Summary
**Set after the episode on Friday 29th November, where Carla and Lisa officially become girlfriends.**I've tried to capture the characters' vibe and imagine how their lives could have unfolded during the two-week drought, with some slight differences to the ‘on screen’ story/ spoilers, as i needed to find a way to wrap it up. it starts off quite fluffy, but there will be some drama and angst toward the end.

Chapter 7

The day at the park began with a crisp winter sun shining brightly in a sky painted blue, dotted with soft, fluffy clouds. The ground was dusted with a shimmering layer of frost while trees stood majestically, their branches adorned with remnants of last night's light snowfall. Lisa, Carla, and Betsy wandered along the winding paths, their chatter ringing through the air as they admired the beauty of the season.

Betsy, with her trademark blend of teenage sarcasm and mild annoyance, walked a few paces ahead, casting occasional glances back at her mum and Carla. “Seriously, are we really doing this?” she quipped, her brow arched in mock disbelief, although a hint of curiosity lingered in her eyes.

Carla met Betsy’s gaze with a cheeky grin. “What’s wrong with enjoying a picturesque winter day in the park with your delightful mam and your ace boss?” Her teasing tone lightened the mood, eliciting a reluctant smile from Betsy.

“Just don’t expect me to carry any of your bags!” Betsy retorted without looking up, although the edge in her voice had softened, hinting at her gradual acceptance of this new reality. The playful jabs felt gentler today, signaling her tentative embrace of their evolving family dynamics.

As Lisa captured Carla's eye, a thrill of electricity shot through her when their fingers brushed, igniting a warm spark between them against the frosty air. They exchanged a secret smile, their connection deepening with each covert glance.

When they reached a charming playground dusted with snow, Lisa and Carla settled onto a nearby bench while Betsy casually slumped onto a swing, pulling out her phone. She began scrolling through social media, completely absorbed. Hearing her Mum and Carla share a quiet laugh between them, she shot them a sidelong glance, raising an eyebrow but not pausing her scrolling.

“Who would’ve thought this day could turn out so wonderfully?” Carla mused, her voice low enough not to disturb Betsy’s engrossed state.

“Honestly, I’m surprised too,” Lisa admitted, watching Betsy engrossed in her screen. “But she’s starting to warm up to you being part of our lives; there’s noticeably less eye-rolling than usual.”

Carla laughed softly, letting her hand graze Lisa’s intentionally, igniting a familiar thrill between them. “Perhaps she just needs more time. Change can be tough, especially for a teenager.”

“True,” Lisa said, thoughtful as she gazed at her daughter. “But today feels like a turning point. She’s actually chuckled at your jokes instead of shooting those trademark glares.”

Just then, Betsy sighed dramatically and tossed her phone onto her lap, looking up at them. “Okay, can we wrap this up soon? My followers are waiting for my next update!” She rolled her eyes with theatrical flair but smiled just enough to hint at her playful mood.

“Social media updates definitely deserve ice cream, right?” Carla suggested, raising her eyebrow at Lisa, inviting her to join the fun.

“Absolutely! Ice cream is like the ultimate prize for Instagram fame,” Lisa agreed enthusiastically.

As they made their way through the park, the nerves surrounding their new family dynamic seemed to melt away, replaced by the warmth of shared laughter and anticipation. The day had blossomed into something truly special, a moment of budding acceptance and joy, perfectly setting the stage for their next adventure together.

After a delightful stroll, roaming the park, filled with laughter and playful banter, the trio reached a quaint little ice cream stand.

“Who knew ice cream would still be a thing in December?” Lisa exclaimed, half amused, half thrilled.

Betsy, despite her tendency for sarcasm, was uncharacteristically quiet, rolling her eyes at the couple whenever they stood too close, but it was more playful this time. She seemed to enjoy the moment just as much as they did.

As they gathered around the ice cream stand, the air filled with creamy scents and the joyful chatter of passers by. Seagulls, oddly bold for their location away from the seaside, flocked around like they owned the place, squawking and pecking at bits of rubbish left by others. Littered wrappers provided a bizarre feast for the winged intruders, and they flitted about with shameless confidence. The trio, now all with ice creams in hand, watched the show of birds in annoyance.

Trying to ignore the sight of birds feasting on litter behind them, Carla decided that now would be a perfect time to reel off some of her puns. “Alright, I’m going to entertain you both!” Carla declared with a playful gleam in her eye. Fetching her phone, she opened a note titled “Ice Cream Puns,” the result of a brainstorming session with Ryan the night before. “Why did the ice cream truck break down? Because of a rocky road!”

Betsy groaned and rolled her eyes but couldn’t help giggling. “Oh god, just when i thought i couldn’t take anymore. Please tell me you have better ones.”

“Just wait!” Carla grinned. “Here’s another, ‘What do you get when you cross ice cream with a snowman? Frostbite!’”

Laughter erupted from the Swains, not because the joke was actually funny, but because the mood was light and carefree. Just as Carla was about to take another lick of her ice cream, a brave seagull swooped in, snatched the ice cream from her hand, cone included, and flew away.

“Nooooo!” Carla gasped, her mouth dropping open in disbelief. “Did that really just happen?”

Betsy and Lisa erupted into hysterics, the sheer absurdity of it all sending them into fits of laughter. “Two and a half weeks to Christmas and you lose your ice cream to a seagull-Classic!” Betsy teased, unable to contain herself.

Carla feigned deep sorrow, one hand clutching her stomach in mock despair. “How will I ever recover from such a tragic loss?”

Despite her humor, laughter bubbled up inside Lisa as she gestured towards Carla’s empty hand, which still hadn’t moved from it’s cone-holding position. “Who knew nature would be so cruel? At least the seagull got an upgrade!”

As the giggles settled, they moved on from the ice cream stand, Lisa and Carla still slightly breathless from laughter. Betsy, finally catching her breath, turned to the duo with a mischievous sparkle in her eyes. “Muuuuuum, can I stay at Sabrina’s place tonight?.”

“Of course!” Lisa replied, glad for Betsy’s choice to spend time with a friend and proud that she had managed the day with the ‘boomers’, as she playfully called them.

“Thanks Mum! You’re the best!” Betsy chirped, practically bouncing on her feet. She looked at her boss, “And make sure you tell everyone how a seagull stole the cherished ice cream of a serious adult. That will be the highlight of my week when the gossip starts at the factory!”

With playful waves, they parted ways as Betsy skipped toward the bus stop, leaving Lisa and Carla to stroll hand-in-hand, free from the constant eye rolls of the teenager.

As they walked, Lisa broke the comfortable silence, her voice light with happiness. “Today turned out better than I expected. Betsy seemed to really enjoy herself.”

“Absolutely! I was a little worried at first, but she did so well, bless her.” Carla replied, glancing at Lisa with a warm smile. “I think, deep down, she loves spending time with us.”

“It's nice to see her opening up,” Lisa said, her eyes sparkling. “I think your ‘boomer’ jokes really helped break the ice. Who knew ice cream puns could be such a hit!”

Carla chuckled, her eyes twinkling. “And who knew that ice cream theft would be a bonding moment? I think she’ll always remember that!”

“Definitely! The way she laughed… it was contagious,” Lisa said, feeling her heart swell with joy. “I’m so glad we can make these memories together.”

“Me too,” Carla agreed, squeezing Lisa's hand and stealing a slow passionate kiss. “Days like this make me really appreciate what we have. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Lisa beamed, feeling warmth spread through her. “Neither would I. It's just wonderful to be with you and share these moments.”

They continued down the path, smiles on their faces as the sun began to set, reflecting their happiness. Carla glanced at Lisa, with a teasing smile, and asked, "Can I be bold and make a request that you spend the night at my place?"

Lisa raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. “Is that an invitation or a threat?”

“Just an invitation, I promise! We could snuggle up on the sofa and watch a movie?” Carla replied with a mock-serious face. “Your choice: romcoms or horror.”

“Hmm, a tough decision,” Lisa mused, tapping her chin. “But I think horror sounds like a good idea. I need to scare off the thoughts of that seagull!”

“Perfect!” Carla laughed. “So, what do you say? Ready for a night of thrills and chills?”

“Absolutely! Let’s do it,” Lisa said, squeezing Carla’s hand as they walked onward, excited for the cozy night ahead.

Arriving at Carla’s flat, the familiar sight welcomed Lisa like a warm embrace. “Welcome back to my humble abode!” Carla grinned, swinging the door open wide. Inside, the cozy atmosphere enveloped Lisa. Warm lighting cast a soft glow over the living room filled with inviting furniture and scattered cushions she had grown fond of during her previous visits.

“I swear this place feels even cozier every time I come here,” Lisa remarked, her eyes slowly wandering around the room.

“Thanks! I like to think of it as a sanctuary,” Carla replied, pride sparkling in her eyes. She bustled to the couch, fluffing up the cushions in an exaggerated way. “Make yourself at home. I’ll grab us some snacks!”

As Lisa settled onto the couch, a sense of comfort washed over her. She observed Carla glide through the kitchen with ease, her warm and inviting nature radiating throughout the space. In moments like these, Lisa could feel herself falling deeper for Carla. Even though neither of them had articulated those three little words yet—‘I love you’ - It was a strange blend of exhilaration and uncertainty, a happiness that thrummed quietly in her heart. A moment later, Carla returned with a bowl of popcorn and two large glasses of red wine, plopping down beside Lisa with a playful grin. Each interaction only strengthened Lisa's growing feelings, solidifying her belief that this new relationship held something truly special.

“Okay, pick your poison, lady! Which horror flick are we diving into tonight?” Carla asked, using a dramatic tone that made Lisa laugh.

“Let’s go for the classic ‘The Shining’—you can never go wrong with a good psychological thriller,” Lisa suggested, a glint of excitement in her eyes.

“Perfect choice,” Carla said with enthusiasm. She set the popcorn in between them and dimmed the lights, the room transforming into their own cozy theater.

As the opening credits began to roll, a familiar thrill filled the air. They nestled close, their bodies brushing against one another, sharing warmth beneath the soft blanket Carla had draped over them. Lisa felt her heart race—this was a new level of intimacy for them, and though she’d visited many times before and they had had their fair share of intimate moments, staying for the night felt domestic, like a new adventure.

About half an hour into the movie, a particularly suspenseful scene had Lisa clutching Carla’s arm tightly. “Oh my god, I forgot how scary this movie is!” she squealed, instinctively burying her face in Carla’s shoulder.

Carla chuckled, wrapping her arm around Lisa and placing a soft kiss to her head. “Just remember, I’m here to protect you!” she teased, giving her a warm squeeze.

Lisa looked up, catching Carla’s gaze. The moment felt electric, an unsaid connection lingering between them. “I think I feel safer now,” she whispered with a soft smile, feeling a warmth blossom inside her.

Their laughter echoed nervously against the chilling soundtrack of the film, slipping into a comfortable silence. As the night deepened and the movie progressed, Lisa felt the layers between them start to peel away, revealing a deeper understanding and connection than ever before.

With the warmth of Carla beside her and the rapid beats of the horror film providing distraction, Lisa knew this night was unlike any other. She was ready for whatever came next, heart racing with excitement, fear, and something far more profound blooming in the space between them.
