Chapter 1
A once taboo jutsu, the reanimation jutsu, was forbidden up until right after the 4th ninja war, but so many were lost, so many sacrificed, it wasn’t fair, and if reality could be bent by others trying to destroy the world, couldn’t they figure out a way to bend it to better it? They’d had enough suffering, hadn’t they? So a group of shinobi devised a plan to turn a taboo jutsu in to something good. The leaf village, with much work, and much thought established a way to use the reanimation jutsu once every few years for those that had passed, had given their life for the village. The system was set up so that members of the leaf village could donate their bodies in death, just as one donates organs, but rather than donating just an organ their whole body was devoted. There were strict rules that applied to ensure that the person donating their bodies was fully consensual, and there was a lengthy paperwork process. The rules were as follows:
1. The person must be close to their time, no one was allowed to sacrifice their life in place of another, there would be no switching bodies, the cause of death must be natural, accidents and wounds were not permitted so to prevent others attempts to increase available bodies for the jutsu when the time came.
2. You were not permitted to reanimate yourself.
3. You did not get to choose who you reanimated, the reanimations were done in alphabetical order, and at random.
4. Those reanimated were given a choice to accept the reanimation or release it and possessed complete free will with only the condition of being not allowed to bring harm to others.
5. The jutsu was for only 48 hours.
6. All medical costs and funeral service costs were waived for the individual that donated and a blessing ceremony was held after so that their bodies and souls rested peacefully.
7. There were a select few who would work together to perform the reanimation jutsu, who were trained extensively to perform it with confidentiality, comfort, safely and at ease.
This jutsu was only permitted to bring happiness, no further suffering, a chance for the living to speak to their loved ones again in their lifetime. Thus was born, reanimation day. The first day definitely had their bumps and bruises and struggles, but seven years later when the second day happened, things went smoother, and it seemed many of the reanimated were expectant of the experience, and even excited, though they couldn’t recall well of how they obtained their knowledge. It seemed the longer the animated was present the more they forgot of the afterlife, referred to as the pure lands, though there didn’t seem to be much effect on the knowledge obtained during reanimation as those who’d been reanimated before could recall events and memories, and even information given during reanimation appeared to be passed on after release of the justu. It was just like a one lane highway of sorts, information could be given but very little received. That was fine, though. Those to be reanimated were chosen by family and friends, paperwork was submitted and filed to keep track of who was reanimated and when, number of bodies available went in to the factoring of how many letters were went through.
Today was reanimation day, and it was the the third time of the reanimation day occurred, it had been 14 years since the first, and since they worked in alphabetical order this time it was letters N-U, this means this year Namakazi, Uzumaki, and Uchihas were being resurrected. The Leaf village better get ready.
