. . .
Rustling around in bed a few times out of discomfort, Elphaba eventually woke up. She would take a breath or so, and just.. sit. She looked around at her dorm in the dark, noting the familiar surroundings.. and the familiarity was comforting to her currently achy soul.
—“Elphie? What’s the matter, my dear?”
Asked Galinda, who had been awake early fixing up her hair. She looked over at Elphaba, a curious and gentle look on the woman’s face.
—“I.. just had a bad dream.”
Elphaba replied simply. Galinda let out a “hmm..”
—“Well. If it distressed you that much, it must have been very unpleasant. You can talk to me, I promise..”
Galinda urged gently, wanting to know what all her fuss was about. She put down her curler and flicked the button to turn it off, walking and sitting beside Elphaba on her bed. Elphaba opened her mouth to protest.
—“Galinda—“
—“Elphaba. Just tell me.. you’re bothered. It’ll feel better to get it off your chest. You told me so.”
Galinda was persistent. And so Elphaba decided to just say it. Sighing, she began to speak.
—“I just had a dream where I was melted. You know how it is, my water allergy.. nobody did anything about it, simply stared.”
Galinda looked at her as she spoke, nodding at every word. She was trying to be this wise and kind figure, and it was a bit funny.. but also a little appreciated.
—“Elphie.. that’s awful.”
Galinda said sympathetically, leaning her cheek into Elphaba’s for a moment. Then, she’d stand up, and look around.
—“How about we do something to take your mind off of it, eh? Eh?? Sound fun?? Oh! What if we dress up! I’m sure I’ve got many, super cute outfits that fit you!!”
Her eyes would light up with pure excitement that Elphaba just couldn’t help but smile at.
..—“While your offer is nice, dear, I think that would be more enjoyable for you than me.”
Elphaba said with a bit of a chuckle. Galinda would sigh, tapping her foot against the floor.
—“You’re so hard to come up with fun activities for, Elphie!”
She complained.
—“Well, I just have different interests than you. But.. if you’d like, I suppose you can do my hair.”
Elphaba would offer, being met with a very excited seeming Galinda, who sat back down beside her almost immediately.
—“Yes! Perfect idea, Elphie.”
The blonde would smile, her voice a soft hum. She’d look for a moment.. thinking of all the perfect hairstyle options.
—“It gives us both something to do. I’m going to read a bit, and you can do my hair.”
Elphaba explained, pulling a book she hadn’t finished from beneath her pillow case, which she kept next to the green bottle from her mother. Galinda began to braid Elphaba’s hair.. she personally found the style very attractive on her.
After what felt like a long while, Galinda was done. She had many friends of many kinds, so had mastered the skill to do hair of many different textures, to which Elphaba was grateful for.
She slid a bookmark into the page she was reading and shut it, putting it on the nightstand of her bed. Galinda would grab one of her many many handheld mirrors that had simply fallen to the floor. She dusted it off, and she would hold it out for Elphaba to get a good look at herself.
—“You look beautiful.”
Galinda smiled at her. Elphaba smiled as well.. she honestly thought Galinda would mess it up.. but she was glad she didn’t.
—“Thank you, Galinda,”
