It was early in the morning, and Miyachi Sumire was already busy in the kitchen, preparing breakfast for herself and her girlfriend, Konishi Nanami, who was still asleep. The smell of grilled fish and miso soup filled the air as she carefully plated everything.
“Ohayou…”
A sleepy voice broke the silence. Konishi walked out of the bedroom, still yawning and covering her mouth with one hand.
“Ohayou, Koni! Breakfast is almost done. Just wait a bit~” Miyachi said in a cheerful tone.
Konishi, who was still half-asleep, slowly walked over and stood behind Miyachi. She leaned forward slightly, looking at the food being prepared, and quietly mumbled “Smells good…”
Usually, at work or during public appearances, Konishi always acted cold and distant toward Miyachi. But when it was just the two of them alone, she was surprisingly sweet and soft. Not that Miyachi minded, she LOVED it, actually. However, being treated like this so suddenly by her tsundere girlfriend always made her flustered.
Once the food was ready, Konishi helped set the table, then the two sat down for breakfast together.
“How is it?” Miyachi asked.
“Tastes really good. How do you always make it so delicious?” Konishi said, genuinely impressed.
“Hehe, I added a secret ingredient this time!” Miyachi said with a mischievous smile.
Konishi raised an eyebrow, curious. “Eh? What is it?”
“It’s my love for Koni~”
Konishi instantly felt her face heating up. It was just something Miyachi would usually say, but since it was still early in the morning, being flirted with like this caught her off guard. It felt extra embarrassing. Without knowing how to reply, Konishi quickly stared down at her food, trying to hide her blush. “T-thank you…” she whispered.
On the other hand, even Miyachi, who always loved teasing Konishi, couldn’t help but feel her own cheeks grow warm at Konishi’s reaction. They sat in a moment of awkward but sweet silence, both silently scolding their hearts for racing so fast over something so simple.
“Thank you for the food!”
After they finished eating, Konishi got up to prepare for her day. She had a magazine photoshoot later, so she needed to leave soon. Meanwhile, Miyachi stayed behind to clean up the table and wash the dishes.
As Konishi stood by the door, Miyachi suddenly called out, “Koni, you forgot something!”
Konishi froze, quickly double-checking her bag with a confused look. “Eh? What is it? Did I forget my phone? My wallet?” She was rummaging through her bag without realizing that Miyachi was already standing right in front of her.
“A goodbye kiss,” Miyachi grinned mischievously, leaning forward with her eyes closed.
Konishi’s brain malfunctioned for a second. Even though they had been dating for a while, the furthest they had ever gone was holding hands. She hesitated for a moment, her heart pounding like crazy. But seeing how patiently Miyachi was waiting, she finally gathered all the courage she had and placed a soft kiss on her girlfriend’s forehead.
“T-there! S-see you later!” Without waiting for a reply, she quickly turned and bolted out the door, leaving Miyachi standing there dumbfounded.
Miyachi touched the spot on her forehead where the kiss had just landed. She totally didn’t expect Konishi to actually go through with it, but now she was definitely glad she’d asked.
Of course, Miyachi hadn’t missed the detail of Konishi’s ears turning quite red as she left. “She’s so cute,” Miyachi murmured to herself. “Guess I’ll have to do this more often.”
“…And that’s how Koni started giving me goodbye kisses every morning,”
“Naruhodo…”
“Don’t just naruhodo me! If you keep acting indifferent like that, Nao-san won’t even let you hold her hand, Kanemura-san,”
Kanemura yawned, barely awake. Her phone had been rampaging with notifications from her junior Miyachi, flexing about the morning kiss story with her girlfriend. She glanced at the time and let out a sigh, her hands sending a quick reply “Yeah, yeah. I’m glad you had fun.”
Next to her, the person lying in bed stirred slightly.
“Sorry, Nao, did I wake you up?” Kanemura asked softly, her eyes shifting from her phone to the figure whose arms were loosely wrapped around her waist.
The blanket was draped loosely over Kosaka’s bare skin, which was covered with red marks Kanemura had left on her from the night before.
“No… Who’s that?” Kosaka asked, turning her head to Kanemura’s phone, her eyes still heavy with sleep
“It’s Sumire-chan,”
“Hmm? What happened?” Kosaka’s voice was soft and still drowsy.
“Nothing important though. Young people are so arrogant these days.” Kanemura muttered, shaking her head.
Kosaka raised an eyebrow slightly, her expression confused, but she didn’t ask further. Instead, she snuggled closer into Kanemura’s arms, her soft skin brushing against her girlfriend’s.
“It’s still early. You can sleep a bit more,” Kanemura smiled, leaning down to place a faint kiss onto the sleepy girl’s lips.
Kosaka hummed in agreement “Mmm… okay…” as she buried her face into Kanemura’s chest and quickly drifted back to sleep.
Kanemura glanced down at the girl curled up against her, gently brushing a strand of messy hair out of her face. Before wrapping her arms around Kosaka and closing her eyes again, a smug grin curved on Kanemura's lips.
Do you think I still even need to hold hands now, Sumire-chan?
