The mouthwatering smell of bacon wafted through the house, waking up a happily dozing Inuzuka from his early morning nap. Rain pattered softly against the window pane, its soothing thrum lulling him back into his sleep for a few moments before a crash sounded further off in the house. He groaned, rising from the bed with a languid stretch while the person in the other room fussed over something he couldn’t quite make out.
Kiba sighed, rustling his hair as he pulled on the discarded sweatpants and padded his way into the kitchen. Hopefully this time the damage wouldn’t be too severe.
He paused in the doorframe, breathing in the intoxicating scent of her freshly baked bread, her subtle vanilla perfume and the lingering cinnamon that spoke of her ire. Her back was to him, fussing with a softly crying child as she allowed her chakra to rise to the surface and heal the little one’s bloody knee.
“All better, Suk,” She cooed, scooping up the child in her arms to place a soft kiss on her crown. The child smiled, babbling something incoherent to her mother before grabbing a thick lock of her lengthy bubblegum strands.
He watched, entranced, as she turned to face the little boy hiding behind the table a few feet away. She still looked as young as ever, her jade eyes shining with vibrancy, having matured only slightly in the decade they spent together. She hadn’t aged much at all, still retaining not only her looks but the almost child-like wonder of the world, eager and curious to learn and explore. Her gentle nature had lessened somewhat, but he supposed fighting in a war and raising a family would do that to you and really her fiery nature had only served to further entrance the already smitten man. He watched her bend to catch the elusive child as she fought to keep from jostling their youngest, “As for you, Sou-chan. You know better than to run in the house!”
The boy ran, hiding behind Kiba as some sort of make-shift shield from his angry mother. He sighed as he picked up the crying boy, nuzzling his temple and growling in a soothing manner to his youngest son, “What were you running for, Souta?”
“I just wanted to play,” the boy cried, snuggling into his father’s hold and whimpering, “I didn’t mean to hurt anyone..”
Kiba sighed, glancing up at his wife who had merely huffed before handing over their little girl and taking her boy back, “I know, sweetie, but you have to be careful. Suki’s still small and she could’ve really gotten hurt.”
The boy nodded, wiping his eyes with his little hands before hugging onto her neck, “I’m sorry, mama.”
“Shh, it’s fine baby,” she cooed, rocking Souta as she kissed his crown. Her little boy was growing up far too fast for her liking. His overgrown chestnut locks hung around his face in a wild array and she silently lamented the loss of cute baby cheeks. Peppering his little face with quick affectionate kisses, she giggled as he squealed in her hold and hugged him all the tighter.
She glanced at the clock, noting how late it was getting, and rushed to finish cooking. Setting him down, she ruffled spiky hair before nudging him gently out the kitchen, “Go wake up your sisters okay, Sou-chan? Breakfast will be ready soon.”
He hollered out a quick ‘kay’ before rushing out the room and she turned back to wash up and finish making breakfast. Eggs, bacon and other various foods were left on the counter for quick use while several dishes had begun to pile in the sink. Giving his little girl a kiss on the head, Kiba sat her down in her high chair before shuffling over to his busy wife. He held her round the waist, nuzzling into the crook of her neck and peppering the soft skin of her neck with kisses much to her delight.
“Kiba, that tickles,” she hummed, wrapping her arms around his and squirming in his hold. He groaned, intoxicated by her lovely scent and the press of her smaller frame against his. Nipping her sharply at the junction of her neck, he relished in her sweet moan and her quiet submission as she bared her throat to the amorous dog nin.
“Ewww, get a room!” a girly voice called, snapping the two apart as their daughters promptly gagged at the open display of affection. The oldest of the two flushed nearly as pink as her hair, throwing her arms up in exasperation while the younger of the two shrugged nonchalantly and settled herself at the table with a sleepy ‘good morning’ despite the rest of her sister’s ramblings.
“Shut up, Yume. It’s too early for all this yelling,” the younger girl grumbled, plucking an apple from the centerpiece and wiping it precariously on her shirt before taking a bite. Tired green eyes slid to her younger brother who rushed into the room and nearly ran headfirst into the table if it wasn’t for his sister.
“Watch where you’re going, squirt,” Yume growled, lifting Souta up by the back of his shirt. He mumbled a quick ‘sorry’ before scooting closer to the younger twin. She scooped him up and settled him beside her, grabbing a kunai and cutting up an apple for him quietly. Rolling her eyes at her twin, Yume settled across from the pair after grabbing a plate from the counter, “You spoil him, Yumi.”
“It’s not his fault he’s so hyper,” Yumi hummed, passing a freshly cut slice to her brother who munched on it happily. She shot the boy a lazy smile and passed him another slice when it was requested. Yume snorted but contented herself to her food, passing little bits of omelet to Akamaru, until there was a knock at the door.
“I’ll get it,” Kiba sighed, shuffling over to open the door with Akamaru right on his heels. He paused mid sentence as a large black dog jumped into his arms, maw opened in a happy woof.
“Daichi, get your monster off me,” Kiba complained, wheezing as his eldest got a handle on his companion. The large dog moved albeit reluctantly as it sat beside its master, head hung low as Akamaru growled and barked at his pup in reprimand.
Daichi rubbed the dog’s ear in reassurance and smiled at his father, “What no ‘I missed you son, how was the mission’?”
“That’d be my line,” Sakura smiled, rushing to envelope her disheveled boy, “I’m so glad you’re home, baby.”
Daichi smiled, hugging his mother back just as fiercely, “I missed you too, mama.”
Pulling away, she gave her son a quick once over noting the dirt and blood clinging to his uniform. Chakra flaring to life, she pressed her palm to his cheek, scanning his body for injuries as she fussed over the soaked man, “Really, Daichi, you have to be more careful! Oh, my poor boy, you should’ve told me you were hurt.”
“It’s fine, mama, really,” he soothed, relaxing into her touch as his eyes slipped closed, “I feel better already.”
“C’mon, hun, let’s get him in the house. You look like hell, boy,” Kiba frowned, guiding his son to the bathroom where he could clean up. Glancing over at Daichi’s companion, he frowned and noted the missing patch of fur near his hind quarter and the limp in his stride, “Yoru’s gonna need help too, babe.”
“Great,” she sighed, maneuvering around the bathroom with practiced ease as she tended to a semi-healed gash on Daichi’s forearm, her chakra lighting up the bathroom in a soft green glow, “C’mere, pup. Let me take a look at you. Can you please feed Suki, hun? It might take me a little while here.”
Daichi frowned as Yoru limped over, patting his beast on the muzzle affectionately as Sakura turned her attention to his partner, a frown on his face as she demanded to know what had happened to her boys. Daichi sighed as he recounted his latest failure and shot his pup an apologetic glance, “He got caught by another animal tamer. Dog was massive, nearly bit his leg off.. I healed what I could, but I’m not really cut out to be a medic nin.”
Yoru whined softly, licking his master on the cheek and laid his head on his lap while Daichi ran his fingers through his short, dirtied fur. Sakura hummed, healing the bones quickly as she watched her boys with a sad eye. Once finished, she bumped her son on the head and chided him gently, “He’s fine now, Dai-chan. Just be more careful, okay?”
“Yes, mama,” he sighed, standing once more as she ushered them into the tub and brought a change of clothes before scooping up the dirty laundry.
“Ugh,” she groaned, the smell of mud and blood strong in her nose as she hurried to throw them into the wash. She shut the washer with a quiet slam and hurried back to the kitchen to find her girls arguing over something or another, teeth bared as they practically flew across the table at one another. She felt a vein pulse, her head pounding and with a quick slam, she managed to crack the table in half, shocking her daughters out of their fight, “That’s enough, both of you!”
“She started it,” Yume growled, withering under her mother’s harsh glare.
“I don’t care who did what. If you want to fight then take it outside,” She snapped, pinching the bridge of her nose as her youngest started to cry. Kiba held Suki and Souta close to his chest, growling softly in a soothing purr as their crying died down to sniffles. Casting an angry glare at her two daughters, she moved over the counter, tossing two sacks to her kids who caught them with ease, “School starts soon, and I don’t want to hear one thing from Iruka-sensei, you hear me?”
“Yes, mama,” the girls chorused, shooting a glare at one another before hurrying out the door, an umbrella in hand as they dashed through the rain.
Sakura sighed, deflating as she eyed the broken table, “Ugh, just great! That’s like the third one this month. I need you to get a hold of this brood, Kiba.”
Kiba only smiled, rocking the kids back and forth before settling them down in their beds, “You’re the one who wanted kids.”
“I know, but don’t lie,” she smiled, looking down at the sleeping pair. Viridian eyes glanced at her mate, a hum on her lips, “You know you love making them too.”
They heard a gagging noise from behind, turning to see Daichi fresh out the shower and looking at them, horror etched into his face as he hurried to his room, a bouncing Yoru on his heels.
“Think he’ll come out anytime soon?” Sakura laughed, stepping out and closing the door quietly behind them.
Kiba grinned, a wolfish smile on his lips as he pulled her in close, “If he knows better then probably not.”
“You’re insatiable,” She laughed, kissing him soundly before he followed her back to their room.
He smiled, jumping into bed much to her amusement, “I love you too.”
