I never knew riling him up was this much fun

Ibiki sought refuge in his own office. The coffee wasn’t great (it sucks), the company wasn’t great (Anko talks to much, she is out of the office for the moment so it helps a bit) and the work wasn’t great (there wasn’t any, he all did it and he was actually ready to twiddle with his thumbs), but there was no ambush from a certain Copy nin and that was a big plus.

Hatake-san was right in one thing. Ibiki did know a lot of things about other Shinobi. Like, how Anko secretly likes Gai. And how many secret bottles there were stashed in the mission room office, just for the Hokage alone. And what about Genma, whose hobby is knitting? The man was almost done with a soft dog plush for his boyfriend.

Ibiki knows that sort of things, like a mother knows a lot of things about her children. It’s not bad to know those things. It’s not wrong either. It’s just how it is. And he is not going to change it.

The thing is, now that there is some new information added to his long list of information, namely, Hatake-san has a crush on Umino-san, what is he going to do about that? Like, he knows Anko has a crush on Gai, but he never got the two of them together.

Should he do that? Should he meddle in that kind of stuff? He isn’t a match maker. He shudders at the thought, but one glance around in his office reveals that there is still no other work waiting for him.

He rolls his eyes. He could try. Right? He could try and find out if Gai has a thing for Anko. And if that works out, he could try to meddle with Hatake-san and Umino-san.

He is out of his office within seconds, and onto the road towards the training ground. The green clothed man isn’t hard to find. He is training.

Ibiki stops in his tracks. For the man is training with Hatake-san.

Ibiki closes his eyes, sighs, and inwardly counts to ten. Just his luck. He only wanted to find Gai. Not Hatake-san. He wanted to avoid Hatake-san. Preferably till he knew he could set Anko and Gai up on a date of some sort.

“Morino-sama!”

Gai stops moving. Well, he stops a punch that was meant to go towards Hatake-san’s face. Instead, he directs his hand into a wave, meant for Ibiki.

Ibiki raises an eyebrow. “There is no need for sama, Gai-san,” he says. He coughs.

“Then call me Gai.” The taijutsu master leaves his sparring partner alone and walks towards Ibiki. “If I can call you Ibiki then?”

Ibiki shrugs. “It’s fine.” He looks at the training field. Hatake-san looks like he wants to shoot daggers at Ibiki, from his eye at least.

“Is there something you want to discuss with me?” Gai asks.

“Actually, yes. About Anko.” Ibiki narrows his eyes at Gai and stares intensely.

Gai widens his own set of eyes. He turns white. Then red. Then an even darker shade of red. “So you know?” he asks in a whisper.

Ibiki keeps on staring. “Tell me,” he says, adding a nod for good measure.

Gai swallows and turns his gaze to his feet. “I just, you know, like, like, her. I sometimes look at her. Well, whenever she walks by the training grounds. I mean, every time she walks by. She walks by a lot, by the way. I bet she must run a lot of errands for you.” One of his hands come up and scratches his head. “I just look and think about, you know, what could be. And, I fantasize. About, a date.” He shrinks into himself, it seems. Which means a lot. He is a big man.

Ibiki feels himself melting on the inside. It’s just so cute. “You have to ask her on a date. I do send her on a lot of errands and she deserves some time off.” He clears his throat. “It would be best if you be quick about it. Else she runs herself ragged. Can’t have that.”

“But, what if she doesn’t want to go?” Gai trembles.

Ibiki takes a deep breath, blinks twice and places a hand on Gai’s shoulder. “Gai, do you know who I am?” he asks.

Gai nods. Slowly. He stops, blinks himself before widening his eyes. “You know. You know everything there is to know,” he says. His mouth widens in the biggest smile humanly possible. “I’ll do what you say. Yes sir. Right away.”

Before Ibiki can blink, the green clothed man is already running.

“You are cheating.” Hatake-san appears next to Ibiki.

Ibiki doesn’t jump. Or twitch. Nope. He doesn’t even flinch. “Cheating?” he asks.

“You are taking away one of my allies.” The Copy nin is glaring, once again.

“You ally is going on a date with my ally.” Ibiki turns to Hatake-san and smirks. “What does that tell you?” He raises an eyebrow.

Hatake-san seems to think about it. He snorts. “You are still not winning.” He turns his heel and walks away.
