First day of school

“Settle down class!”, iruka shouted as he entered the classroom arms full of scrolls.

Your conversation with Naruto stopped abruptly as you watched Iruka walk to his desk. Silence took over the class as he placed the scrolls down. Turning towards you all he scanned everyone, he smiled when his eyes landed on you sitting in the middle desk next to Naruto.

“I’m sure you’ve all noticed by now--”, Iruka started.

You groaned—of course everyone knew what he was talking about. It was you. The new student. Which they couldn’t stop whispering about as soon as you stepped foot in the room and went sat down with Naruto. ‘who’s that new girl’ and ‘what is she doing in here’, and among other things is what you could hear as the students glanced at you.

You could almost feel your heart drop to your stomach, knowing he was about make you do something you really wouldn’t like. Introduce yourself to the whole class.

“—We have a new student.”, Iruka gestured his open hand in your direction, turning everyone’s attention from him onto you, “why don’t you stand and introduce yourself?”

No thank you!

Your heart raced as the weight of all the other students gazes settled down on your shoulders. Putting your clammy hands on the desk you pushed against it helping your weak shaky legs to lift your body up. Naruto grinned at you as you sat up. You could feel your face get red hot as you shyly glanced around, Shikamaru was looking at you, Kiba, Shino, Choji, Ino, Sakura—everyone was looking at you, even Sasuke seemed a bit interested. Blinking hard you plucked up to courage to speak.

“My name is y/n and…”, you paused trying to think of something but nothing came to mind, your mouth felt infinitely dry no matter how many times you swallowed, “and I hope we can all be friends.”, you decided to end it like that and looked at Iruka hoping he thought that was enough of an introduction for you to sit down. He nodded as he smiled at you releasing you from your misery.

Relief flooded your system as you finally took your weight off your knees and sat back down on your chair with a small thud.

“That was great y/n-chan!”, Naruto whispered.

You gave him a dejected smile. It definitely didn’t feel great. Sighing you looked away from Naruto. Propping up your elbows on the table you hid your face in your hands, ignoring how wet they felt from the stress sweating you had just done. Rubbing your cheeks, you tried to wipe away the heat that had settled on your face. That was horrible---god what a terrible first impression, they probably thought you were really weird now!

Iruka though didn’t seem to want to leave your introduction there as he decided to keep going, “y/n has just moved into Konoha and will be joining this class, so be nice and try and help her if ever she needs it”

You felt yourself blush even more at his words. It made you seem like a baby or something.

Iruka deduced that everyone understood his wildly embarrassing words as some nodded, and turned to begin the lesson of the day.

You twisted your brown strands as you finally felt everyone’s attention switch to Iruka, the excitement of a new student arriving finally dissipating. As the lesson slowly started you felt yourself relax into it listening intently. Unlike Naruto who was leaning his head on his hand dramatically staring exasperatedly at the board where Iruka was writing math equations.

You chuckled in your mind, you couldn’t afford not to listen. You had to catch up. You were happy to see though that the math they were learning was the same as the math you learned back at your world, even more happy to see that some of the stuff you had already learned. The other subjects had been the same except history and obviously shinobi stuff. Everything you learned in that subject had been completely new and very interesting but there were many things that you didn’t understand and with that came the crushing feeling of being behind—you had a small inkling you were gonna feel that for a while.

You were definitely gonna need help.

Hmmm, maybe another student could help considering most of them did grow up with this stuff being the norm. Maybe Shikamaru could help. He is known as the smartest, sorta. Glancing at him in the corner of your eye you noticed he had his head down on his desk seemly sleeping away the lesson.

OK than. Definitely not him, he’s smart but he’s kind of lazy and probably would think it would be a ‘drag’ to help you. You needed someone book smart that remembered everything and was a hard worker. You just had to get the stuff down properly before you started to use it in training( which you were gonna have to start today with the help of Iruka, at least you thought so)

Looking around you subtly went through your options of people you knew, first was:

Naruto: he’s the student with the lowest score so no. Sorry Naruto

Hinata: could work but she’s a little shy so it might get in the way but who knows

Sasuke: he’d probably say no and you also don’t want a mob getting angry at you for getting close to ‘their’ Sasuke.

Kiba: almost as clueless as naruto in a way

Shino: 50/50 chance of him saying yes

Choji: you don’t really know his level of intelligence when it came to ninja rules and stuff.

Ino: she wouldn’t be too bad but she’s not the smartest in the class

Next is….Aha! That’s it. How could you forget!

The most book smart person in this class was sat almost right next to Ino only a couple people away.

Sakura. She was proved to have always gotten the highest scores on exams and she even finished the written chunin exam. She’d be perfect! You would learn a lot from her and maybe even gain a friend in her.

Deciding you wanted her to help you, you spent the rest of the class thinking of how you’d ask her and every scenario that could happen. You even thought about what you’d say if she yells at you—which she probably wouldn’t do but you never know, she might have been having a bad day.

The rest of the class went by breezy, you had learned today specifically how to throw kunai, which you were gonna have to practice at home. Even with the class being fun you still felt quite exhausted and sighed in relief when Iruka announced the end of the class.

The sound of people putting their scrolls and pencils surrounded you as everyone got up to leave. As you gathered your minimal amount of things you spotted Sakura. She was already up and making her way to the door.

Oh no! You had stop her!

Quickly getting up to catch her, you could only get out a small ‘Gimme a second!’ to Naruto before rushing off to Sakura’s receding form.

You didn’t want to miss the chance to ask her for help and also you had spent a good hour building up the courage and you weren’t about to waste it by hesitating! No way! You weaved through students as they gave you weird looks, excusing yourself. Reaching her just as she was about to leave the class you tapped her on her shoulder, effectively catching her attention and stopping her stopping her. She turned around almost annoyed before she realized it was you and her features changed to cheery. Weird…she seemed to have expected someone else, maybe Ino or Naruto.

“Hey, you’re the new students! Y/n, right?”, she asked.

Blushing you smiled nervously, “yeah that’s me”

“I’m Sakura Haruna.”, she introduced herself a gorgeous smile plastered on her face, “ did you need anything?”

Alright! Now to go with your plan. Just how you rehearsed in your head, “oh that’s good!”, you said in fake relief letting your shoulders relax, “I was hoping you were Sakura. Iruka told me about you.”, obviously this was a lie but you were pleased to know your acting was good when her face morphed into slight surprise, “he told me you were one of the smartest students in the class when it came to studying and grades.”

Her eyes widened before she turned away bashfully a small blush on her face, “ well I wouldn’t say that but sure”, she twirled her hair in her fingers. Even though on the outside she seemed humble she was cheering loudly in her head ‘that’s right I am!’. You could almost imagine it; inner Sakura cheering behind her.

“Well I was wondering—and you can totally say no.”, your nervousness wasn’t an act as you looking away anxiously towards the passing students before looking back unto her beautiful green eyes. She stared back into your own, curiosity swirling in them.

“if you would help me study? …please?”, you spoke in a soft voice, almost afraid to ask. You were quick to start explaining when you saw her eyes widen, afraid you might have somehow said something wrong, “it’s just I’m really behind and I really don’t want to be!—and as iruka sensei said you’re the best student for this and-“

“yeah of course I don’t mind!”, her sweet voice cut off your rambling. You paused staring at you owlishly for a second.  Is she for real..?

“Wait really? You don’t mind..?”

“of course not! I love studying, and you seem nice so it might be fun!”

You blushed brightly, your heart fluttering at the compliment as you returned it, “you seem really nice too.”, your mind felt like it was swirling right now!

Her laughter seem to lift a weight off your shoulders. You smiled knowing you’d have one of the smartest students helping you study. It made your path seem much less rocky now. Thank god! Maybe it won’t be so hard!

“Well I usually have nothing to do on Fridays so how about we walk together after school and go somewhere to study.”, Sakura suggested.

You eagerly nodded, “ That would be perfect!”, today was a Wednesday so you’d only have to wait 2 days. Ohhhh you already couldn’t wait! You hoped you could become friends with her, she’d make an amazing friend—plus she was your favorite character(if you cant tell). Your mind was racing as you imagined all the fun you could both have together. Well at least you hoped you’d have fun together.

“Great than ill see yo—”

“heyyy Sakura-chan”, someone interrupted. You both easily recognized who it was.

It was Naruto. He had gotten up from his seat after spending a good minute watching you and Sakura talk, and was now settled beside the both of you a small blush on his face as he looked at Sakura. You watched as her face turn sour as she scowled at him.

“Naruto!”, she scolded glaring at him, “I’m talking to someone! Go away!”

You lips drew into a thin line as you watched Naruto deflate. That’s something you always hated. How she acted towards him, and only of the opinions of the people around her. You settled your bubbling annoyance at the thought that her opinion would some day change when she gets into team 7. Maybe until then you could even help change her opinion faster.

Turning her gaze away from Naruto she softened at you. You quickly smiled hiding away your slight irritation as you once again stared into her eyes. Eye contact is key to good interaction even if your irritated! Remember that!

“well, I’ll see you later y/n.”

“Yeah see you later, Sakura.”, you bid her goodbye as she turned, her long pink blowing in the wind. You could almost smell her Sakura scented shampoo as she left the door. Turning to Naruto you noticed that her earlier offense seemed to have been forgotten as he looked her with admiration, a dreamy sigh leaving his mouth. He really liked her didn’t he.

You raised your hand to put it on his shoulder, wanting to grab his attention but you didn’t get the chance to as someone called out your name.

“y/n!”

Both your attentions were stolen away as you turned towards the front of the class where you had heard the voice. It was Iruka, he stood behind his desk a pile of scrolls beside him as he beckoned you over with soft eyes.

School talk probably, “right-um-“, you thought about Naruto, you had a lot to do tonight: grocery shopping, hokage meeting, talk with Iruka, and you really didn’t want to keep him waiting for long. Turning you gave him an apologetic look, “how about you go home. I have a lot to do and I don’t want to keep you waiting.”, you saw the disappointment flash in his face as he nodded solemnly. Feeling bad you quickly thought of something to lighten his mood, “ How about when I get home I’ll come knock on your door and we can eat together again? If you want?”, hopefully you could make it and your things would take too long.

It seemed to work as he perked up, “yeah! That’s a great idea!”, he nodded enthusiastically as he brought his fist up to give you hearty, approving thumbs up before turning towards the door. Not before yelling over his shoulder, “I’ll see ya later y/n-chan! Bye Iruka sensei!”

“bye Naruto!”

When his bright orange sweater left your view you finally started to make your way down the stairs that lined the desk. When you passed the student desks you finally got a good look at Irukas desk. What you saw made you cringe, scrolls of various sizes and colors covered his whole desk and then some. There were even small towers of stacked scrolls.

God—were you gonna have to read all this. Good thing Sakura would be there to help or else you think you’d die.

Settling in front of him on the other side of his desk you gave him a weary smile.

He seemed to notice as he gave you a look of pity, “ How was your first day y/n, was it good?"

“good, it was really fun but ya know there were a couple things I didn’t understand.”

Iruka nodded at this, “understandable you did come half way through the year.”, he crossed his arms over his chest, “now on that topic—yesterday I gathered all the scrolls you would need to catch up—and I know! This seems like a lot but just remember I will always be there to help you.”

You gave him an appreciative smile, “That’s alright I’ve already asked someone, Sakura. Me and her are gonna study every Friday. But, if ever I need extra help I’ll know who to come to.”

He almost seemed proud as he smiled at you, “already hard at work and making friends! That’s great!”

You scratched your cheek as it reddened from the slight praise, “Thank you, I’m just trying to catch up. I hate falling behind.”

“Yes of course it’s a rational fear everyone has. I’m sure you won’t, many people are willing to help.”

You smiled, you liked talking with iruka, he always had positive come backs and encouragements, it made everything feel easier. Although you knew you had everything down academically you knew physically and performance wise you’d be lacking. Which is something you still needed to ask for.

“I actually did need a little help with something.”

“Yes of course. What is it?”

“I’m-“, you paused almost embarrassed, you looked Iruka in the eyes, you calmed as all you saw was kindness in them, “I’m lacking in physical strength and—chakra control as well.”, you weren’t sure how to phrase the last part, you were probably gonna have to explain like you did with Naruto.

His brows raised as he crossed his arms, “well of course you don’t have good chakra control, not everyone does its normal-“

“no I mean-“, you interrupt, exhaling a sigh through your nose, “I literally have no idea how to control my chakra. I have never tapped into it. Back where I lived, it was almost as if chakra didn’t exist, my people knew about it but never bothered or needed to learn how to use it.”, his face grew more and more surprised as he started to understand, “ I need help with my chakra.”, you finalized.

He blinked for a moment before bringing his hand to his face as he went deep into thought, “ How strange. I’ve never heard of a village that never used chakra, almost to the point it didn’t exist.”, he paused, he seemed like wanted to ask you something but instead chose to search through the many scrolls in front of the both of you. He grabbed one presenting it to you, it was the size of your forearm and a light blue color, “this scroll talks all about chakra control, but before you read it I will give you a small lessen so you at least have a clue about what chakra feels like and looks like.”, he placed the scrolls in front of you on the desk, it made a small thud as it rolled side to side before settling down, “I assume that if you’ve never used your chakra you probably don’t know the hand signs by heart.”

You shook your head side to side solemnly a small red hue dusting your cheeks once again. Your lack of know how on all this made you feel stupid.

He nodded thoughtfully and smiled at you, “ it’s alright, you have Sakura to help you, and if your as hard working as I think, you’ll catch on quite quickly.”, he encouraged, he could see you were becoming disheartened.

You really hoped so, you couldn’t imagine failing and watching as everything went along in the show without you. Becoming a background character would be the worst thing to happen, worse than death even. OK maybe you were over exaggerating but still, worst thing that could ever happen!

“As for the physical part”, he started, “I have someone in mind that could help.”
Your interest peeked as you hummed, who could he be possibly talking about, “who?”

“His name is might gai”

Might guy..

MIGHT GUY!

HE HAS TO BE JOKING!

One of the strongest shinobi is gonna train you! Omg—that’s amazing!

 Holy shit!

 Yes!

Lets fucking go!

Pushing away your excitement you tried to seem unfazed as you put a questioning face, acting as if you had never heard the name when in reality you absolutely knew who Might Guy was.

Kakashi's eternal rival! Konoha's noble blue beast!

This was gonna be awesome! You couldn’t wait, you were gonna make sure to work hard with him! To become strong and catch up!
“Might Guy? Huh that sounds interesting.”, you said as you nodded, totally not freaking the flip out on the inside. If you knew how to do a back flip you think you’d do one right at the moment, not caring that Iruka would think it would be weird. You’ll probably learn how to do a back flip with Guy! Ohhh this is gonna be so fun!

“great then I’ll ask him if he wouldn’t mind training you cause he does have students of his own already.”, Iruka informed you, happy to have found a solution for your problem. “Now how about we pack all these scrolls for you to take home.”

“Um, I didn’t really bring a bag.”, you said hesitantly. You hadn’t really thought about bringing a bag, you didn’t think you’d have to bring a whole library of scrolls home.

Iruka though seemed to have thought of that as he pulled out a bag from his desk, “Good thing I brought one!”

Letting out a breathy laugh of relief, smiling at him, “yeah, good thinking.”, how thoughtful!

You both started to pack all the scrolls in the bag, Iruka explaining to you what every scroll was for before they went into the bag. You tried to remember but you knew that you’d probably forget most of what he said eventually. You’d just have to look through all of them and organize them. It’s fine.

As you both finished Iruka handed you the bag. God it was heavy! You looped your arm around it and onto your shoulder. As you checked out the scrolls you heard Iruka cough and looked up at him. It wasn’t a ‘I have an itch in my throat’ cough but a ‘I’m trying to grab your attention’ cough. Before he even started talking his face made you suspicious. Why did he look kinda worried or maybe guilty was the better word.

“So- The hokage”

The hokage?! What was this about?! Had you done something wrong! Already! But you don't even know what you could have done!

“He told me you were gonna meet with him to talk today and he said he wanted me to join you so I could listen in since I’m your teacher”

Oh….that’s it. OK that’s fine.

Your shrugged at him, “OK, that’s fine I don’t mind. It’ll just be extra company”, now that you thought about it, having Iruka there was probably gonna make you less nervous.
Iruka smiled his face lighting up as the worry washed away, sighing he walked around his corner a joined your side, “good! Let’s make our way over there than.”

As you both made your way out of the classroom, you wondered how this was gonna go.  You were finally gonna learn what the hokage meant about a high chakra level. You wondered if you would have to expose your snakes to the hokage, you might have to if you wanted an explanation.

You hoped this would go well.
