes are back to normal, I still use (observe) on her just to be safe and after finding nothing I order my knights to release her, upon release she immediately falls to one knee, "my lord I must apologize I have failed in my duties as a housecarl and harmed you I'll understand if you don't want to keep my in your service any longer," she says in an somber tone.

I don't get why she's so upset but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth so as soon as she finishes her self deprecating rant I immediately lean down and place a hand one one of her shoulders before I put on my best approximation of a compassionate expression "Lydia you have nothing to be sorry for, I don't think you have failed and I certainly don't intend to remove you from my service you weren't in control of your actions if anything it's my fault as a leader for not considering mind control as a possible attack."

We go back and forth for a couple minutes with her trying to assert that she was somehow at fault and me shutting that down before she finally calms down, then I squeeze her shoulder slightly while casting (touch of pleasure) and I ask her to stand up and she suddenly jumps back up and kisses me while I hold her.

+25 Affection with Lydia for reassuring her of her place with you

New Perk Added for reaching 100 affection with Lydia (Warlords Presence)
Any allies within CHA feet of you deal 20% more damage and take 20% less damage

I'm happy with my reward but I'm really starting to get into this so I quickly close the pesky game window before I deepen our kiss as I insert my tongue into her mouth, as we break I notice something off, the color drains from Lydia's face and her eyes widen an instant before she shoves me away and I stagger back just in time to see a thin green beam of light streak through the space I just occupied and disintegrate a large section of the wall behind were I just was, immediately switching to battle mode I blindly shoot a (fireball) in the direction the beam came from before erecting a high (wall of ice) around me and Lydia.

New Skill Added (Disintegrate) Level 1/100
The user fires a small green ray from one of their fingertips which transmutes anything it touches into a fine grey dust (the caster excluded), the ray can disintegrate any non magical item smaller than a 10x10 feet cube otherwise it will disintegrate a 10x10 feet cube out of whatever it hits, if the ray hits a creature and it's END is less than half of your INT it is disintegrated if it's END is higher then the creature takes 200+INT disintegration damage

Next I create a (storm shield) above my head at the top of the wall to ward off aerial attacks which proves to be wise as a hail magic missiles suddenly arc over the wall but are thrown away by the storm and I hear them crashing into various objects around us, now that we're safe momentarily I need to assess the situation so I activate my summon sense to look through the eyes of one of my spectral knights on the outside of the wall and as I scan the room I see our attacker and my blood runs cold, it's another high elf but this one isn't dressed like a Thalmor he's dressed in expensive looking yellow robe emblazoned with crimson arcane symbols, a psijic monk? How did I piss them off I thought they didn't like to interfere with peoples lives, I guess I should see what I'm up against.

Name: Quaranir, Psijic Monk

Race: High Elf

HP: 30,000

SP: 6500

MP: 120,000

Thoughts about you: you are an anomaly that must be purged

I have all of two seconds to consider how fucked I am before the knight I'm looking through is obliterated by another disintegrate spell, I quickly send a mental command to all my remaining summons to attack and I feel them start to rush Quaranir but suddenly my connection with them is severed, I don't have long to think about this as a fraction of a second later my ice wall was shattered by what seemed like a tidal wave of raw arcane energy which washed over us and knocked us back and I see both of our HP drop like a rock if my wall hadn't taken the brunt of it we would have both died.

Lydia is unconscious having hit her head on a stone pillar she's still alive barely, once again I'm thankful for gamer body I'm sure I'd be pretty mangled now without it, I shakily get back on my feet and I see the monk preparing to cast another spell at me, fuck this is unfair what kind of game sadistic game ambushes you with another more powerful boss second you clear the final boss of a questline? As I see a familiar green energy build up on his outstretched fingertip.

With the difference between out stats and the fact that his first attack that hit my almost killed me I'm only seeing one real option, I see the elf's eyes widen as I activate (verse jump) and I watch as he franticly put his hand down and cast one final spell which I observe with my alpha stigma but I don't get a chance to read the new notification before my vision fills with white light and I fall unconscious.

When I come to I find myself standing in a familiar white void this is the place where my new life began, I want to feel angry at my circumstances but a feeling of overwhelming calm overtakes me, I thought verse jump was suppose to take me to an new world not back to this place and almost as if answering my mental question a bunch of the games text boxes open up all at once and I begin to cycle through them.

Congratulations on using the verse jump feature for the first time! Your next world has been preselected and cannot be changed, here you can select world alterations or perk using credits, warning the gamer may forget some options that they have selected until the have cleared the worlds verse jump requirement.

Well at least I'll finally see what I can use credits for, still forgetting what I picked is a little concerning maybe I can figure out something about the next world by looking through my options, as soon as I think that a huge window opens up in front of me and it's filled to the brim with all kinds over perks, challenges and world modifications that seems to go on forever, I guess if you have enough credits you could change just about anything, still I only have 180 credits so I need to be careful with my choices, after I spend a few minutes looking through the list and I come to a realization after seeing some of the options.

Looks like I'm going to the boob show, the racial options and sub options go on and on, I even see options for dragon and god but even the weakest dragon option costs 10,000 credits and god costs a whopping 1,000,000 credits and considering how often I get them I don't think I'll be affording those races any time soon, I also see angel and fallen angel but they don't really interest me angel locks me out of the plot and I'd probably just fall anyway and while fallen angel is more up my alley it's just not what I want to go for, so my two choices are human or devil if i go devil I'm definitely not going to be someones servant so I would have to go with noble and probably lord as well since I don't want anyone to have power over me.

Of course I could just stay as a human even if I take the wealthy start and grab a sacred gear it would still be way cheaper than going the devil route after a few moments of contemplation I ultimately decide to remain as a human for now it's not like it'll be hard to become a devil if I change my mind so I select human and I go with the wealthy start option and I also make sure to grab a sacred gear as well which leaves me with 100 credits left over and after selecting some world modifications that I won't be able to remember after which I end up with 50 credits left and as soon as I close that menu I slip back into unconsciousness once again.

I let out a yawn and sit up in a surprisingly comfortable king sized bed and I look around the lavishly decorated room and one of the first I notice is that the game unequipped my robes for some reason and as I crawl out of bed another game window opens.

A wide grin spreads across my face at the implications of that skill but I need more information about my surroundings before I dive head first into grinding, after taking a few moments to walk around my new room and get my bearings I spot two outfits folded over the top of a dresser with a sealed envelope, a wallet and a smartphone in between them one outfit is just some casual clothes but the other is definitely the Kuoh academy male uniform, I tear open the envelope and read its contents, it turns out that it's a letter saying that my transfer request to Kuoh academy has been accepted it also includes my starting date and a schedule the paper also say that I should introduce myself to one Souna Shitori.

The next thing I pick up is the smartphone since I already know the date I need to start at Kuoh I need to check what day it is today, once the phone boots up I see that it's Friday evening and that my first day is on Monday so I have the rest of today and the weekend to familiarize myself with the house and grind, it also probably be a good idea to scout out the town and see if I can get any indication of where in cannon I am, there was a date on my acceptance letter but it doesn't mean anything to me, ideally I'll be a few weeks or maybe even a month before cannon so I'll have time to really power up and strategize.

After I put the phone and the schedule in my inventory I open up the wallet and see a photo ID of myself which I pull out and read out loud "Tavin Lancaster, hair color black, eye color grey, height 185 cm, age 16," my eyes widen as I read the last part as I stare at the picture, I guess I do look a bit younger, I quickly store the wallet and ID and rush into the master bathroom and look into the mirror, yep I've definitely deaged somehow I've even gotten shorter, I let out a sigh at least I haven't fallen below 6 feet, I pull out the Archmage's robe and give them a quick (observe).

Archmage's Robe (Legendary)
These well worn yet fine robes are surprisingly comfortable and serve as a badge of office for the leader of the college of Winterhold.

Talk about direct upgrade, I immediately equip it and activate (create instant dungeon) and suddenly in the blink of an eye I back in the white void with a menu in my face.

Please select your dungeon type.

[Empty]

[Greenskins]

Well I did come here to grind so I select greenskins before another menu pops up.

Please select your tier.

[Tier 1]

I raise an eyebrow, what's the point of showing my the second menu if there's only one choice, I pick tier 1 and I'm immediately thrown off as the void shifts around me before I find myself standing in a dense forest looking into the mouth of a large cave, I'm tempted to start wandering around the forest just to see what happens but as soon as that thought enters my head my mind is suddenly accosted by a feeling of wrongness so I enter the cave but not before summoning a contingent of spectral knights to serve as bodyguards.

The first major problem I run into isn't even an enemy it's the simple fact that unlit caves are very dark wouldn't you know, still the problem is easily remedied by summoning a couple of unseen servants and hand them some torches from my inventory, I mean sure we'll draw all the enemies to us but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for vision so we continue heading down the tunnel until we come to an opening and I cast (invisibility) before heading inside without my spectral knights and I come up on a ridge overlooking around ten small green skinned creatures sitting around a large cooking fire with a big metal pot suspended above it, I doubt I'll have any trouble dealing with them but I decide to use (observe) just to be safe.

Race: Goblin

HP: 30

SP: 30

MP: 0

Strength: 3

Dexterity: 6

Endurance: 3

Intelligence: 4

Wisdom: 2

Charisma: 1

Luck: 5

Thoughts about you: Isn't aware of you

Just as I thought they're no threat to me, I extend my index finger in their direction and send a (fireball) down at the group which breaks my invisibly but that doesn't really matter as it strikes the cooking pot before violently exploding leaves only a pile of charred goblin corpses in its wake, as I'm about to order for my summons to join me my head suddenly snaps back to the goblins as I hear the sound of a bell ringing in that direction and my eyes track an arrow flying at me from the darkness, the shot goes wide a bounces off the cave wall before I hear the sound of scurrying feet getting farther away.

Well since the runner is bound to alert the rest of the enemies I summon around twenty spectral warriors, five spectral archers and a couple frost atronaches, I also send the unseen servants along with a knight to lead the group deeper into the cave while the rest of my knights and I head back into the tunnel to wait, I start looking through the eyes of the knight who's in the middle of his group and I watch as my summons mow through the waves of goblins that clumsily try to ambush them, the fighting itself is pretty boring since my summons are far more powerful and skilled than the goblins but one thing I'm noticing is that even though the enemies are weak I'm getting an insane amount of experience from this.

By the time I my little raiding party reaches the final chamber of the cave I've actually managed to gain a level and the only casualties they suffered were three of the warriors, one of them was overwhelmed and they lost the other two to traps, in the last room itself the found a bugbear in full plate armor welding a warhammer along with two goblin shamans who cast buffing spells on him and a quick (observe) revealed him to be by far the strongest thing in this cave, not counting me of course.

Name: Varthag, War Chief's Vanguard

Race: Bugbear

HP: 750

SP: 550

MP: 0

Strength: 37 + 10

Dexterity: 23 + 10

Endurance: 29

Intelligence: 7

Wisdom: 5

Charisma: 8

Luck: 10

Thoughts about you: The invaders must be destroyed

At the knight's command the host of spectral warriors charge straight at the bugbear while the large frost atronaches hang back to protect the archers, Varthag lets out a battle cry while leaping into the air and slamming his hammer on the ground which creates a shock wave which destroys five warriors and knocks down the rest, the two shamans each fire some sort of acid spell at the archers but it ends up being block by the atronaches causing minimal damage, while the warriors are picking them selves up off the ground the knight advances into combat with the boss swinging down in a murderous arc with its longsword which the bugbear is just barely able to bat aside with his hammer.

The knight responds by bashing Varthag in the face with his kite shield which causes him to momentarily lose his balance and stagger back a few paces, by this time the warriors have all stood up and started to move to surround the bugbear and the archers have fired a volley at the shamans killing them both and without his allies backing him up it's only a matter of time before it's over since the boss can't defend from all sides at once, the second Varthag's body hits the ground my senses are forced out of my knight and a game widow opens before me.

I dismiss my notifications and use my new skill and I vanish in a flash of white light and I reappear where I was standing in my bathroom, well at least I have a way of reliably leveling now, I pull out my smartphone and mark down the time before I go back into the dungeon this time on greenskins tier 2, I'll need to get a whole lot stronger if I'm going to get back to Lydia and take revenge on that Psijic bastard let alone contend with the top dog in DxD.
