Chapter 12
The first symptoms started 3 weeks after Sasuke’s birthday. They left the rainforest a week after his birthday. Sakura and Sasuke were walking in the woods together looking for a spot to camp outside near a civilian village. She stopped in her tracks with one of her hands on her stomach and the other supporting her against a tree. She bent down into the same position and her hand that was supporting her on the tree went to her mouth. Sasuke stopped dead in his tracks when he heard Sakura stop and he looked back to see her in that position. The emotions of confusion, worry, and concern flew into his mind as he jogged to her. He set his hand on the back of her cloak and crouched down to her level.
“Sakura? What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Sakura only shook her head, which told him that she wasn’t okay. She pushed him out of the way in a hurry and that brought more confusion, but that stopped when he saw her start to throw up near the tree she was once using as support. Sasuke went to her other side and collected her hair so it didn’t get in the way and so the vomit wouldn’t get on her hair. He wasn’t counting how long this lasted, but it felt like a lifetime once Sakura had stopped vomiting. She took the time after she was done to catch her breath before using a hand to help her up. She turned to Sasuke and her face was filled with fatigue.
“Can we stop, please.”
Sakura asked in a tone that sounded like she was begging. He simply nodded and led her away from the vomit since he could tell that if she stayed near it she would vomit again. They stopped after about a minute of walking. Sakura was leaning against Sasuke for support.
“Do you know what’s wrong?”
He asked, helping her take off her cloak. It needed to be washed and there was a source of water nearby so that wouldn’t be a problem.
“Food poisoning probably. Will be fine in a few days. I want to stop so my stomach can ease a little bit and so I can sleep. I feel so tired all of the sudden.”
Sasuke only nodded. The both of them went out to a restaurant not that long ago before settling back off into the woods to their next stop. They’ve mostly been avoiding the bigger villages since the hidden gems of the world weren’t really near them. Sakura didn’t mind it since she already knew what was found in most hidden villages. Sasuke lifted his cloak to wrap Sakura in it. They leaned on a tree for comfort. She rested her head on his shoulder. She murmured something into his shoulder that he didn’t understand and before he could ask she was already asleep.
While she slept Sasuke kept guard while his lone arm was wrapped around Sakura. He was incredibly worried. He knew Sakura didn’t get sick that easily and he also knew they practically ate the same thing at the restaurant. He trusted Sakura’s judgment since she was the doctor in their relationship. They had the same course of food, but the things they asked for as sides were different from one another so that was understandable. He was planning to wash her cloak when she woke up later. He didn’t feel the need to move and how Sakura was clinging to him made it difficult to move.
“Sakura, I may not be a doctor, but I don’t think this could be food poisoning. At least when I’ve had food poisoning it doesn’t last this long.”
“I’m a doctor and my body is different from yours. I swear it’s just food poisoning. I don’t get sick easily, but when I do it’s always bad.”
“Whatever.”
It had been a week since the symptoms had first started. Her breasts were starting to get sore, which bothered her a lot, and she could barely stay awake after walking for a while. Sasuke ultimately decided to just camp out until she felt better.
“If I don’t feel better tomorrow will it make you happier if I went to a doctor. Tsk, I’m the best one out here, but whatever.”
“Yes, I would since you’re always terrible with your health in the first place when we were back in the hidden leaf that everyone would be worried when they haven’t heard or seen you in days.”
It caught Sakura off guard with how worried Sasuke seemed. Her lip quivered before tears rolled down her face. Why was she acting this way? Why is she even crying over this? She wiped away her tears before they became too much.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know why I’m crying.”
“It’s fine.”
Sasuke planted a kiss on her seal. If he needed to he would carry her to the next village to see its doctor, but Sakura was strong so he would only offer that up if she really needed it. She would also probably feel very pitiful since she wanted him to see that she was strong. Even strong people break and need help. He knew that especially. If he didn’t he wouldn’t be here now happier and engaged.
They traveled to the closest village the next day, which was the one that they had dinner at last week. It was better to back track than searching for a different village since he knew that one was closer than the next one, which would take 4 days in her current condition to get there. Her throwing up happened at different times each day. He could see that she was losing a bit of weight from it all so he made sure that she drank a lot of fluids and ate even if she didn’t want to.
Sasuke and Sakura sat in the waiting room for the doctor to be done with the patient that was before Sakura. She hated being in this position. Doctors make terrible patients after all. Still made her irritated that Sasuke didn’t trust her diagnosis, but that thought disappeared when she thought about how worried he looked. She was called in about 10 minutes after they arrived. Sasuke stayed in the waiting room since Sakura insisted on it. She would rather find out what’s wrong by herself so if it was anything life threatening she could break the news to Sasuke privately without a random doctor there. She sat down on the examination table and faced the doctor in front of her.
“Hello, doctor. I do apologize for this. I know what the problem is. My fiancé just wanted me to get a check up since he doesn’t believe me even though I’m a doctor myself.”
“No worries, it’s natural for other doctors to get check ups even if they know what’s wrong. Always better safe than sorry.”
“Yeah, I suspect I have food poisoning. It’s been about a week since it started. I would suspect it to be something else, but when I get sick it and that’s rare so when I do it’s typically very bad.”
“Hm, interesting. I don’t think that could be the case. Typically it would only last almost a week, but nothing more than that. I’ll run some tests just in case it’s anything else. Do you have any other symptoms?”
“Well I’m more tired than usual, but that is due to how much we’ve been traveling. My breasts are also sore, but besides that I’m fine.”
“I think I have an idea of what is going on with you, but I’ll run tests just in case.”
The doctor performed the necessary tests moments later. Why was he doing the necessary tests for pregnancy? There’s no way she could be pregnant. Wait. Her symptoms were matching up with early signs of pregnancy. Oh god. How was Sasuke going to react when he finds out? They weren't even married. She also knew for sure that when they did it in that cave they certainly did not use protection. She always knew she wanted to be a mother, but she wasn’t even 20 yet. Would she even be a good mother? The mother she had to deal with growing up was horrible to her. Would she pass that to her baby?
“As I suspected you are pregnant. Congratulations. As a doctor you know the importance and the procedures for your pregnancy.”
Sakura just stared at the man and nodded. It was now confirmed. How did she not even think about there being a chance that she was pregnant? Her mind probably wasn’t even thinking that it was a possibility.
“Thank you, doctor. I should've realized the signs, but I appreciate it. Have a good day.”
Sakura got off the examination table and left the office. She still was in shock about her being pregnant. She was happy, but also very worried. Sasuke looked up from the seat he was in. Asking with his facial expression, Sasuke questioned if she was okay. Sakura gave him a nod and a smile. She was going to tell him later. She was given medication to help with the nausea.
“What did the doctor say?”
Sasuke questioned, as they walked towards the woods once again to continue their journey.
“I’ll tell you after we eat I’m really hungry.”
“Hn, we have leftovers from what I made the other day.”
During the week Sasuke ended up cooking most of their meals. He just ended up just cooking the animals he would find in their current location. The leftovers they had as of right now were fish. They had a fish each remaining that was cooked on a stick. He believed that this would satisfy Sakura’s stomach, but little did he know. Hours later while they ate the conversation came up again when Sakura spoke up.
“I’m sorry.”
Sasuke’s head looked up from his meal and over to Sakura, sending her a confused glare.
“For what.”
Sakura set down her fish onto the bowls they have been using. Her hands went to her face as she began to cry.
“I’m pregnant.”
Sasuke wasn’t able to decipher what she was saying since it was so mumbled out.
“What?”
He approached her and wrapped her in his arm with a tight embrace. It wasn’t until she calmed down that he was given the answer he was searching for.
“I’m sorry. I know we’re not even married and I don’t want to force you into this. It’s a big commitment. We’re also on the road during our trip and you’ll want to go back, but I don’t I still want to be out here with you.”
“You need to tell me what this is all about first.”
Sakura looked up at him, her eyes still glassy from crying.
“I’m pregnant.”
Sasuke didn’t have any words at his current state. It didn’t register fully for him that he was going to be a father for a few moments. Sakura looked at him worriedly since he wasn’t answering and it looked like she was about to cry again if he didn’t say or do something. When happiness started to register in his emotions he smiled down at her pulling her back into a hug.
“We’ll figure it out together.”
They sat in silence while Sasuke was alone in his thoughts. They were already expecting a child and they weren’t even married just yet. If his father were alive he certainly would be very disappointed that he didn’t wait until marriage. His mother would be disappointed at first, but she would accept it quicker than his father would. He believed his brother would be very happy for him either way. The same thought that Sakura had came into his mind too. Would he be a good father? His father might have been around and wonderful, but he always felt lesser due to how he treated him versus Itachi.
“I’m just happy that you’re okay with that.”
“Of course I am. I would be a terrible person if I wasn’t and I want to be better. Even with it being unexpected I am very happy. Thank you, Sakura, for giving me a family again.”
“Of course, Sasuke-kun, but you got me pregnant after all. We might have been Naruto and Hinata at that. At least your stupid rivalry will have you winning something for once.”
Sasuke sulked at her words, which caused her to giggle. She pinched his cheeks causing him to chuckle slightly.
“Sakura.”
“Yes?”
“I know it’s unexpected, but before you start getting bigger do you want to get married as soon as possible? I also know that you wanted to wait to get married so all your friends could see, but there is a new situation that would push that further away and be more complicated.”
Sakura stared at him with her eyes widening and her blush getting bigger.
“It’s fine by me.”
“It’s settled then.”
Sakura set her hand on her stomach. She wasn’t going to be showing anytime soon since she was early on, but she still couldn’t believe it. She was having a baby with Sasuke, the man she’s been dreaming about since she was younger.
“I still wish you would return to the hidden leaf, but you are quite stubborn.”
“Of course I am stubborn and I will always say this, I am a doctor and I know how my body works better than you in some cases. I’ve handled a lot of pregnancies as a doctor and I know everything that needs to be known. We can continue traveling and we’ll accommodate my pregnancy. See, not that hard.”
She crossed her arms, looking up at Sasuke. Her mood swings were going to get worse as time went on along with some symptoms of pregnancy. Her breasts would grow in a few weeks. She knew Sasuke would like that and she also knew that she would have to live with having bigger breasts. As much as she dreamed of it when she was younger, she was kind of resenting it since that meant extra weight and she would have to get used to it. They needed to keep it on the downlow as well since if news broke she was carrying the next of the Uchiha name it would make everything very complicated. Everything was already complicated. It’ll be fine. They would return a little bit before she would give birth so she can be home around her friends and family along with her hospital.
“I know it’s very early, but what are you hoping for, Sasuke-kun?”
“I have the slightest inclination that we’re going to have a girl.”
“Yeah, something is telling me that too. A little princess.”
“Yeah.”
“Also, just remembered. I have my seal so nothing can happen to our baby if I have it activated.”
“As long as they’re okay.”
“We’ll be just fine. I’m very strong and not weak.”
“I know you’re not weak.”
———-
They traveled to the next village, taking stops to accommodate Sakura if needed. The medicine that she was given helped her nausea quite a lot so there weren't as many stops as there were before. Even if the doctor prescribed these she checked them over before using just in case. They were fine either way. She also knew she would run out after time, but she could use the herbs around her to help. Sasuke insisted on purchasing an inn in this village and Sakura decided not to question it. He was already being protective and she wasn’t even showing yet. The inn might also be due to them getting married soon and Sasuke wanting to do something nice.
She currently sat on the bed, wrapped up in a blanket. Sasuke was currently in the shower and she was waiting for him. She was very tired, but she also wanted Sasuke to hold her as she fell asleep. It had become a new habit that she was enjoying. They were getting married in two days. Tomorrow would be used for purchasing the required clothing and whatever else was necessary for the wedding. Then the next day they would be married. The village would be helping them get situated in the morning before the ceremony. No one from home would know of it until they would return home alongside her being very pregnant. Sasuke exited and joined Sakura on the bed. His hair was still wet and he didn’t have a shirt on. Her arms reached out for him in a hugging manner. She was honestly acting like a child right now, but she was blaming hormones. He planted a kiss on her lips. He could tell she was tired and that she didn’t want to go to bed until he was there.
“Sleep now.”
“Okay.”
When the next morning hit she was separated from Sasuke to go look for her wedding kimono while Sasuke went to look for his montsuki-hakama. She knew it would be white while Sasuke’s was black. Sakura also didn’t know how to feel about wearing so much makeup, but it was for a special occasion. She was definitely going to have to spend time washing her face tonight. There wouldn’t be any guests, just the priest and them. The priest would act as the one to oversee the marriage along with marrying them. Sasuke wasn't picky when it came to the choice of which montsuki-hakama we decided on so he was set for the next day. As for Sakura, hers took a lot longer. They needed to accommodate her pregnancy even if she wasn’t showing yet and they needed the correct measurements. She needed to look perfect on her wedding day. After the wedding they would take a photo to remember the occasion. Their wedding attire along with their photos would be sealed in a storage seal that would go in either of their bags.
Sakura arrived hours later back to the inn they were staying at. Who knew this would take this long? She also knew that if Ino was here it would take even longer, which she was happy about. Ino was definitely going to kill her when she gets back and ask her for so many details. At this point she’ll probably miss Ino’s wedding too. Along with a few others. She laid down on the bed. Sasuke wasn’t here for some odd reason. She did question why. She knew he wouldn’t take that long with his outfit for tomorrow. Sasuke arrived back into their room minutes after Sakura questioned where he was. Turns out he went to get food for the both of them.
“I didn’t know what to get you so I asked and they said for you to eat something that gives you a lot of benefits. They recommended a few things, but I got you salmon since you deserve it.”
“You’re too sweet, Sasuke-kun.”
She took the cooked salmon from him, sending him a smile before she started to eat. Nothing much went on for the rest of the night. Simple deep conversations and making out into the night before Sakura fell asleep. Sasuke always checked the area before falling asleep just to make sure no one was there to harm them. Even if they were in an inn it didn’t matter to him.
Sakura was already gone by the time Sasuke woke up. He panicked at first, but then he realized what was going on. They were getting married today. His mind wanted to wander into his thoughts, but couldn’t due to knocking at the door. He was greeted with villagers that were sent to help him prepare for the wedding.
Sakura was woken up to light tapping on the door. Sasuke was still asleep, but she knew what this was all about. She kissed him on the cheek and she unraveled herself from his arms, carefully so he didn’t wake up. She left in the clothing she was currently wearing due to the fact that it would be best since she is getting ready for her wedding. As of right now she just finished getting pampered in the bath. With a robe wrapped around her, she sat in a chair as they did her nails and toenails. They would be starting her hair and makeup once they were done with that. Lastly she would be put into her wedding attire. The nail art she was given matched her dress with its white aesthetic, but had a light shade of pink that was a flower on both of her index fingers. Her hair was pinned up with a cherry blossom. The makeup on her face brought out her features. Simply like that she was ready for her wedding.
The process for Sasuke was a lot shorter so he was able to relax for a little bit before he needed to start. He took time in the shower and once he was done he sat in a chair as they blew his hair dry. Typically he would be against people touching him, but this was all for Sakura. He prepared the plans and already paid for the expenses. This was something that didn’t happen all the time. When it was almost time, Sasuke got into his attire for the event. With his heart pounding, he followed the villagers to where he needed to go.
Sasuke couldn’t stop the tears that would fall down his face once he saw Sakura. She was truly beautiful and he was so lucky. He didn’t deserve her. As for Sakura, she was keeping her tears at bay. She didn’t want to ruin her makeup. When she reached Sasuke she took his hand smiling at him.
“Let’s do this, anata.”
“Hn.”
The ceremony was short and sweet. They exchanged a few words between each other. By the end of the ceremony they were officially married and Sakura was now a Uchiha. They took photos and enjoyed the meals the village had prepared for them. This wedding was prepared in such a quick manner, but it was perfect. They spent the rest of the night making love to one another. Sakura insisted that it was okay for the baby. Her hormones made her extra hornier anyways.
Their journey as husband and wife now may start.
