Pride was more colourful than I ever could have imagined. It was bright. It was loud. It was everything and more than I could have ever dreamed.
The best part was having a girl on my arm to experience it with. Kissing the one I loved in front of church people who had nothing better than to stand around with signs filled with words of hate, for people they’ve never meant.
Waving as the parade of people went by. Dancing in the street with other people like myself. Ten year old Emily, hell even fourteen year old Emily never could imagine seeing or experiencing something like this.
Melissa and I went to Pride every year that we could. Every year we went to a different one but San Francisco was our favourite. It was home for us. It was where we felt like we could be ourselves the most.
