Finally settled
“ here you go y/n, everything is done, you will get an allowance at the end of every month, enough for clothes and food and until you become a ninja and get missions you wont even have to think about rent”, the hokage held his hand out to you with a smile, “your new home awaits.” In his palm you could see the shiny metal of a pair of keys, a lovely keychain hung from them, the Konoha symbol engraved into it and under it was a big wad of cash.
You smiled back reaching out and pinching the keys and money out of his hand, trying your best not touch his palm. You looked down at the keys as they jingled in your hand, a sense of exhilaration making your face flush as you felt their weight in your palm. These keys represented the start of your new life. You still didn’t know what you felt about that but you pushed it to be positive because if you didn’t you knew you would break.
“I trust you remember that you will start learning at the academy soon.”, way to remind a person of something they dread, especially since you had basically just finished your year but now you were starting your year all over again but now you were learning things that didn’t even exist in your world.
You looked up from the keys, “ Tomorrow right?”
“yes, you start tomorrow, I had Iruka, your new teacher, go get you your supplies yesterday so you should get all of them by tomorrow in class.”
You frowned deeply, the thought of school made you internally groan so loudly that your sure people could hear it, even if it was mentally. The hokage seemed to notice your displeasure towards the notation of school which made him smirk, “ nervous?”, he sucked on his pipe as he leaned back in his chair.
You swayed your head from side to side as you mumbled, “ kinda, I mean it is a new school and new people sooo.”, you shrugged, back home you moved around a lot due to your mom’s job so you were used to it. But this was completely different, you hadn’t just moved homes and school, you moved dimension.
“ it’s very understandable but Iruka’s students are quite nice, I’m sure they’ll be welcoming.”
If it was Naruto class you knew a group of girls who wouldn’t be too welcoming- especially if you posed a threat to their precious Sasuke. You chuckled, unsure if he was right, “ I hope so.”
He hummed in amusement, you opened your mouth to ask him something but were cut off as the hokage spoke, “ Well, now that everything is dealt with, you can go rest in your new apartment. Would you like for me to send someone with you so as not to get lost.”. You had wanted to ask the names of some of your classmates to know if you would be with any of the Naruto characters. But it seemed that you took too long.
You palmed your outer thigh to find your pockets to put away the keys and money. You could feel the stitching from where the nurses had sown up the holes created by that incident a couple of nights ago, not only had it left holes but your blood had died your orange oants to a now sorta brown. The nurse had tried her best to get it all out but alas your pants would never be the original color. You were really gonna need to go shopping for clothes soon. You couldn’t walk around braless in stitched up pj’s forever. Well, you could, but it wouldn’t look good, and fighting without a bra with big bitties isn’t a good idea.
“ I have many shinobi who know the village very well.”, he gestured his hand to the village behind him, all its wonders hidden in those maze like streets.
You funneled the keys and money into your pajama pants once you found the pocket slit as you thought about whether you would need a guide or not. In the end you decided that you did need a guide, even though you wanted to try and find your way around with help, you knew you would get lost and never find that apartment before sundown, so help it was.
You didn’t want just any random shinobi though, “ Could it be Iruka, please?”
The hokage chuckled and glanced at the man behind you, the one who had greeted you at the door and rudely, you might add. You stole glances at him. He had been standing behind you menacingly, listening intently to you and the Hokage’s conversation. You could feel his hot glare the whole time. It was honestly quite aggravating. The hokage waved his hand at him, and since he had been listening to your conversation, he didn’t need to be told what to do.
He grunted and bowed towards the hokage before making a hand sign and disappearing in a cloud of smoke. You gaped in amazement as the smoke faded. It was your first time seeing a jutsu, and that was amazing, you thought.
“You’ll be able to do that one day. “
You looked at him dubiously. You doubted you would be a great ninja. Maybe there was a chance that you would be, but if you weren’t you could settle for spending your days searching for a way home. The hokage saw the visible slump in your shoulders as you rubbed your arm.
He pointed at you with his pipe with a look of certainty, “ You have an immense amount of chakra. Something burns bright in you. You have great potential.”
Your eyebrows furrowed, “ immense amount of chakra? What..?”, what was he talking about.
He closed his eyes and seemed to think for a moment, “ That is a conversation for later.”, he glanced behind you, which caused you to turn your head back, curious as to what he was looking at. You saw nothing, but now that you were paying attention, you could hear people talking behind the door. You could make out three voices. “ For now, it seems it’s time for you to leave.”
As he said this a firm knock resonated from the door, a sudden burst of excitement ran through you as you realized that it was probably Iruka, you turned to the hokage a childish look on your face. He chuckled at your look and gestured his open palm towards the door, an invitation to answer it. You quickly sped to the door, almost running into it, as you wrapped your fingers tightly around knob. You quickly twisted it, and you were excited to see iruka again. He gave you a sense of security when you were with him. You practically ripped the door off its hinges as you opened it.
What you had wanted to see was Iruka standing in front of you, with his iconic nose scar and his spiky pony tail, but instead, what you saw was the harsh face of that man from earlier Your smile faded as he glared at you. He grunted before pushing past you, hitting your shoulder on the way into the hokage office. You turned to him and huffed, what a brute, you thought harshly, him and his ugly face,strutting around like some huge ugly gorilla. You scowled at him irritably as you rubbed your shoulder. You felt a small ach from the harsh jerk he gave you.
“Y/n?”
You gasped as you turned towards the voice that called your name, “ Iruka sensei!”, your scowl turned into a smile as you spotted Iruka standing between Kotetsu and Izumo a surprised look on his face.
He didn't think he'd see you so soon, “ It's good to see you again, I didn’t expect to see you soon? Are you ok? Are you sure you should be standing? What about your wound?”, he extended a hand towards you worriedly, gesturing to your stomach as he bombarded you with questions.
Kotetsu chuckled as he smacked his hand down onto Iruka’s shoulder, “ that’s exactly what I said. But check it she’s completely healed.”, he gestured towards you with a jerk of his head as iruka looked at you with questioning eyes. You got the hint and lifted your shirt up to show the scar to Iruka. He examined the scar with wide eyes.
“How did you-“
“ Iruka!”, the hokage called out to Iruka, who turned his head to look past. You let your shirt fall back down and quickly moved to the side to let him in.
He walked past you and stepped into the office with you following behind him, “yes, Lord hokage? What is it you needed me for?”
“ I summoned you here because y/n personally asked if you could be the one to show her around and bring her to her apartment.”
You blushed mortified that he outed you like that. You blushed even more when your eyes met with Irukas. You could hear Kotetsu and Izumo chuckling behind you. You quickly shot them a glare, which seemed to only spur their laughter. He smiled as you looked away shyly, “ Of course, we could talk about school on the way.”
The hokage brought his wrinkled hands together in satisfaction as he nodded, “ Perfect. Then you may go. Mustn’t waste any time”, he wasted no time in quickly going back to his papers as you looked at Iruka. He turned around a soft smile on his lips as he guided you out the door with him. You stole a quick glance at the hokage and stopped right before the door to wave goodbye at him, Iruka paused before he let you go and kept walking. Before you could walk away to join Iruka again, he glanced up at you, calling your name, “ y/n, remember to come see me after school tomorrow so we can talk.”
You threw him a thumbs up. You were kinda nervous about what he was gonna tell you, “ OK!”, he gave you a small wave as he exhaled smoke from his nose and watched as you disappeared into the hall.
As you left the Hokage’s office, you walked by both Kotetsu and Izumo. They waved at you as you made your way towards Iruka, who was patiently waiting for you at the end of the hall. You waved back at them, hoping maybe you could talk to them again. If you went to the chunin exams, maybe you would. But you didn’t think you were really gonna get that far. You know that you said you were excited when iruka proposed you joined the academy, but in all honesty, you were really out of shape and kinda lazy. Maybe you could ask someone to train you to get in shape and become stronger.
Before leaving the academy Iruka had decided to show you the way to your class, it looked exactly like the one you had seen before on your way to the hokage’s office, on one side of the class was situated a black baord with a small podium olaced in a way where the teacher could see all the students situated at their desks. Each row of desks was on a different height, the desks in the back being on the highest. This time, though, the class was on the second floor rather than the first floor. The way there wasn’t too complicated, so you were confident you wouldn’t get lost tomorrow.
Iruka seemed very interested in getting to know you, considering he wouldn’t stop asking questions about you while you two walked. He asked about favorite food, color, hobbies, animals, and much more. You answered all the questions as best as you could, and you even asked him some questions- which he gladly answered.
While exploring konoha you both ended up in a street with lots of shops, you admired most if not all of them as you walked by them, many had food cooking in them; dumplings, rice and even squid, everything looked delicious. The divine smell made your stomach rumble loudly as you almost drooled. Oh, how you could go for a big bowl of curry rice right about now.
Iruka laughed as he heard the small grumble of your stomach, “ Are you hungry?”
You blushed and scratched your cheek sheepishly, “ Yes..”, you felt embarrassed about him hearing your stomach grumble, but you hadn’t eaten a lot since the hospital.
He smiled amusingly, “We can go eat after visiting your apartment?”
You smiled,“ Yes, I would love to, I got money from the hokage so I can pay if you want.”, this man really was from heaven. If he hadn’t suggested eating with him, you probably wouldn’t have gone out. You hate wandering on your own. Too many people.
He waved his hands at you and brushed your offer off, “ it’s your first time in the village. I’ll treat you.”
What a gentleman, truly an angel
You thanked him for his generosity, and you both fell into a comfortable silence. You took this quiet moment as a chance to wonder back to what the hokage meant by an immense amount of chakra. I couldn’t possibly have that much chakra. You ran a hand through your hair as you thought about your snakes. Maybe they’re the chakra he was talking about. You racked your brain as you tried to think about something that could hint to it. You soon wondered to other things. You thought about clothes, what your apartment would look at and school tomorrow.
As you thought about school, you remembered that you had wanted to ask a question to the hokage about your classmates but had never gotten the chance. Iruka would be a better person to ask anyway, you thought as you faced Iruka, “ I was wondering-“
“IRUKA SENSEI!!”, a loud voice rang loudly through the streets, interrupting everyone from the things they were doing, including you. You both jumped and turned towards the source of the scream and spotted a small body jogging towards you guys. The annoyance you felt at being interrupted again was replaced by astonishment as your heart skipped a beat. You could recognize those blonde tuff of hair and those whiskers anywhere.
Iruka smiled and looked at you apologetically before turning and waving, “ Naruto!”.
It was Naruto! You couldn’t believe it.
He laughed as he reached you guys a big smile on his face as he stood in front of Iruka, “Iruka sensei what are you doing here?”, he seemed to have finally noticed you standing at Iruka’s side as he approached you. You felt uncertain under his gaze. You couldn’t tell what he was thinking of you right now. He hummed and looked at Iruka questionably, “ who’s this Iruka sensei?”
Iruka laughed as he put a hand on your shoulder moving you to be in front of him, “ this is y/n, she’s new to the village and she’ll be your new classmate starting tomorrow. “
You raised your hand in a small wave, “ hi”, like with any new person you were a bit more reserved and nervous so you didn’t really know what to say. New classmate, that means that im pretty early in the show, relief flooded your mind, you were happy you wouldn’t be classmates with literal children. Well, I guess that answers your question from earlier.
The face Naruto was making made you a bit self conscious, he was looking at you with pursed lips and furrowed eyebrows. Had you done something wrong? Did he already not like you?
Suddenly, a big smile broke out on his lips as he grabbed his goggles. He spoke in a loud and proud voice, “ Well I’m Naruto Uzumaki, and I’m gonna be hokage someday.”, Naruto didn’t expect much from you after he said that, maybe a small retort or a jab at his dream. What he didn’t expect was for you to smile back at him, you couldn’t help it his smile was just so contagious, and you found his introduction funny. He got right to the point.
“I believe in you.”, of course you did. You knew how it all ended, but you knew he needed the encouragement.
What was a nervous moment for you turned into a joyous moment. A small blush bloomed on Naruto’s cheeks as he looked at you, no one had ever believed in his dream, except for Iruka of course, who was watching you both with a fond look on his face. He patted your shoulder before moving out from behind you to stand next to you and Naruto. He turned to Naruto and pointed his head in the direction you two had been going before you were stopped, “ we were on our way to see her apartment and then go eat, would you like to come with us?”
You looked at Naruto hopefully as he turned to you. He grinned and threw his hands in the air, “ Yeah, and since it’s your first time here, we should totally eat at Ichiraku ramen! It’s the best food in the world!”, you smiled as all three of you started walking.
You and Naruto chatted along the way. It was mostly Naruto talking, and you listening, it was even better than you had imagined, talking with Naruto. He brought warmth and laughter into your conversation without even trying. He was energetic and had lots to talk about, so it never went quiet. He also had lots of questions to ask. It didn’t bother you, and you answered them as best as you could, just like with Iruka.
You and your little group had been walking for a while now, and you had started to notice.
You turned to iruka as you walked, “hey iruka sensei?”, you slowed down to a stop as you rested your hand softly on your hip, “ Are we close to my apartment yet?”, Naruto stopped walking and stood beside you and nodded in agreement.
“yeah! I’m starving!”
You looked at Naruto and nodded, “ Mm, hmm, me too.”, you stomach felt like it was gonna eat itself at any point now. You really wanted to eat.
He smiled at you both, but his smile wore something that spelled ‘mischief’ and ‘I know something you don’t’. You watch him walk by suspiciously. He stopped once he was beside you and Naruto and hurriedly turned you both around. He seemed almost excited when he lifted his finger to point at a building in the distance. You followed his finger, and your eyes set on an oblong shape building. The orange wooden roof looked rickety with pipes running along all the edges. You put your hand above your brows to block the sun. You hummed as you looked at it. It wasn’t too bad, I guess. You turned back to Iruka, ready to say something to him about your new apartment cause if he thought that was excited, you couldn’t imagine his reaction when he saw the buildings in the cities back home. But when you went to speak the look on Narutos face completely caught you by surprise. He looked completely shocked, his eyebrow so raised they were practically touching his hair line and his eyes as big as saucers and jaw basically touching the floor. His face made you snicker as you pursed your lips, trying not to laugh, “ What are you making that face for?”, you exclaimed, “ is something wrong with the building?”
You smiled as you watched him stumble. He looked so funny and dare you say cute.
“ No…nothings wrong, it's just….”
He turned away from you and giggled into his hand. You stared at him weirdly, what could possibly be wrong with the building. You turned to Iruka looking for an answer. He just smiled deviously at you and shrugged. There was lots of help he was. You turned back to Naruto, who was now grinning at you from ear to ear. You couldn’t help but smile back. This was turning into quite the funny situation.
“Its just…”, you waved your hand, encouraging him to continue.
“Its just…..THATS ALSO WHERE I LIVE!”
You were completely taken aback as he yelled this, you looked at the apartment, back at him, then back at the apartment. Of course! how couldn’t you have seen it! It looked just like his apartment, that bright orange roof, that railing on the edge of the building, everything about it was just like his apartment in the show! Now, it was your turn to make a shocked expression.
“actually!”, you proclaimed, you couldn’t believe it, you live in the same apartment as Naruto, what kind of dumb luck did you have to live next to one of the strongest upcoming shinobi. With the way things were going, maybe you wouldn’t be able to have a relaxing life here. At least Naruto seemed happy, and so did Iruka as he smirked in success. Of course he knew, just by seeing your address, he probably knew. Cheeky.
“Yeah! So that means we’re neighbors!”, he pumped his fist in the air, his excitement made you even more excited as you started hopping from foot to foot wanting to run to the apartment to see where your room was and how close it could be to his.
You beckoned him with your hand, not being able to wait any longer, “ cmon, then let’s go!”
Naruto cheered before grabbing your beckoning hand to pull towards the apartment. You hadn’t expected him to grab your hand and yelped as you almost tripped when he pulled you along. Laughter bubbled in your throat as you ran with Naruto, Iruka laughed as he watched you both. You both seemed like you would become good friends.
“CMON SENSEI GET OVER HERE!”, Naruto yelled after iruka as you both got further from him and closer to the apartment.
He laughed as he started running towards you guys, “ coming!”
