Chapter 22

The goods were on fire.

"See what can be salvaged and inform the traders from Suna of this development. Do not bother with asking for time or discounts."

She was going to murder Shimura Danzo.

She glanced at Mikoto, unhidden in the gathered crowd even with her simple clothes, before turning to face away from her and walking around the perimeters to see what was left. She was nor going to be begging for help, neither was she going on to rely on someone like that woman to get back on top.

"Hisako."

"I'm fine. Please do help me with seeing if anyone is injured."

All of her hard work, an year of it by now, was ruined. Completely burnt to the ground by an 'accidental fire'. She looked at the officers, all Uchiha, shooing away the onlookers and already putting out the fire, slowly beginning to work their way to form an investigating party to see if it really was an accidental fire or something else. There was no point in their efforts, knowing Danzo he had burnt all of the important goods and their was no proof of it being non-accidental.

She didn't need to turn to look at who approached her from behind. There was only one person who would do so.

"Lets go back. There's nothing left here anymore."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"I can't."

He didn't speak for some time. She didn't bother with a conversation either. That silence between them perhaps spoke more for Shisui then Hisako's words.

Hisako Uchiha was angry. She was tired and exhausted.

After all, what else could she do now? What else could she do but start again? This time, with more things than before but with even less time. She was tired of what she knew will come. Her body demanded for her to fall down and crumble just as her mind was. But she couldn't.

So many lives depended on her, even if she tried to not care about them at all. Her life depended on this. Shisui depended on this.

She had to stand strong.

"Hisako."

"I said I can't-"

She turned around to meet his eyes, only to see that everyone had already left. The sun was peeking out in the sky, the birds chirping as the day began.

"How long has it been?"

"We've been here the whole night."

And what should she say to that?

"Let's go home, Hisako."

"Ok."

Yes. Home was nice. She wanted the comfort and warmth of her home. She wondered if he knew that her home was him. Perhaps. Perhaps not.

"I'm tired."

"Me too."
