Cuddles in Bed
The two had spent the next hour or so just talking. Most of it was concerning the plan, the rest was just random tidbits from Caitlyn.
“You should stay here tonight,” Caitlyn said gently, her voice quieter now. “It’s late, and you don’t look like you’re in the best shape after… all that.”
Vi raised an eyebrow, a hint of her usual smirk tugging at the corner of her lips despite her exhaustion. “You worried about me, Cupcake?”
Caitlyn crossed her arms, her stern expression faltering for just a moment as a faint blush crept into her cheeks. “I’m worried you’ll stumble into the wrong alley and pick a fight you can’t win.”
Vi chuckled softly, shaking her head. “You wound me. There’s no fight I can’t win.” She ran a hand through her hair, but even as she said that she knew that staying sounded better than she wanted to admit. She was exhausted, her body aching in ways she wasn’t used to admitting out loud. Plus where else would she go? Sevika’s?
Caitlyn leaned in closer, her hand lightly brushing a strand of hair out of Vi’s face. “Come on,” she murmured. “It’s safer here, and my bed’s big enough for both of us.”
Vi hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Alright, fine,” she said, her voice tinged with mock reluctance. “But if your mom bursts in with a gun again, I’m out.”
Caitlyn rolled her eyes, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Fair enough.”
Caitlyn looked like she was going to say something but she didn’t instead she glanced at Vi’s clothes and hair. Her nose crinkled slightly, though she tried to hide it. “Actually,” she began, her tone casual but firm, “why don’t you take a shower first? You look like you’ve been through… a lot tonight, and I don’t want you tracking mud or whatever else into my bed.”
Vi raised an eyebrow, her smirk returning. “It sounds like you just want me naked.”
Caitlyn’s face flushed slightly, but she didn’t falter. “Just take the shower, Vi,” she said, her tone exasperated as she shooed Vi towards the bathroom.
Vi chuckled, shrugging as she headed toward the en suite bathroom Caitlyn had gestured to. She stopped at the door, looking over her shoulder with a teasing grin. “You know, you could always join me. Save water and all that.”
Caitlyn blinked, caught off guard. “What?” she asked.
Vi leaned against the doorframe, crossing her arms. “Come on, Cupcake, it’ll be fun.”
“Go take your shower, Violet.” Caitlyn interrupted quickly, her face red as she turned her back and busied herself with finding some clothes Vi could borrow.
Vi laughed softly, shaking her head as she stepped into the bathroom. “Woah there, no need for my full government name!” She called over her shoulder, “A no would have been enough.” She hadn’t expected Caitlyn to agree, but a small part of her had been genuine with the offer.
The bathroom was as grand as the rest of the house, with pristine marble tiles, a massive shower with frosted glass doors, and an array of expensive-looking toiletries lining the counter. Vi stripped off her clothes, tossed them into a corner, and stepped under the hot spray of water.
The heat was soothing against her aching muscles, the steam curling around her like a warm embrace. She closed her eyes, letting the water wash away the grime, sweat, and the faint but persistent smell of smoke and leather that clung to her from her encounter with Sevika.
That was why Caitlyn wanted her to shower.
Her thoughts wandered as she scrubbed herself clean, lingering on Caitlyn’s flushed face and the way her voice softened when she was concerned.
When she finally emerged from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her. She found Caitlyn sitting on the edge of the bed, flipping through a book. She glanced up, her gaze softening as she took in Vi’s refreshed appearance.
“Feel better?” Caitlyn asked, her voice lighter now.
“Like a new woman,” Vi replied with a grin, running a hand through her damp hair. She grabbed the clothes Caitlyn had left for her earlier, slipping them on before flopping onto the bed with a contented sigh.
Caitlyn put the book aside, and turned the lights off, before climbing into bed beside her. “You smell better,” she teased, though her tone was affectionate.
Vi smirked, nudging Caitlyn gently with her elbow. “Glad I meet your standards, Cupcake.”
They settled under the covers, the tension between them gradually melting away. Caitlyn shifted closer, her hand resting lightly on Vi’s arm as she turned to face her.
Caitlyn just stared at Vi, her thumb brushing absently over Vi’s arm. The warmth of her touch was nice, but Vi felt…distracted.
They lay like that for a while before Caitlyn shifted again, her hand trailing down to rest against Vi’s side. The touch was light, hesitant, but it sent a shiver down Vi’s spine.
“Cait,” Vi began, her voice low.
“Shh,” Caitlyn whispered, leaning in closer. Her hand moved with more confidence now, sliding over Vi’s hip and lingering there. “It’s alright.”
Vi’s breath hitched, her heart pounding as Caitlyn’s touch grew bolder. The warmth of her hand against her skin was electric, her presence both soothing and intoxicating.
For a moment, Vi considered pulling away, but the softness in Caitlyn’s eyes and the genuine care in her touch kept her rooted in place.
“Alright,” Vi murmured, her voice barely audible. “But don’t get too handsy, Cupcake.”
Caitlyn chuckled softly, before she moved closer to Vi, pulling the other woman into her arms.
“No promises.” Caitlyn softly murmured. She was planning on getting handsy, but that was until she realized Vi was quickly falling asleep.
So with a small huff, Caitlyn just made herself comfortable and soon she too was being lulled to sleep.
