Path of the Gamer Chapter 1

A new lease on life

You know when I died I didn't think I would get into heaven, I wasn't exactly a good person after all, honestly I was hoping for no afterlife at all but now that I've been wandering around the white void for god knows how long I'm stating to think hell might have been preferable. Seriously if I have to keep floating around this place I'm probably going to lose it.

Greetings mortal

"Or maybe I've already lost it" I say as a floating text box suddenly appears in front of me.

Congratulations today is your lucky day you have been chosen to be the host of the gamer system.

Wait are you for real. "I take back everything bad I ever said about you white void this is the best day of my life! Or is that best day of my death?" I yell as I burst out into a fit of almost manic laughter. After I get myself back under control the text box flies up an a pretty standard looking character customization screen appears in front of me, I let out a sigh I've never been really good at designing characters.

Please create you character

I start scrolling through the options and realize that this Is much more in depth than I thought it would be. "I'm going to be here for a while." At first I try to make my character look like me before I died but part way through I scratched that idea. "I shouldn't squander this chance" this is basically a blank check to decide how I look even though I'm bad at this. It took a few hours but I think I've managed to make a pretty handsome ( at least to me) character using my old self as a template, I made myself taller, trimmed some of my fat, changed my hair color to black and I changed my eye color to a stormy gray, made my facial features more angular and masculine and yes I increased the size of my manhood a because I'm a child. Now that I'm happy with how the new me looks I select the confirm character customization option. As soon as I do this I'm flooded with a rush of sensation as I now have a flesh and blood body again.

Character customization confirmed, please enter name.

Now that I think about it I can't remember my name which is a weird thing to realize you can't remember but I remember other details about my previous life just not my name or how I died, I should be panicking or maybe upset but for some reason it just doesn't matter to me right now. In any event I still have to pick a name and after thinking about it for a few minutes my impatience gets the better of me and I enter the name Taven, its not very original but its the name I use for most of my RPG characters so I press confirm.

Name confirmed, Generating character sheet.

"what the hell! Where are my class options and why are my stats so low doesn't anything carry over from my previous life."

Notice: in order there are no classes available in this version of the game, your stats are average across the board for a baseline human and a lot of trash data had to deleted to make room for the game

"Trash data! that my life your talking about." As I go to continue my tirade I feel the anger inside me sort of just fade away as a calm comes over me "I guess that's fine this is my life now at least the stats and classes were explained." It looks like (Gamers Mind) is already hard at work, also skill creation seems insanely overpowered I guess it makes sense after all I am getting this instead of a class system. "while I'm just sitting here I might as well try it out but what should I go for" a few ideas go through my head before I settle on one, now I don't think this is going to work but if it does I'll basically be set.

Create Skill (Time Stop) failed

not enough MP, not enough Intelligence

"Yeah, that's about what I expected but the fact that its possible at all is crazy, still I should probably experiment with this a bit while I have the chance." First I'll lower the bar a bit and go with one of the classics.

Create Skill (Fireball) failed

not enough MP, not enough Intelligence

Okay a bit sad but also kind of expected I guess I'll have to get really basic.

New Skill Created (Firebolt) Level 1/100
You point at your target and send a small ball of flame flying at it
Does 10 + INT fire damage
Costs 10 MP

"Alright now we're getting somewhere" lets try a few more since firebolt work I'll try some other D&D cantrips since that seems to be more my speed for the moment.

New Skill Created (Ray of Frost) Level 1/100
Shoot a beam of ice magic at a target
Does 10 + INT cold damage
Costs 10 MP

New Skill Created (Shocking Grasp) Level 1/100
Grab a target and channel lightning through it
Does INT lightning damage per second
Costs 20 MP per second

New Proficiency Created (Illusion Magic) Level 1/100
Measures the users skill at using their magic to weave illusions
Illusions are slightly easier to cast and victims of your illusions find
them to be a bit more difficult to see through

So I tried to create minor illusion (my favorite cantrip in D&D by the way) but this happened maybe minor illusion it too vague for it to be classed as a skill so I guess proficiency's will show how good I am at broad skills were as actual skills are more like special moves. That's good to know but maybe I should stir away form magic for now and try making something else.

New Skill Created (Power Strike) Level 1/100
You put everything you have into your next blow dealing more damage than usual
your next melee attack deals STR x 2 in addition to your normal damage
Cost 50 SP

New Skill Created (Flurry of blows) Level 1/100
Unleash a rapid series of melee attacks in quick succession
number of attacks is determined by DEX
Deals STR/2
Cost 30 SP per attack

New Skill Created (Iron Defense) Level 1/100
the user tenses their muscles just before a attack hits them reducing the damage taken
Damage is reduced by END

New Proficiency Created (Evasion) Level 1/100
Measures the users skill at avoiding attacks
You understand the basic principles of how to dodge simple attacks

New Proficiency Created (Stealth) Level 1/100
Measures the users ability to be unnoticed and hidden from others
You know the basics about moving quietly and staying out of sight

"Hmm should I make some weapon skills too, do I even have any weapons?" I need to check my inventory maybe I have some starting gear. When I think about opening my inventory a new window opens up in front of my skill menu and it basically just shows a bunch of empty space. I scroll down the menu for bit but it seems like It goes on forever and I don't find any items, another menu opens up to the right side of my inventory and its a pretty generic equipment screen which just shows that I don't currently have any items equipped. I close my inventory and equipment menus and decide on one more proficiency "Well sense I don't have any weapons and I don't know where I'll end up I guess I'll just go with this."

New Proficiency Created (Martial Arts) Level 1/100
Measures the users skill at hand to hand combat
you know how to properly throw a punch or kick and know a bit about
defending yourself from attacks

"Alright I think that's good enough for now," closing out of my skill menu I select the option to finalize my character.

Character creation complete please complete the tutorial to continue.

When the text box goes away my vision fades to black and as soon as a can see again I find myself on the outskirts of what looks like a ruined medieval village but there are no signs of life anywhere, suddenly another text box appears in front of me.

Find and defeat the tutorial boss to proceed

As soon as I finish reading the door to one of the nearby huts bursts open and the undead corps of a peasant shambles out of it, its a solid 30 feet away form me as I think that it turns to face me and lets out a high pitched screech before it starts slowly lumbering towards me. My first instinct from reading gamer stories is to use observe but I quickly realize that I don't have that skill so I try to make it.

Notice, (Skill Creation) is locked during combat

"Shit!" the zombie is about 20 feet away from me now so I hurry up shoot a firebolt at it, the spell slams into its in chest and it staggers backwards and lets out a scream of pain. It has a black spot on its chest where the firebolt hit it but I can't really tell how hurt it is, undead are usually weak to fire so I shoot two more firebolts at it, one hits it in its leg but the other one hits it square in the face the zombie twitches and falls over. I get a notification that firebolt has leveled up and that I gained some EXP, so I decide to check out the hut the zombie came out of and It seem empty so I go in and shut the door behind me I need to rectify a mistake.

New Skill Created (Observe) Level MAX
The user is able to gain information about a target in their line of sight

"I'm surprised this wasn't one of the starter skills", as I'm talking to myself I hear a few more shrieks coming from outside so I peek through a crack in the door and see three zombies stumbling around in front of the hut, I test out my new skill on them and it turns out that all three of them have identical stats.

Zombie Peasant

HP: 50

STR: 6

DEX: 2

END: 6

INT: 1

WIS: 1

CHA: 1

LCK: 2

Thoughts about you: Hasn't noticed you yet

Alright, the zombies are pretty weak but then so am I, I need to play this smart their DEX is bad so the should be pretty slow as long as I keep my distance and don't let them corner me I should be able to take this group but first I have an idea.

New Skill Created (Flash of Light) Level 1/100
The user creates a burst of blinding light from there hand
targets that fail to resist are blinded for INT seconds
Costs 40 MP

I open the door take a step outside and immediately cast flash of light and the two zombies further away clutch their eyes in pain but the one closest to me seems unaffected as it approaches me and swings its arm at me, luckily I'm able to duck underneath its swipe and deliver a power strike right to its face. The zombie stumbles back and I sweep its legs out from under it then I sprint towards the place I spawned at to gain distance. After that I basically just kite the much slower zombies around while spamming firebolts until there all dead, well more dead in this case. My firebolt, flash and power strike all leveled I also leveled up.

Name: Tavin ( no title)

HP: 120 (6 per minute)

MP: 120 (6 every 10 seconds)

Strength: 6

Dexterity: 6

Endurance: 6

Intelligence: 6

Wisdom: 6

Charisma: 6

Luck: 6

Points: 5

Okay so it looks like all my stats increase by one and I also get five points to spend each time I level. I ultimately decide to raise my INT to 10 because my magic has been my most powerful tool so far and I put my remaining point into END because you can't go wrong with more health. so now my stats are looking like this.

Name: Tavin ( no title)

Level: 2

HP: 140 (7 per minute)

MP: 200 (6 every 10 seconds)

SP: 140 (7 every 10 seconds)

Strength: 6

Dexterity: 6

Endurance: 7

Intelligence: 10

Wisdom: 6

Charisma: 6

Luck: 6

Points: 0

Alright I'm pretty happy with that even though my mana regen didn't increase, I guess that must be tied to wisdom. Anyway I take in my surroundings I'm on the edge of the village and there are no enemies around me its not like I know exactly where to go but I can make a guess. I crouch down and try to quietly make my way to the village center, as I'm slowly moving through the village I come across a few wandering groups of zombies but I'm able to stay hidden as I work my way to the center, I even get a few notifications that stealth leveled a bit. I eventually make it to the center of town while still remaining hidden what I see in front of me is the most obvious boss arena I've ever seen, its a wide open space with nothing but a larger house in the middle. I cautiously begin to walk over to the house but as I get halfway there my suspicions are confirmed when the door and a large section of the wall suddenly explode outward kicking up a cloud of dust in the process, I immediately start backing up and preparing my magic. Once the dust settles I see a huge hulking figure in front of me, I cast observe.

Zombie Giant

HP: 300

STR: 20

DEX: 4

END: 15

INT: 2

WIS: 1

CHA: 1

LCK: 3

Thoughts about you: You are food

Oh that's not good, this fucker is almost eleven feet tall and has more than double my health not to mention the fact that his strength is even better than his endurance so I quickly cast flash of light in the hopes of blinding it but that only seems to piss it off as it starts charging at me. My DEX is still better than his so I should be able to outrun it as long as I'm carful with my SP, so I go with my tried and true strategy of kite the slow boss and spam ranged magic which works well for me until I get the boss to around half health, when he rushes up to me I get ready to run as usual but then the bastard stomps his foot on the ground creating a shockwave which throws me off balance just long enough for him to get a hit in, I activate iron defense at the last second for what little good it does me. I literally go flying back landing on my ass and I see my HP plummet as I take 90 damage if I didn't have the game I would probably be dead or dying but I do have the game so while I still feel pain I'm able to get my feet back under me and dive out of the way just in time to avoid getting curb stomped. After that indecent the fight proceeds as before for a few more minutes, I'm careful to avoid any stomps and before long the giant zombie falls over charred almost black from my firebolts.

Level Up, Level Up, Level Up,

You completed the tutorial congratulations!

Here are you rewards

10 Credits

(Zombie Slayer) title
Deal more and take less damage from zombies

Gacha Token x 3

As I read that my vision goes dark again for a moment and then I'm back in the white void again. I don't know what the game has panned next but before that I want to spend my points first so I open up my menu and allocate my points and equip my new title. I choose to bring all my stats to at lest 10 because I like multiples of 5 and I raise my INT and WIS to 15 because I think I've fallen in love with magic casting, I also put 2 points into DEX because it saved my life and 1 point into END more health can't hurt after all. I still don't know what to use credits for so I leave them alone for now.
