Summary
Iruka is in the middle of a lesson at the Academy when he hears a commotion coming from Kurenai’s classroom. Just as he was contemplating going over to check, he hears a loud crash followed by silence, then the sound of thundering laughter coming from across the hall. Iruka, worried about his pregnant coworker and friend rushes over to check on her, only to discover Kakashi Hatake of all people who had seemingly tumbled over and was sitting slumped on the ground next to a chalkboard eraser, with remnants of chalk dust on his sage green vest and mask. Next to him stood a cackling Naruto holding onto his belly trying to stop himself from doubling over with laughter.

Iruka's POV

“Kakashi san! What are you doing here? Are you ok?!” Iruka exclaimed as he hurried to pull the disgruntled Jonin to his feet.

“It seems as if I’ve been pranked hah” Kakashi spoke aloud embarrassed

“No kidding” Iruka rolled his eyes. Then promptly turned to look at Naruto who had quickly stopped laughing as soon as Iruka walked into the room

“What is the meaning of this Naruto! You think you can prank anyone who walks into the room, just wait until tomorrow you'll have to write a full-page apology to Kakashi San here!”

Iruka yelled at Naruto, displeased by his actions, who was staring back at his Sensei with a cheeky grin while rubbing the back of his neck, not expecting to get caught.

“Hehe sorry Sensei, I didn’t know you'd show up here” Naruto mumbled giving a quick glance towards Iruka, trying hard not to look at Kakashi who was now leaning against the blackboard with his hands in his pockets.

“I’ll deal with you tomorrow, get back to your seat!”

“Yes Sensei”

Iruka turned around to look at Kakashi “Kakashi san can I speak with you outside for a minute?”

Kakashi panicked for a second before he nodded at Iruka and followed him to the hallway outside the classroom, Iruka closed the door behind them.

“Where's Kurenai Sensei, and why are you in her class?” Iruka asked confused

“Oh, of course, you don't know yet, Kurenai had her baby this morning, and she asked me to be her substitute while she’s on maternity leave” Kakashi explained lazily looking over at the kids in the other classroom who kept glancing at him curiously, probably Iruka's students he thought.

“What! When did she have her baby?! No one told me! And why are you substituting for her? Aren't you an active Jonin who has missions to complete! Is she ok? How's the baby?!” Iruka rambled on until Kakashi finally cut him off

“Yes everybody's okay, the baby, Kurenai, Asuma, everyone's doing okay. And actually, I volunteered to substitute for her, I thought it’d be fun and give me some time off from all the missions and plus less nagging from Tsunade sama.” Kakashi half lied, not wanting to expose himself and the real reason he wanted to substitute for Kurenai. No one is dumb enough to volunteer to take care of 30 pre-genin students with pent-up excitement about their upcoming graduation.

Kakashi scratched his mask-covered face and continued “But I now realize that was a mistake and these kids are more unpredictable than many of the Jonin I’ve come across in battle haha”

“Oh, so you’ll be here for a while?” Iruka asked, quickly blushing at his inquiry, a little nervous from standing so close to the copy nin, this being the longest conversation they’d ever had

“Yup, that's the plan. Will that be a problem for you Sensei?” Kakashi smirked at how that just made Iruka even more flushed

“Uh- n-” Iruka was stumbling on his words when Pakkun suddenly appeared running down the hallway towards Kakashi.

“Yo boss, just met with the new parents and they said they appreciate your help and can't wait to see you. They also sent this letter for you and told me to tell you to ‘enjoy your view'’”

Pakkun glanced at Iruka who seemed to be confused by this and added “Whatever that means”

Now it was Kakashi’s turn to stumble on his words and feel his cheeks turn pink, actively avoiding eye contact with the young sensei. He was definitely going to kill Asuma the next time he saw him.

Kakashi coughed, before quickly mumbling “Uh yea thanks Pakkun, I’ll go visit them after work today, you can go now”

“Thanks, boss, see ya later” and with that, Pakkun disappeared into a cloud of smoke

“So, uh, you're gonna go see them right after work?” Iruka asked a flustered Kakashi

“Yeah, I was, since I didn’t have time this morning. That’s why I had to send Pakkun to congratulate them”

Oh, so that's why Iruka had seen Pakkun running down the street this morning

“Mind if I tag along?” Iruka inquired, fumbling with the zipper on his vest
