Hinata starts to head home after some training when she sees that the sun is starting to set. She has been training more and more at the academy ever since she started noticing the tension in the compound. She can't explain it, but she thinks it started about when Neji started to show up less and less (he even missed her birthday which he never has.) and when father stopped looking at her and forcing her to train more.
When she reaches the compound gates, no one is there; no Uotcha, no Haru. She then gets this feeling in her stomach, like she just swallowed lead. She continues forward into the compound and the feeling in her stomach grows heavier, then she smells iron. It grows heavier. She hears a quick scream, and as soon as she hears it it stops. She feels frozen in place as one thought is one her mind. She activates her byakugan and runs as fast as her legs can carry her to the main house. She can see 4 chakra signatures in the main house and she tries to ignore the lack of chakra signatures from the rest of the compound as she runs. She then sees a smaller signature she recognizes as Hinabi run in between to bigger ones she can also identify as her father an…and Neji. She feels the lead grow heavier. She sees Hinabi get knocked to the floor and then start to fade, she picks up the pace.
She races to the main living room and sees Hinabi on the ground, bleeding. Next to her is her parents on the ground, chakra fading. Lastly, she looks up to the one who did this, with one question on the tip of her tongue, “W-w-why?”. She didn’t even know when she started to cry, her eyes were starting to hurt from having the byakugan active this long. Neji looks up and stares at her for a second, then he spoke in a cold calculating monotone voice, “Hinata. Small meak Hinata, don’t you see that it is fate that drove me to do this. Fate drove me to get stronger, and stronger. Fate that you find me here and now. I did this to see, truly see the limits of my strength, the limits of my eyes. Now I have seen what I could do.”. Hinata stands horrified, letting what he said sink in as she watched parents die in front of her. After all of that she doesn't believe he could do this, the Neji she knows would never attack, let alone kill, everyone in the clan. He began to speak again, “I will let you live so that one day you may get as strong as me, so that when you are strong enough I may test the true limits on our eyes, and the only way that you may get this strong is to close off your heart, make no friends and hate. And let that hate drive you so that one day when you are strong enough, fate will lead you to me.”. As soon as he finished speaking he was behind her, then nothing.
What she remembers next is waking in a hospital with the news that Hinabi was on life support, she was on life support for the next week, until they had to pull the plug. It was then another month until she was allowed back to school. And in that month she trained almost every day until her fingers bleed, until her eyes burned, until she collapsed from exhaustion. As she will get strong enough to kill him for what he has done. She will make it a reality. It is her FATE.
